School Bus Driver Caught Texting

  • #21
Well this is coincidental timing- I started this thread and the yesterday was nearly hit head on for the second time in a month while parked near my son's school waiting to pick him up. I park on a side street and these morons come tearing down the street not looking where they are going and I have to lay on my horn until they swerve aside before hitting me. Both times the drivers appeared to have been texting. The driver yesterday was a 40-something apparent mom on her way to school, I hope her kid and mine aren't friends because I yelled some raw stuff at her when she came to a stop alongside me-she actually had the gall to be angry at me.
I just don't know where or when this is all going to end. People know better- they just think they can handle it- their lives are soooo busy and all that. I am getting tired of running across people who try to kill me every day with their stupidity.

Sounds like you need to borrow my sign! :giggle:

Here in Texas (where I live anyway) it is illegal to use a phone in any way near schools. There are signs posted, but I still see people everyday using them. It is ridiculous. :banghead:

Stupid people won't stop until it is too late.

What is the deal with people needing a law to tell them you can't read phones, books, newspapers, whatever other mess while driving. I thought it was pretty clear that driving should occupy all of your attention.
Hey now, until I see a law on the books I will continue to milk my goat, Eddie, while I am driving. And don't think I'm going to put up my hibachi grill, sometimes when you're careening down the highway, doing 70 in a 2000+ pound car, you just want a good old-fashioned barbecue.

:floorlaugh: Thank you for making my morning! LOL.

I come from a small town and in the short span of four weeks we had THREE one-car accidents caused by texting and driving, all of which resulted in the death of the driver. :( It was absolutely heart breaking.

Another thing that's really (sadly) popular right now is "vining" while driving. For those who don't know, "Vine" is an app for your smart phone that allows users to upload 6 second videos. Many of these videos are wonderfully creative 6 second clips of someone's average day or funny situations. But a majority of them are very clearly filmed while driving using the front-facing camera of their phone to record the person as they rant off about something that's on their mind. What's even WORSE is that many of these clips where the user is driving and filming themselves are some of the most popular clips on the app- reaching over 100,000 shares on other social media platforms. It blows my mind... how can so many people support something so dangerous?!

The only thing anyone should be doing while driving is DRIVING. Especially a bus driver! You would think someone whose job relies on their ability to drive would know that, regardless of whether it is illegal for them to do so or not!

RSBM

Especially someone whose job relies on their ability to get children safely from point A to point B!

Being stopped at a red light is not an excuse to text, either. Just because the texter is stopped... there is still activity at the intersection and they need to be alert as to what other drivers and pedestrians are doing. Imagine if the bus was hit while stopped and the driver couldn't really say what happened because "Sorry, I was too busy texting."

I think texting and related activities may be cause for the epidemic I have noted of stop sign runners. Just this afternoon on my way to pick up my son I stopped at a four way and proceeded to drive through, some guy in a huge pickup just blew the sign on my left and tried to cut me off in the intersection- I forced him to stop, I did not honk or say anything but I then noted in my mirror he turned around and came speeding after me- caught up with me at a light and I wouldn't look at him- I think he felt silly after seeing I was an older guy then drove on. Such things have always happened but it is just getting systemic lately. Another is people backing up without looking. A lot of those people seem to be using phones.

At a time in our lives, we didn't have texting. We had to wait to get home, and use a phone. I don't text, or look at my phone. What ever message I have can wait. Because like others, I am more focused on the road looking for those that are not.

I think the new technology in cars, will help this issue. But there will always be accidents regarding distractions.

Texting and driving is just wrong. I would think it would be common since, especially if you are driving kids.

A non friend of mine, would always text me while she was driving. Like full on conversations.... She is a wreck waiting to happen. And people like her make me more cautious on the road.
