I started the retrial tapes again, just finished with Day 21 (end of Pseudo Smith's testimony [where JM paoints out an hour difference in his Autopsy hard drive report but it didn't get clarified very well] and Flores), Geffner is next for Day 22, I so feel like skipping that, once in a lifetime should be more than any person is expected to endure, but I'll start it and see how long I can tolerate it.

Well, yeah lol I did want to hear everything that was said about that time difference, someone early said that his laptop was set on Pacific time (and not Mountain) so I was hoping to hear where that was said but I must have gone past it (I will take that title from you if I make myself go back and relisten to that section ) but if it was set on Pacific then he never reset it after buying it from Deanna, correct? And he set not only the new camera's date but time as well? I'm having a hard time believing that.

Almost a year gone and I still haven't gotten through all of the retrial tapes, I've just had the hardest time making myself, but it must be done before the book gets here.

That sounds very reasonable, I have little doubt she had ongoing access to his texts, the pattern of her texting him in the middle of him texting with other women is quite stark, just a little too much 'there' there for it to have always been coincidental. Thanks so much for discovering how she managed it, not being a cell-phoner I'm not aware of the ins and outs of the devices (still vying for dino of the year award lol). Oh, do you have any thoughts of why she still had a Helio on her list of coveted items yet had 2 of them through Gus? That just struck me curious.

The next question......How did she insert a text message into his "outgoing"? For instance, the one that supposedly got sent from a club?

I'm just curious, why are we referring to the Perryville Warden as "Big Bertha"? Seems like a derogatory name to call an individual who is doing an outstanding job.

At least in my neck of the woods, Big Bertha is what people call obese lesbian female inmates... Is there a positive incantation that I'm not aware of?

I didn't mean any offense! Puleeeeeze! I've been very complimentary of the warden. I really admire her obvious skills at being in charge of a fortress. Yowza: I also didn't mean it in any kind of lesbian-stereotypical sense! Any of the description ^^^would be alien and offensive to me.

There is WS history behind this.....a while back, before Jodi got sentenced, there was wishful speculation about how she was going to be put in line by a Big Bertha. All that was meant at the time, as I understood it, was there would be someone large (not necessarily obese, 'cos statuesque and muscled would likely work even better on Jodi) and intimidating to set Jodi straight on the double.

In my mind, ,"Big Bertha" became the equivalent of "a female who will set Jodi straight by making her do whatever BB wants with no whining from the PV Princess". From there, the "Big Bertha" moniker got transferred onto the obviously capable warden. She's not someone you'd want to argue with, mess with, or otherwise attract the attention of.

I am quite wistful that I'm not at all like that myself, i.e. someone you wouldn't want to argue with, mess with, or otherwise attract the attention of. Trust me: this warden is a genius.

The original term "Big Bertha" referred to a big gun. Yes, a big artillery shell-lobbing kind of an item.

I really really really wish I was tech savvy enough to figure that out. As I've said before, though, I still think toasters are a technological marvel- I'm afraid I'm a 19th centurian at heart. Victorian, almost.

I think the fact that texts could be send by computer and not just on the phone may explain how she could alter or delete texts, but I don't know how that worked so can't gauge the reality if she hacked him that way....

I imagine it is due to 'Bertha's' reputation as a no-nonsense woman who has steel in her veins to some degree, comparable to reputation television has made of the male wardens. We don't really know if these wardens are so stringent anyhow... Many of them have social science degrees, I believe and have worked with prisoners before.

Anyhow, the right 'corrective' punishment for the situation, vs. excess, I thought JA deserved DP anyway but at this point... I am not against the occasional solitary move for her. She takes advantage of anything provided for her so removal of the items to think about her actions for once, I am totally ok with that. Her mental state is always ****** anyway, everything is abuse to her and she preemptively manages to negate corrective approach IMO (not referencing her current 'management' btw, I'm fine with any limitation at this point, the rapper was over the top for me - in line with her Boys and Girls Club actions last year). Anyway, I do think to go with corrective behavior as opposed to inhumane treatment is the way to go. Not so sure solitary is inhumane - it depends on the person, the duration of time spent, etc etc.

I don't how I missed so much the first time around.

During JM cross of Darryl Brewer: she scoped out PPL in early spring 2006. By summer's end, 2006 (before September's convention in Las Vegas) she had:

1. gotten a boob job, telling Darryl the surgery, done in La Jolla, CA, cost $300.

2. She stopped paying her half of the bills (her half of the mortgage was $1,400 a month).

3. She'd asked Mormon missionaries to visit, and they did so multiple times by summer's end.

4. She'd told Darryl not to curse, etc. etc. Oh. And that they couldn't have sex anymore because she was saving herself for marriage.

5. According to Darryl, she'd already floated off into her "magical thinking" that PPL was going to make her prosperous. (Hint to D.- she wasn't talking about earning money herself through PPL).

What interests me about this isn't just that she obviously set out to hunt PPL high earners, it's that she absolutely specifically targeted Mormon PPL high earners. (Gus testified that the PPL regularly published a list of Executive Directors, categorized, basically, by how much $$ they earned. A shopping list for her, in other words).

She is a lying liar who only knows a few tricks, maybe because she's too lazy to learn more. I'm looking at her hunting preparations before Travis to gauge whether or not she was genuinely looking at Ryan Burns as prey, or if she turned to him as alibi as early as late April.

Do we know who else was on that list? Do we know when that list was published? I actually don't think a list of this kind is a rarity in sales businesses. Usually, there would be benchmarks to achieve a certain level. Those benchmarks are well known. However, PPL is a sales biz like no other and evidently you had to be constantly re-earning your title (weird!): they probably published the exact dollar amounts for their top sellers and not just the benchmarks for a title. So that list probably is for real....


Mmmmmm, you are arguing for a clear and perverse strategy: already in spring 2006, Jodi was evolving the concept that a successful PPLster combined with Mormonish was the kind of life partner she was seeking. Not a one at all used to working in any capacity with any kind of commitment, she begins working on this concept full-throttle. Her idea of "working" on it is adopting all the superficial stuff, like conventions, boob jobs, photo-shopped photos of her trying to look like a jet-setter, the " blond bombshell California surfer girl look" (note, she tagged along uninvited on a surfing trip???), and liberally-sprinkled Mormonish vocabulary..... [Funny that she never seemed to realize that real Mormons don't use Mormonish vocabulary.] All this is well underway by the end of summer 2006. She starts going to conferences, conventions, meetings with a vengeance... the PPL thing is falling into place. By then, she already has her Mormon veneer, like a special party dress.

I've worked in two federal prisons, and "Big Bertha" is a reference to inmates and commonly used in prisons for the large, domineering population puppeteers. Not for the warden.

Each prison is different, but lock down for us is much like SHU treatment. Eat in cell, no phone, TV, radio, etc. Lock down also means no yard time. We reserved SHU for inmates who were disruptive in decibel level to other inmates, so they can scream and yell without causing a reaction from others.

I keep meaning to post about the OKC convention and i keep not getting there. It really was like a contemporary Midsummer's Night Dream, all kinds of covert hookups and dodging in elevators and maneuvering going on.

IMO, no, the convention wasn't primarily about her lining up prey, though while she was there she did slip away behind T's back to attend a party so as to get Ryan on the hook. (Travis was trying to slip away from her at the same time).

The killer couldn't have been too intent upon Ryan as prey OR alibi at convention; convention ended March 16 or 17 and she didn't start pursuing him again until late April.

She always looked like one of those late night unfortunate commercials of "Girls Gone Wild" to me... I never really paid attention to her looks because I just naturally assumed she had little in the way of natural beauty, personality (let's not even go there), emotional intelligence, had an inferiority complex, and thus 'wildly' resorted to the most obvious facade of 'beauty' that she could go for... and "hawt girls" are blonde, are ready for sex, are readily available to do whatever the male wants, etc etc...of course, I put that together in .2 seconds... I live in NY, mind you. We've got many a types, party lifestyle, that's what I saw with her ASAP.

If that Attachment (now gone) was the comparison between isolation and lockdown, isolation sounded very much like the restrictions Jodi was under up to this time, from the bits and pieces we've heard coming out of the prison. Lockdown would presumably involve removing all the perks, like the TV, commissary, visits, phone, maybe books, and mail.
