Alex Murdaugh’s lawyers said Friday they may call lead Murdaugh prosecutor Creighton Waters and Aubrey Hill, the daughter of Colleton County clerk of court Becky Hill, as potential witnesses during an upcoming hearing on allegations that Becky Hill tampered with the jury during Murdaugh’s double-murder trial last year.

Murdaugh’s attorneys made their plans known in a brief filed Friday.

The brief is a supplement to one defense attorneys filed earlier in the week.

The State Attorney General’s office declined to make a statement, saying, “As is our policy, we will make our comments in court and court filings.”

Friday’s supplement also says defense attorneys might want to call Carly Jewell, a paralegal with the Attorney General’s Office who worked with the team who prosecuted Murdaugh, David Owen, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agent who led the investigation into the murders of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh, and Rachel Joseph, another SLED agent.

OT: For some four years, I sat under the pulpit of a rector, reared in Natchez, Mississippi, who spoke with that same lovely, purposeful, melting-butter drawl. I never missed a word of his sermons or skipped church — it was such a delight to hear his every wise and melodic utterance. Having said that, he also spent a number of years in Charleston, which may have fine tuned his dialect for the Lowcountry ear. But up Nor-eth his voice was music!

And yes, if CN doesn’t want to run off with me, JM is my second choice!

Just last week, Murdaugh was granted a status conference hearing to set the parameters for a three-day hearing that is set to take place next week. It’s during that hearing Judge Toal will decide whether Murdaugh will get a new murder trial.

Judge Toal is set to question all 12 jurors who rendered the verdict, and Hill, to determine if there was any jury tampering and if it could have impacted the outcome.

My newest juror client and I are grateful for Justice Toal, the prosecution and the defense for all of us coordinating so that that juror can testify Friday morning because of their unavailability next week to testify at the Murdaugh hearing. It’s really nice when all the parties can work together so that these jurors can be inconvenienced as little as possible. This rodeo will get started on Friday of this week. Very appreciative of Justice Toal making herself available as well as the courthouse staff. EB

Ohhhhh the foreperson is the one being questioned today!! We can assume that if she’s hired Eric Bland she won’t be much help to defense. I’m very curious to hear what all those alleged long convos were about between her and Becky Hill. JMO
