However, if you watch the video, that third brake light in the window IS burned out/broken/not working.

The left, rear brake lamp is exposed when he brakes because the cover is missing. Exposed lamps are a violation of statute. It was a legit traffic safety stop by Officer Slager.

The condition of the rear lamps is very relevant. The dash cam proves the Officer had a legit, safety reason for pulling Scott over. He wasn't targeting Scott because of his race.

The inoperative brake light is a legitimate reason for Slager to pull over Scott. There is nothing that I've seen so far that shows race is a factor in this case. JMO.

I agree but isn't stopping Scott's family from insisting he was stopped because of racial profiling.

Newly released dashcam video shows the officer pulling Scott over as one of the brake lights on his Mercedes flashes yellow instead of red. On the video, Slager tells Scott 'the reason I stopped you is because your third brake light is out'.

But Scott's grief-stricken brother Anthony says there is more to the story.

'There can be no other reason but what you would call 'racial profiling' Anthony Scott told Daily Mail Online.

the real facts always manage to surface and will gain momentum now that the funeral is over and both the Governor and President have wisely stayed out of it.

Scott wasn't pulled over because a single brake light wasn't working, he was pulled over because none of the three red break lamps were working. The stop had absolutely nothing to do with race.

From what I've seen, Slagle was not in fear for his life at any time. Nor did he appear to be protecting someone else. No one's property was at risk of theft/damage/vandalism. Yet Slagel, a white LEO, fired his gun 8 times at the back of an unarmed black man. Scott's family probably sees it that way and I do not think that it is race baiting to question this.

I don`t know if this has been posted yet but a private investigator has taken all of the available video and synced it up with all of the police radio dispatch recordings. This video provides a fuller picture of what happened. For instance the last video image that we see of Scott shows police applying first aid gauze to his wounds. Right after the video cuts out we can hear an officer on his radio saying "applying chest compression's" What this tells us is without a doubt police DID in fact perform CPR on Scott and yet repeatedly it is being claimed in the media that police lied about performing CPR just because it wasn`t captured on the video recording.

The way I see this case is similar to yours. Officer Slager was not justified in shooting Walter Scott. Yes Slager is white and Scott is black.

At this point I don't see race as a motivating factor for either party's actions.

Slager was not arrested for the number of brake lights working or not working during a traffic stop.
He was not arrested for performing or not performing CPR.
He was arrested and charged with murder for using deadly force when it was not warranted.

What we don't know is if Slagle would have handled the situation the same way if the driver was a white man, an asian woman, or a teenage boy of mixed heritage. It's rather impossible to know how the man thinks but I'm guessing that he will be under a great deal of scrutiny in the days to come and perhaps I will feel better able to say whether or not there was a racial component to this murder. It seems unfair to label him as a racist because he's a white man. But it also seems unfair to not acknowledge the elephant in the room: Black man shot in the back for what appears to be no valid reason. Race is a question here, but it's no foregone conclusion that racism was at play.

Exactly. People seem to be making stuff up.
I am pretty sure if this police officer was shot with his own taser, he would have said so. But he didn't claim anything of the sort, because he isn't the one who was shot with a taser.

<modsnip> I don't think Scott was hit with taser probes. It appears the cartridge end of the taser was wrapped around Scott's foot.
