Ahead of Tuesday's sentencing, Fleming’s lawyer Deborah Barbier submitted 62 character letters written by friends, family and residents of the nearby town of Beaufort on his behalf.

Members of Satterfield’s family addressed the court about their mother’s death and Fleming’s role in the scheme.

Ginger Hadwin, Satterfield’s sister, addressed Fleming directly, saying that “as a Christian I forgive you, but I will never forget.”

Pamela Pinckney, a woman who was defrauded twice in a scheme allegedly involving Murdaugh and Fleming, once after a car wreck and later after her son died, also addressed the court.

“I want to look at you and let you know that I forgive you," Pinckney said.

Her lawyer, Justin Bamberg, reminded the court that Fleming’s actions to defraud victims took place over a number of years. The judge responded that “Alex was the train conductor, but people joined the crew and were rewarded for it.”

Jerry Rivers pleaded guilty to a slew of money laundering, fraud and drug charges in front of Judge Clifton Newman today.

State prosecutor Johnny James says Rivers’ drug deals went down during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.

That’s when the Walterboro native sold a large quantity of pills to Eddie Smith who in turn gave it to his “cousin” Murdaugh.

The State says Rivers profited as much as $40 dollars for every pill he sold to Smith, in all collecting more than 16 checks from Smith totaling $88 thousand dollars

The last check came in on Sept 3, 2021, just one day before the alleged botched suicide plot on the side of the road with Smith and Murdaugh.

In addition, Rivers told Judge Newman he became addicted to the oxy pills while dealing with large quantities for Murdaugh’s addiction.

Newman’s compassion was on full display today. He read a letter written by Rivers’ aunt who begged for mercy for her wayward nephew. During the letter, Rivers started to cry.

Newman agreed to modify Rivers’ bond and release him to a drug rehabilitation program while he awaited sentencing.

Rivers faces 5 to 20 years for his crimes, which included fraudulent Covid-19 unemployment payments and other bogus loans investigators discovered while looking into Rivers’ link to Murdaugh.

Rivers’ sentencing will take place in Colleton County at a later date.

Wow -- this somewhat surprises me but only because I didn't want to believe there was any truth to AM truly being addicted to oxy pills. I should have read earlier that oxy causes a slowdown of metabolism leading to weight gain and even obesity. That seems to fit AM alright.

I guess DH will be explaining how in his world it’s, not just his job, but an honor, to defend manipulative, narcissistic, family annihilator double murderers who steal money from quadriplegics and children.
I hope he also talks about what it feels like to lose every motion put forth in a trial and to lose all respect and esteem built over years.
Also, how telling lies, gross exaggeration, and twisting information in publicly filed motions prior to trial to attempt to manipulate the jury pool aids our justice system.
Sit down DH. Just go away.
