The 29-year-old woman called 911 around 2:15 p.m. Thursday from the family's home and reported her 14-year-old son went unresponsive while she was disciplining him.

"[Mother] stated she was spanking him with an extension cord, and it went too far," a Seattle police officer wrote in a report.

Judge Klinge sided with prosecutors who asked for a bail of $3 million. KOMO News is not naming the woman yet because she hasn't been charged. Prosecutors indicated in court they expect that to happen by Tuesday.

It is a shame that the mother had to start as a mom at 15 y/o. Did she have any help? Was there a dad at one time? Any other source of help? Did mom have help from family/home/county services?
Was the other adult there able to do anything? Make a phone call? Go to a neighbor's home?

The woman has serious issues, and should be jailed for a very long time. The other adult in the house should be arrested for not stopping it.

“Spanking” and viciously beating are two different things. An open-handed swat on the bottom (meaning the fleshy buttocks) of a child to keep him from darting out into the road, etc. is entirely different than “beating”, both in severity and in kind. One is done out of love to keep a child who isn’t yet able to reason safe (never in anger). The other is cruelty. The opposite of love.

I know why she used the term “spanking”. She was making a veiled attempt to conflate the two. There is a world of difference between the two concepts, and they are mutually exclusive.

Also, hitting out in a fit of anger lasts seconds. It’s one lash, or one slap, or one cruel word. She is a barbaric monster, and I wish she lived in a state other than Washington.

Having accidentally hit my own leg with a power cord while hurrying to vacuum for company ... I know how much it hurts & burns, and that was a small whack.

I looked around online and cannot even find one photo to remember this poor sweet boy by.
Sorry this woman had to be a parent at such a young age but not sorry for her --- in that she inflicted this terrible painful hideous abuse on her own baby.
The pain he endured is beyond imagining.

I believe the charges of second degree murder aren't harsh enough.

I'm not understanding how someone could beat someone for THREE hours. I'm thinking my arm would want to fall off after 10 minutes. Seriously though... was she on something to give her super staying power/strength cuz that's a LONG time.

As for 1172 marks on his body... I've been wondering for a while now how ME's count when a body has a lot of stab marks (in the dozens). But 1172 strike marks? How do they count accurately without counting some multiple times in instances like this? Just trying to understand how they do it.

The ME declared his cause of death was multiple blunt-force trauma. He then suffered Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), in which the body sends blood to so many areas in the body that it cannot sustain the heart.

I know this is going to be like "Duh"... but it sounds like she has an anger management problem. Other than the obvious (a 3 hr whipping)... there's also what her boyfriend said in your quoted post.

This is an even bigger shame. He apparently didn't even legally live with her. I wonder why she didn't give him back to his legal guardian if she was just going to treat him in the manner that she did?
