SD - Tamara 'Tami' Reay, 41, stabbed to death, Pierre, 7 Feb 2006

I've been reading up on this today and here are a couple more articles. From what I've read, he's guilty, IMO.

Asked by the officers to accompany them to his home, Reay agreed, asking that they drive him. He also voluntarily signed permission for the officers to search his home. At no time was he handcuffed or restrained, either at Wal-Mart or later at his home.

Court documents reveal that when the officers and Reay arrived at his home, the officers discovered a blood smear on the walk-in door to the garage. One of the detectives opened a door on Tamera Reay’s Dodge Durango and immediately noticed a strong smell of bleach or a strong chemical. The officers also noticed blood around the seal of the door, on the door and on the floorboard.

“There was also a red substance that appeared to be blood on the floor of the garage, directly below that door. There was also a substance that appeared to be blood beside the Durango in the garage,” according to the affidavit.

That night, Reay was arrested for first degree murder.

In a plot concocted behind the bars of the Hughes County Jail, accused murderer Brad Reay allegedly drew his twin brother into a conspiracy to get rid of evidence and cast suspicion for the murder of his wife on someone else.

In court documents released Monday, Bret Reay, Brad’s twin brother, was charged with four counts of attempting to “hinder, delay or prevent the discovery, detection, apprehension, prosecution, conviction or punishment
of Bradley Reay for the crime of killing Tamera Reay, render assistance to Bradley Reay by providing false evidence purporting to implicate another for the killing of Tamera Reay” through four letters. Each count is a felony.

Reay Murder Trial Update
The trial in the slaying of a Pierre woman nearly a year ago has gone to the jury after two weeks.

Brad Reay is charged with killing his wife in a jealous frenzy. His lawyer says the man's 13-year-old daughter could have committed the killing, and there's enough reasonable doubt to acquit Reay.

And I just have to post this article. Dad took the stand in his own defense, still maintaining that his daughter did the deed. This is a pretty long article, but well worth the read.

http://www.capjournal.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=16626

Reay said his daughter - who was 12 years old at the time - actually wielded the blade, seemingly while in a state of catatonia. He is saying he only covered up the murder to protect his daughter, but is now concerned about her well-being and believes he will be a greater help to her if he tells the truth.

Snip....

Expected to be the final witness for the defense, Reay took the stand and testified through direct examination, about a close relationship with his daughter and a loving relationship with his wife, with whom he said he never fought.

Reay told the court that he and his wife had discussed divorce just days before her murder, but that they were trying to "work it out" even though Tami Reay expressed that she wanted to have the freedom to date other people.

That didn't mean she was having an affair, Brad Reay said. In fact, according to Reay, when his wife discussed her feelings with him, he asked if she had been sleeping with other men, and she answered no, but said there were a couple of men she was interested in dating.

Reay's twin brother -- Bret -- also was sentenced today for
trying to help his brother frame another man.
Because he cooperated with prosecutors and testified at his
brother's murder trial, Bret Reay of Helena, Montana, was sentenced
to the time he had served in jail -- about one-half year.

The Pierre man convicted of murdering his wife and dumping her naked body near the Oahe dam wants a new trial. Brad Reay's attorney told the South Dakota Supreme Court Wednesday his trial was missing one person's testimony on how evidence was handled.

Brad Reay's attorney, Tim Rensch, says the trial was missing the state crime lab custodian's testimony. It's something Supreme Court Justice John Konenkamp says is a common part of a murder trial.

South Dakota Supreme Court Justice John Konenkamp says, "I've been a judge for 24 years and I've never seen a case where a prosecutor doesn't put in a complete chain and this is really extraordinary."

The Supreme Court's decision will come at a later date.
