Found Safe SC - Three children, ages 2-4, Smoaks, 9 March 2016

It sounded to me, from the articles posted, like the grandmother lives across the road. Her brother is the supposed legal guardian but the mother of the girls lives with him?

Is the mother of the girls, the daughter of the grandmother? Because then the legal guardian would be her uncle.

When did the school bus drop them off? He noticed them missing at 6pm, but that doesn't mean they actually went missing at 6.

Seriously, folks, does anyone here believe that two toddlers and one little preschooler go to school, boarding the bus by themselves? I still cannot wrap my brain around this statement. :waitasec:

I'm leaning towards someone taking them, and I also think the children knew them. And since it's such a rural area, you would have thought someone would have seen a vehicle, don't you think? I sure hope these babies are found quickly and are ok.

There are centers and subsidies that provide transportation to and from the center. Aides on the bus belt children into car seats and monitor safety. I know this happens in my neck of the woods so I assume that they may have had this subsidy.

Here is a link to a service in Boston. http://childcarechoicesofboston.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Transportation-Request-Form-CCCB.pdf Also a resource sheet for military members moving to SC, at the bottom they talk about transportation requirements. http://download.militaryonesource.mil/12038/MOS/Articles/SouthCarolina_childcare.pdf

In rural areas where public transportation is minimal, it is a necessity for some families to have transportation for their children. Please note, the vehicle and travel situation may be better than a haphazard drop-off/pick-up that may involve an unreliable car or parent who has to patch together rides--- leaving a child care facility with late pickups and additional costs.

May be in Head Start. The little boy looks like he is wearing the Colleton County school district uniform in some of the pictures. (solid color polo style shirt and pants)

JMO Regarding the bus... In SC we have a program called either Smart Start or Head Start that is for underprivileged preschoolers. The "bus" is a small bus (van) equipped for toddlers with safety seats etc. It is possible that the 3 and 4 year old would have ridden this "bus" home. Not sure about the 2 year old. Homework may have been something like coloring a picture or copying a letter of the alphabet.

ETA: Sorry looks like we were posting at the same time. :)

I tried to find schools in Smoaks and came up nothing. Is it a regional school that they would attend.

And, again, what school would bus 2, 3, and 4 year olds?!?!

Have times changed?!?! I remember my daughter at 5 years old getting ready for kindergarten and having to board a bus, but not when she was 2, 3, or 4 and in day care of pre-k.

EDIT TO ADD: Ahh, Head Start. That would make sense, but again, the area is so rural, is there a Head Start nearby?

Locked in a closet!?!? Did they not scream for help?!?

Could be several more kids living there and those kids came home on the bus and did homework.

Yes, there are centers nearby. Some Headstarts also offer Kindergarten programs or pre and post programs on school days. It is also possible that they live in an area that has pre-school in the public school, which might be full or part time program. In some areas Kindergarten is still half day and not feasible for working families. The homework doesn't surprise me because many child care programs are having kids and families working on letter identification and number correspondence for readiness in school.

Colleton County Schools (their district) has a pre-k and K program. The kids could get bused to a CC center and be taken to and from school from the center. I used to work for a CC center that had before and after Head Start care. Kids came (and were bused at 6:45 am) and then came back to the center from the end of the school day until the center closed. Buses took some children home at 5:30.

Sooo glad they're safe, but this doesn't make much sense to me at the moment.
