Deputies investigating after human remains found in York County

The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human remains were found Tuesday night.

The remains have been described as "so deteriorated [investigators] couldn’t even identify the gender of the remains."

The remains were found on Highway 557 near Ridge Road in Clover, South Carolina (York County) the night of August 13.

The story is developing. Little information is currently available.

Coincidentally, investigators in neighboring Chesterfield County recieved a tip in early August about possible human remains on a property along Highway 265. There was apparently a "scorched area" on the property. Cadaver dogs picked up a scent at the property, but ultimately remains were not discovered. ARTICLE (08/14/24).

Human Remains Found by Construction Workers Near South Carolina Middle School

The York County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. that construction workers had found skeletal remains while clearing the side of Ridge Road near Oak Ridge Middle School. The remains were found with bits of torn-up clothes, Faris said.

Initial estimates indicate the person died between one and two years ago.

The remains are being sent to a forensic anthropologist in Columbia, the Capital of South Carolina.
