SC - Paul Murdaugh & mom Margaret Found Shot To Death - Alex Murdaugh Accused - Islandton *Guilty* #44

I think the only way to make this right at this point is to suck it up and do it over as all of this may hang a cloud on the verdict as it is. I don’t like it but I don’t think he has a chance of beating the case. It just needs to be done.
Unfortunately, I lean toward AM getting a new trial. Good grief... but fair is fair. Same verdict outcome, though. jmo

That’s why we all worked so hard on getting Alex Murdaugh convicted on the state and federal level for all of the financial crimes he committed. He now has a total of 67 years in state and federal prison so regardless what happens with the murder case, he will never get a free breath of air. He will die in prison as a disgraced and miserable man. EB

I don't see how the Becky Hill charges affect the murder case, since none of them about jury tampering. The Colleton ones all about her personal misuse of her office, and the Richland perjury one was not about the jurors. I don't expect it to impact the trial. jmo

Nothing will change the fact that Alex murdered his wife and son. Becky Hill needs to be punished for her wrongdoings, just like Alex. The jury all said nothing she said changed their opinions. A lot needs to change in SC system.

If, as FITS News says, this involves BH revealing sealed exhibits to the press I doubt very seriously it will affect Judge Toal’s ruling.
That being said, BH is an a moron. She apparently was good at her actual job, but she so wanted to be in the spotlight that she didn’t care that she could possibly jeopardize the trial as she jostled to get in the spotlight. Very Shameful. Throw the book at her.
Another one who wanted her 15 min of fame...

In a statement to Court TV, Murdaugh’s attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, said: “We are aware of the charges filed against Becky Hill and while these developments are serious, they are not surprising. We have long raised our concerns about her conduct during and after the trial and this arrest further underscores the need to protect the integrity of the judicial process. Every defendant is entitled to a fair and impartial trial and we look forward to Alex Murdaugh finally getting that fair treatment.”
Well ya know, Dick and Jim, since the get go you emphatically said Elec didn’t do this. In fact several times you said you were investigating other leads and you knew who murdered Maggie and Paul.

Over the last four years (on June 7), why haven’t you brought anyone else to LE? What happened to the “leads” you were investigating?

Elec was found guilty and there have been no other suspects. Maybe give it up!

I do hope y’all are correct that Becky’s charges don’t support another trial for AM.

For one, I don’t want to waste the resources but if AM is going to be retried — the sooner the better before evidence gets “lost” and witnesses forget, disappear, or die. Aggravating thing is defense will play it with advantages of knowing CW’s strategy and how people reacted to Elec’s blubbering. OMO.

I think the only way I could tolerate watching again is if they “Bring in THE Judge,” (everyone’s favorite Judge Newman). But know that won’t happen.

I somehow doubt that AM gets on the stand again given the disaster it was before. I dread the costs involved as well but I can’t help but to think it needs to be done.

Dick mentions this in his interview, but because he thinks the case is going to be retried, he can’t reveal who really killed Maggie and Paul.

I'm thankful for the financial charges keeping him locked up, but AM should be held legally accountable for murdering his own son and wife in cold blood. 🤬

In AM's twisted mind, he can accept the financial misdeeds, but never accepted any wrongdoing in the deaths of Paul and Maggie.

I don’t see how these charges against BH would get AM a new trial either as they do not address her interactions with the jurors and don’t understand DH’s optimism of that happening.

But… I also don’t understand why there are no charges about jury tampering here. I still go back & forth in my head about whether I believe all she was accused of saying by the defense team; but I think her meeting with egg lady alone was jury tampering. Early on I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and being a little fish in a small pond and being overwhelmed with all the media attention and the magnitude of the Murdaugh trial and tried to convince myself that her actions did not warrant a new trial for AM. But in hind sight, I think the judge should have declared a mistrial the minute it came to light that she had a conversation about the case with a juror during the trial. I’m not saying that juror should not have been dismissed - that’s another issue - but BH was wrong to confront the juror and should have taken it to the judge if she thought the juror had done something wrong after she saw whatever she saw or thinks she saw on FB or other social media. It isn’t about whether AM deserves a new trial and I have no doubt that the state proved their case. What BH did as an agent of the court was out of line and in my opinion it was serious enough that a mistrial should have been declared before the jury even reached a verdict.

However since neither Judge Newman nor Judge Toal saw it that way and I don’t see how these charges against BH would give a higher court a reason to overturn their decisions.
