I am wondering why they think there is a second suspect too! I heard that they saw someone with a rifle but honestly, I haven't heard anyone who can confirm this. They are searching buildings now...but I am also hearing much of the Calhoun building as if they have him cornered there. However, not seeing any confirmation of this.

Press conference, UT president praises all LE involved, UT security, Austin PD etc.

Mayor says the same, Police Chief APD,state, 'good response', no other injuries besides gunman.

Head of T security, stated there were reports of a second suspect, so they are searching EVERYTHING to make sure there is no one else involved. Shots fired inside and outside.

Shooter did have AK47 per Art Aceveda, APD Police Chief.

No motives at this time.

Buildings ARE being evacuated. From my cousin who was holed up in her professor's office on campus: "We just got moved by heavily armed cops. That is by far the scariest thing that has ever happened to me."

Sirens going off for the 9th time on campus.

Eyewitness account, from Statesman:

Randall Wilhite, an adjunct law professor at UT, was driving north on University Drive this morning toward class when he heard what sounded a bit like five gunshots but which he initially wrote off as construction noise. When he saw students scattering, and then a man in a suit carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle running east on 21st Street, he knew for sure.

“He ran right in front of my car, fired two or three shots south sort of generally in my direction but not at me,” Wilhite said. “They seemed to hit to my left sort of in the median. It didn’t look like he was targeting individuals. He was just sort of shooting into the ground.

“He was about 10 feet in front of me. I was very vulnerable had he wanted to shoot at me.”

He said the gunman was wearing a white shirt and tie and a ski mask, and he described him as about 6-feet-2 and 200 pounds, with an athletic gait.

Since one is dead I would think the second one is the person Wilhite saw.

Well, my daughter and I are actually on our way to Austin! We have an appointment we can't miss. Seems there will be no problems as the location is quite aways from the UT campus.

From reading/listening to all the various sources....it seems the idea of a second suspect is due to the two completely different descriptions of the clothing by various witnesses.

My apologies, last post was incorrect! Just received this from my cousin on FB:

"No they haven't evacuated us yet. They are searching the building. They were yelling and trying to move us really fast and they had guns that were half my body size."

There are many conflicting reports of how the second suspect looks. Police are now just making sure that there is a second suspect because there might not be a second person involved.

The second person could be the first shooter that got described wrong by some witnesses.

The University is closed and the police are still searching the buildings. IF there is a second suspect he should be found soon, if there is no second suspect the swat teams might take longer to give the all clear.

Bomb-sniffer dogs are also searching the place.

Second suspect? Remains to be seen.

Totally agree and ex saying the same thing. Not convinced that there is a second suspect on campus...ex says it's probably just a precaution.

Gotta say though, a tank, SWAT and multiple helicopters in the area....sounds like LE is doing a fabulous job at making sure the campus is safe before taking it off lockdown!

At 10:45 a.m. sophomore Mark Divalerio and his classmates were barricaded inside room 100 of Calhoun Hall.

“The classroom we’re in has six doors, which can’t lock, but we do have the doors barricaded with chairs and belts,” Divalerio said. “No one’s too worried or scared. One of the doors did shake earlier. We don’t know if it was the accomplice or what or some kind who didn’t know what’s going on or what. After that everyone has been better.”

Can you just imagine! I would have been scared out of my mind!

Wonder who was the first person who called the incident into police?

I heard it was a taxi driver who actually saw the shooter. He was on KLBJ this morning and it was right after it was breaking news and noone knew about the shooting yet. Not sure if he was the "first" though!

Why do people still wear headsets/earphones to listen to music when they walk/run somewhere?

I'm reading through some fb pages of students there at UT...on one girl's page she posts " Looks like tuesday is going to be the worst day of college so far"
When asked why she responds; "Because I have a calculus test that I'm probably gonna bomb."
First post this morning for her was "Pretty scary morning. shooter on campus."
She assures a family member that she's okay and her family member tell he she's been following the story on the news and tells the young lady to stay put!

I'm sure that Calculus test is the last thing on her mind right now.
