I think Tulsans are used to evangelist scandals. Remember that one who had the college in Tulsa and it turned out he was sleeping with female and male students? Can't remember his name. Billy Bob or Billy Joe or something.
And then there was Jimmy Swaggart. I can't remember what he did...but I do remember him saying he SINNED.
The only big-name tv evangelist I know of who has never had any scandal attached to him is Billy Graham.
Sorry to disappoint you....The only big-name tv evangelist I know of who has never had any scandal attached to him is Billy Graham.
These hypocrites tick me off. People rant and rave against poor people getting any help , but these people get all kinds of tax breaks and most all of them live the "high" life just because they are called "religious".
They are no different than the Nigerian scammers or any other thieves who prey on the sick and elderly. They are phoney, baloney and God knows it. And they work real hard to get and keep people in office who will support them.
Oh, Cypros, I so agree!!!!! These evangelical TV type preachers are so like you describe. I don't trust one of them. Tammy Faye and Jim Baker, and now Haggard's homosexual scandal. I'm sure God wants them all to have a mansion and multi-Cadillacs or Mercedes. Soon, the one "most favored by God" will be driving a Rolls Royce. Then we'll find out that another one was told by God to have a chauffer drive his Rolls Royce. I just hate it that they can scam these old ladies. These "men of God" should all be in prison. There's no excuse for using their false religions to scam people. It is only a matter of time before the antics of these evangelical scam artists catch up with them. They are greedy power-hungry scammers and will steal the last cents of old ladies to live the high life. That "university" is their empire and they obviously think they can do whatever they want and nobody with rat on them because they surround themselves with devoted followers. It sounds like the wife has a little problem --can't keep her hands off the youthful male lambs. I wonder if hubby is too busy with his own little lambs to notice!
What gets me is Reverand Peter Popoff's miracle spring water, guaranteed to heal your ills and bring you cash money. He puts on a regular dog and pony show.
My mother wrote for the miracle water. It arrived just days after her death from cancer. The small packet of the miracle water was bone dry. Bah....
Come on, montana, you're among friends. Tell us what you REALLY think!
(Not sayin' I disagree, mind you.)
Sorry to hear about your mom, Countermoon.
Popoff said that wrong. It's guaranteed to bring him cash.
Okay, now I just have to tell this one.
My Dad and his buddies from the military attended one of these 'healing' events one evening when we lived out near Tulsa. The crazy one of the three--not my Dad--says "quick, grab my arms and take me down there". They didn't know if he was having some sort of religion fit or what. So as they are going down there, he is violently jerking is head to the left while they almost carry/drag him down there. They are looking at each other like "what is he doing". So the guy gets down there and tells Roberts what is wrong with him, uncontrollable muscle spasms. So Roberts does his thing and tells him he is healed. The guy stands up nice and straight and starts rolling his head around and rubbing his neck....full range of motion. As he turned around to leave, he started doing the exaggerate violent head jerking--this time to the right. The audience laughed hysterically.
My Dad worked for IBM years ago and they had some machines go bad at Roberts headquarters and he was terrified that he was going to meet him in the hall and be remembered.
As for this scandal, yikes. No good.
