"The circumstances lead me great cause to be concerned," the judge told the courtroom, and told officials to dig deeper into the investigation to make sure the kids will be safe if they return home. "Based on testimony today, that probable cause remains today."
That decision came after Colleton County Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Chapman said investigators believe that someone who knew three children abducted them and put them there.
"We are not pointing fingers at this time. We can not identify which family member was responsible for abduction," Chapman said. "There's obviously something more involved than them just wandering off."

Seems a pretty sensible decision till they find out what happened.
I'm having trouble understanding this case.
Who would have a motive to put the kids in a locked closet on the property? When did the kids get into that locked closet, and why did they not call out to searchers - or even the mom who was in the trailer calling for them?
"They are being questioned. They are being interviewed so we cannot go talk to the kids simply because they don't want us coaching the kids, saying it was somebody that it's not," Williams said.
The grandmother of the three missing children says deputies do not have enough evidence to determine whether family members may have tried to kidnap the children.
"Right about now we are at a standstill," said grandmother Tracey Valentine. "The oldest granddaughter -- she is basically beginning to talk some but not. I guess when they get back to the part of who, she gets scared and starts to cry."

Valentine said the family is happy the children are healthy and staying together in one foster home.
Legal jargon required that the four adults at the probable cause hearing be considered defendants. The parents of the young boy, who now live in Columbia, did not attend the hearing.
Chapman was quick to point out from the stand that the investigators did not believe that those at the hearing were involved. He suggested that the adults, like the children, were victims in the incident.
Someone betrayed you, Chapman told them.
Law enforcement officials, Chapman explained, were uncomfortable allowing the children to be returned to Bent Gate Lane for fear that whoever had taken the children would try again.
Because the adults were not considered suspects, Chapman added, the sheriffs office had no problem with the court allowing them to have visitation rights. But he said the law enforcement officers would be more comfortable if those visits were supervised.
The court hearing is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, April 6 in Walterboro. This case is the last one on the schedule for Wednesday mornings 9:30 a.m. hearings.
