But, Maggie's sister testified that Maggie was adamant that Paul was not the guilty driver in the boat crash. In fact, Maggie was prepared to be ostracized by her community rather than admit that her drunk son was a reckless murderer.

If Maggie believed that Paul was not the driver, then she was not looking for him to settle the boat crash lawsuits. She was dug in. Her family was not responsible.

As it turns out, the husband, Alex, was first to arrive at the housekeeper's "slip and fall" and EMS arrived later ... even though Alex was phoned 30 minutes after EMS was called.

It's quite something to try to understand Alex and the influence he had over his wife.

It sounds to me like Maggie wanted to escape.

She certainly did -- "adamant" is a direct quote from her testimony when being examined by JG on 2/14/23:

But Proctor said that as time went on, there were some nagging doubts that entered her mind, especially Alex Murdaugh's focus on Paul Murdaugh's role in a 2019 boat crash where a teenager died. Investigators said Paul Murdaugh was driving the boat and charged him with boating under the influence.

“He said that his number one goal was clearing Paul's name,” Proctor said. “And I thought that was so strange because my number one goal was to find out who killed my sister and Paul.”

A jailhouse recording of convicted double murderer Alex Murdaugh speaking with one of his defense attorneys was released over the weekend – a recording that appears to have been made sometime during Murdaugh’s recent Colleton County, S.C., trial in the shooting deaths of his wife and son.

Hidden True Crime, in a February open records request, asked for “any and all jail phone calls made, placed by” Richard Alexander Murdaugh while in the custody of the sheriff’s office, the Colleton County Jail, or the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, their South Carolina state Freedom of Information Act request says.

Typically, conversations between attorneys and their clients are protected by the attorney-client privilege – which protects and is determined by the client; often a client must raise the privilege or have their attorney raise it on their behalf.

Murdaugh’s attorney on the call, for his part, confirmed he was the other person and expressed outrage over the turn of events.

IMO, this call was intentionally shared on TikTok by the YT couple/creators because they know that authorities can request YT remove the content from their platform and YT will comply whereas TikTok seems to be unregulated and not as likely to take immediate action.

But even so, there's nothing damning or revelatory in any way in the call, it's harmless. They both know the calls are recorded or monitored so he's not going to confess on the phone call or anything like that.

At least this call has brought a couple of questions to my mind along with an observation about the trial.
Question: can an inmate make calls anytime they want? <snipped by me>
Question: are phone calls made from their cell or do they have to go to a central location to use the phone?
Question: if it's after "lights out" when they want to make a call, does the inmate have to get a guard to escort them to the phone?
Observation: AM must have been a real problem to DH and JG, calling them whenever he pleased and had an idea about something they did or didn't do. <snipped by me> This is just 1 phone call. Imagine how many more they were forced to take while they were trying to decompress from the courtroom and prepare for the next day and contact their own families and eat and shower and sleep. I never really thought about AM plaguing them after hours with his "demandingness" . I have a little more sympathy for JG and DH now and I wonder if they knew it would be this taxing on them.
