Asked by the officers to accompany them to his home, Reay agreed, asking that they drive him. He also voluntarily signed permission for the officers to search his home. At no time was he handcuffed or restrained, either at Wal-Mart or later at his home.
Court documents reveal that when the officers and Reay arrived at his home, the officers discovered a blood smear on the walk-in door to the garage. One of the detectives opened a door on Tamera Reays Dodge Durango and immediately noticed a strong smell of bleach or a strong chemical. The officers also noticed blood around the seal of the door, on the door and on the floorboard.
There was also a red substance that appeared to be blood on the floor of the garage, directly below that door. There was also a substance that appeared to be blood beside the Durango in the garage, according to the affidavit.
That night, Reay was arrested for first degree murder.
