Sean Penn is such a tool

NOW THIS DELIGHTED & SATISFIED ME! If a businessman can do this, why couldn't Bad Boy Sean with his bucks have done this? For that matter, how come a lot of people with bucks haven't done this?

<DIV> NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 5, 2005 — Fed up with what he says is the government's slow response in rescuing residents along the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast, a California businessman is taking action.

Over the weekend, David Perez launched an effort to evacuate New Orleans — on his own. Using $200,000, Perez chartered a Boeing 737. Upon landing in Louisiana, he unloaded much-needed supplies he had purchased at a local Costco and later reloaded the plane with 86 weary hurricane victims. if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("MSIE") != -1) { document.write("<div style=\"float:left;\">"); } else if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Mozilla") > -1) { document.write(""); }

SNIP:
"These people need to have their kids in school and get their feet back on the ground," Perez said. "They have gone through devastation."
The group headed to San Diego, where Perez has organized a contingent of local families to open up their hearts and homes as temporary shelters.

Perez was there for every step of the journey, handing out boarding passes and helping with luggage. When the plane touched down in San Diego, tears of devastation finally turned to tears of joy.

I applaud Penn's intentions, but whenever a photo op takes priority over results real rescue efforts get put on hold and more people die. Bush's photo ops are a good example of that.

I dont really give a rats *ss what his motivation was, IF he would have been successful and taken just ONE child out of that h*ll hole, I would be very gratefull. Do you think the people in need of rescue really give a crap who is doing the rescuing and what their motivation is?
Then why take the boat full with no room for any evacuees?

If he wanted to help, he'd go in there with room to take people out, or supplies in. He wasn't there to help. It's not a question of motivations, it's a question of actions. He wasn't there to help - a full boat of people into New Orleans proves that.

How did the idea come that he was there to rescue people? Did he make it known he was going to be rescuing people? Or was that the assumption by whomever took the photos and such? Because my first thought was he was probably there to do a documentary since he's a movie director.

Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help."

I saw the television interview on CNN and he was there with a resident of New Orleans who was a historian. That person was going along with Sean Penn to take photos and notes and whatever else it is that historians do. Not sure if that was the same person that the Drudge Report was labeling as Sean Penn's personal photographer.

The interview also showed that Sean Penn was able to help a fair number of people get to safety because his boat could get to areas that the helicopters weren't able to reach, if that matters to anyone.

That matters - that's all the difference. So the boat wasn't full?

He wasn't in the boat during the interview so I'm not sure. He didn't talk much other than to keep repeating the name of a local hospital where people should go if they need help. The historian did most of the talking and the reporter said that the group spent all day yesterday ferrying people from their homes to safety. I don't remember the exact wording but that's the gist of it.

Hey, he is not my fav. person either, dont even like him, but like I said if he even managed to take ONE child out, I think it would have been worth it. Granted, a less crowded boat would have been better, but to save even 1 child is more than what alot of people are doing.

As far as an actor, he is one of my favorites, but as human being he is a very dark and self serving individual.

He's gotten the publicity now, maybe the next time he goes out in a little boat to help (if he does) he'll go out with only a helper, and this time remember to put in the drain plug.........

It matters to me, I think maybe we should wait for all the facts to come out before we bash the guy.

Yada, yada. He had a photographer with him. That is not a humanitarian effort unless you are hoping to use these pics. Alpaugh is circling and sharing with all news agencies and pinpointing where the victims are. Penn doesn't have a clue, he is exploitive. I feel like Gen. Honore right now, no BS. Just call it and get off your butt and quit honoring people who have everything to gain from their personal pursuits in a 12 foot john boat.It is ludicrous.

I loved this. I figure anyone who was married to Madonna would fit that description. I can't stand him or his ex-wife.

I truly mean this. If it delights and satisfies to criticize someone, then please be satisfied.

I don't know why this thread isn't in the PP. Who cares what he's up to unless it's because you disagree with his political views and want to bag on him for that. Why is he such a dark character? Is he a murderer? Child molestor? Thief? I don't know much about him other than I Am Sam was a great movie. :) I'm off to google his name and see what I find.

He is dark, likely because of his political views which tend to be progressive of human riights or his politics are left of center.

He is a brilliant artist. I loved his performance in " Sam, I am."

I love Madonna. I love how she "pushes the envelope".

I want to be happy. I want others to be happy.

I don't believe criticizing others leads to happiness.

I acknowledge that the people who criticize Sean Penn want to be happy just as I do.

I wish for their happiness.

I realize their feeling may not be mutual.
