Just popping in again :seeya:
I have a bad middle ear infection and I started bleeding from the ear at 4.30am after a big pop....turns out I now have a perforated ear drum.
Life is great

:seeya: if you can, try to see a ears nose throat specialist rather than your GP. My ear problems went on and on. At first it was only flying that would set mine off, but evolved into my ear randomly popping by pressure changes rolling down a window in the car...read up on it and make sure you get the right treatment for you! Take care! :seeya:

I just pulled it up on Amazon........hmmm.....debating whether I should "kindle" it. Reading that the ending was kind of a buzz kill, but with the "BPD, sociopath, psychopath" knowledge, does it make it better?
Thinking out loud....read all 5 of Dean Koontz's "Frankenstein", major disappointment when I realized the 5th was just written to fulfill his contract, the 1st 4 were great! Kinda like Stephen King, when he just puts in a bunch of "filler" so his manuscript goes 800 pages, ie., "The Stand" and "Dreamcatcher". I have a tendency to read the first sentence of a paragraph and if it's "blah", I just "bleep" over that paragraph.
Have a book sitting here my son's GF lent me, Ken Follet's "The Pillars of the Earth". His GF is finishing up her doctorate in Medieval Lit, so she's very Tolkien. That said, she's pretty awesome in a "daughter-in-law" kinda way, which looks like the direction they're going! :thumb:

History, and particularly medieval history, is a "hobby" of mine and I'm not Tolkeiny at all lol. I've never even read any of those books all the way through or seen the movies. I did read Pillar of the Earth, though, and also the "sequel" - World Without End. I really liked them both.

Im heading to ENT at the hospital with my little one at the end of july for her post surgery check up (she had an ear infection that turned into mastoiditis and emergency surgery) so I'll just pop it into the convo when im there.

I was prone to ear infections up until I was about 9, so much I think I was getting at least 10 a year and then they just disappeared. This is my first is 18years

Surprisingly it was sorer yesterday before the perforated drum. Was so bad that I wanted to smash my face off :floorlaugh:

I just blew my nose there and I swear some of my brain popped out my ear  :floorlaugh:
Can hear a little better now though, no pain no gain

Yeah the pressure building up probably.... Look after yourself

Josie, glad you feel a bit better, even if it might have been at the sacrifice of some brain cells :P

Also, I posted an interesting article in the jury speaks thread, kinda made me go "wow," given its timing and the particulars regarding the jury foreman :)

:floorlaugh: We mesh on Tolkien just cause I've always been a huge fan, and she studied it for the imagery, I guess?
Just started reading Pillars, up to page 15, (had to go do "chores" urgh!) love this author's writing style, I am sucked in already and the convicted is being ushered down to the gallows. I may be AWOL the next 2-3 days reading this!!!

The ending that everyone is critiquing stems from the fact that its pretty ambiguous...a little like the final episode of the sopranos!!!

I think the author may have been trying to soften the logical unhappy ending??? Put another way, an ending similar to Travis's. to me, it's really the only logical conclusion, but again I'm being heavily swayed by my experience with this trial! Many don't like or appreciate books that don't end on a happy note, and in this story, I think the ending isn't what people hoped for, ie., good prevails over evil. As we see in Travis's story, and in countless others in real life, evil can win in the sense that they either are never "caught," or before they are, they are able to do a **** load of damage before they're taken down.

As for the BPD, personality disorders aspect of the book, the author could have been using Jodi as a prototype, IMO, and for that alone I think it's worth it....I'm sorry but I may have been too spoilerish!

FWIW I loved, loved "pillars of the earth," and used tho read KF all the time.

And good for you on the future possibility of having a great daughter-in-law!

Gonna Kindle "Gone Girl"...you have me sold! TNX!

I know, right? Especially since I'm dieting today.

If I had a waffle iron, I would totally make that! Reminds me, on the savory side, when pizza has those little pools in the pepperoni - yum! :blushing:

There's always tomorrow!!!

Scarlett O'Hara: "After all...tomorrow is another day!"

Little Orphan Annie: "Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya, Tomorrow! You're only a day away!"

lol

Thank you, Jane. I wasn't through loving him.

That is the most poetic line I've ever heard. I'm sure he still feels your love, and benefits greatly (I've made it my life's work to study life after death, and I'm sure you've learned loved ones are never far away). Hope I'm not being too forward saying that. :blushing:

Ouch! That sound horribly painful...I hope it gets tester fast! Did the doc give you anything for the pain?

What happened to the foreman saying he will be doing very few interviews? By my count, he's done the most of any of them. And now he wants to write a book too. Can you spell m-e-d-i-a h-o-a-r?

I'm so ashamed of myself. I've jumped on the 50 Shades of Grey bandwagon  I finished the first one a few days ago and just bought the 2nd book.

I'm not impressed with the writing but embarrassingly intrigued by the storyline.
