I agree let's legalize it. Safer for the worker and purveyor of "wares". Would probably create a new income stream for lawyers, less disease. Less abuse. Might even change relationships between women and men in the long run.

I have known two former "working women" intimately and a few others on a social basis. (Club days)

I came to know their stories a bit. Although in those days, depth conversations were limited. I do know each woman I knew (not exactly a statistical certanty lol) had been sexualized as children. All were big party gals/clubbers.

They used their experience turning tricks to restore a feeling of power over their bodies. They also used the money to support a hedonistic lifestyle. My guess is my friends were not "lifers" but dabblers in prostitution. We were all pretty young and it was the "sexual revolution". These women I knew were not poor. Something else was going on.

Prostitution, whether it should be legal or not is an interesting topic.

Speaks to the heart of women's politics IMO. And it is a world wide phenomena with an economic reality. To think that ANY woman might be forced into selling her body these days for economic reasons is sad indeed.

I think it's a dangerous profession. The sex workers ought to get hazard pay IMO.

If it were legal and more socially acceptable I bet more women would hire escorts.

I think your attitude toward these people borders on bigotry to be honest..they are people who respected men tend to sleep with or hurt or maime or whatever-its the oldest profession..so why is there no protection and respect..only because all of us who are not prostitutes devalue them to that place..I dont want to be one but I am no better than them.
And for the person who refers to them as Ho's..and concludes ho's dont deserve respect?? Ho is an attitude not a profession. There are many who could qualify as Ho's who make money other than via prostitution..it refers to a behaviour..Many prostitiutes are nicer than most people here tend to be when there is someone to tear down - especially a woman.
