Good night Daisy mff! Feel better. You need a nurse!

Love you guys. Awesome job Lambchop! Love you my friend!

College, yea that's tough. My kids are putting themselves through. We do not have that kind of money. Raising 4 was tough enough but we did it. They had everything they needed not necessarily everything they wanted.
Last year the company I worked for down sized. I was one of the people who lost there job. Unemployment, is not that good and it is running out along with the severance pay. Looking for a job at my age is tough. They look at those years on the resume and that is pretty much it. I was told by a recruiter to get the numbers off the resume and reduce the number of years experience on it. I wish I could retire but I am to young and it is unrealistic. Hubby is self employed. That is hit or miss. Kind of unsettling.

just reading through the posts from last night so i'm gonna jump off yours if you don't mind :)

i am so sorry you are going through this job search again. it's the worst but I KNOW you will find something and no I won't pull the whole "secret" and "positive affirmation" a la CMJA on you but I do believe you will find something, its hard because looking for a job is a full time job in and of itself. I left my job after i had my son in december and now i'm starting to look again (hated the job and was completely underemployed so i just didnt go back and couldn't justify the cost of day care for two kids with my income i made as a social worker). i'm not sure what your previous career was but could you consider going to a staffing agency that would place you somewhere? I'm going to be doing part time behavioral support staff work with kids through a staffing agency until I decide if I want to go back for a second degree or not. The pay is decent however they don't have health insurance but if you are already covered health insurance wise this could be a route to take at least short time while you are still looking.

college is tough financially, especially if your spouse owns their own business, it can really mess up the whole FAFSA and student aid process (this is what happened to me my first year of college due to my dads businesses that year). i have two kids now and want 4 but i might stop at 3. im the oldest of 3 and we all have about 30 grand in student loans, but we all chose to go to more expensive schools. i went to PSU but thats the most expensive state school for instate tuition in the country. i will say, as much as the loans suck, it does make me feel like i am responsible in also paying for my education which is a good feeling. the one thing i do regret, is not having a job in college. i feel like my parents weren't up front with me about how much my loans would total (my fault too, i should have asked more questions), and if I had known I would have got a part time job rather than spending every weekend at football games and partying. the other issue i had, was i picked a major that really isn't giving me a big return on my investment (social work), whereas if I had picked something like nursing from the getgo I would be in a much better position.

i'm debating going back to school to do an accelerated BSN in nursing program, its a 14 month program but that will be another $35,000 i'm trying to find out if I can use my husbands GI bill for it since he never went to college and doesn't plan on it (hes a cop)..i'm just petrified of more loan debt, but you can make a lot of money as a nurse and i enjoy helping people and am very interested in all things medical and I feel it would fit in with my family life and my goals for being able to help in my kids classrooms and stuff better than the typical 9-5 (i spent lots of time talking to the nurses when i was in there for 4 days after my c-section and they all encouraged me). I think I would want to work in labor and delivery if i do it. There are a lot of great hospitals around me and I know most of them require you have your Bachelors in Nursing now. Even some of the nurses who have their RN from a two year degree were telling me that the hospital is making them go back and get their BSN's if they were hired after a certain date.

anyway, sorry about the long rambling post, i just was reading about college and nursing so figure i'd add my two cents.

oh and on the topic of children and how different they can look: my 22 month old has olive skin, dark eyes, and dark hair just like my husband, she is his spitting image. i'm so happy she got his skin b/c im fair skinned and sun burns are a pain in the rear lol. my 7 month old looks nothing like her, he has light hair, crystal blue eyes, and is pale like me. he is the spitting image of my brother. they look nothing alike to the point where a mom at the park asked me if they had different fathers...i just laughed and when i said "nope but my husband swears my son is the UPS guys" (bc im always ordering from amazon) im sure she felt like an idiot.

Thank you for your input and encouragement. Yes, I am going to go to an agency. My job was nothing spectacular I worked in an office doing data entry and other office work. Some customer service, which truthfully, I don't love. I have submitted my resume to two jobs today and have another application to fill out today.
The kids were certainly expensive to raise but they were/are so worth it.
I wish you much luck in your very rewarding career. I think you will do very well just by the concern you showed to me, in your post.

Hmm, sounds good. I take a sedative once in a while too. I have always been anxious and prone to anxiety attacks. Not so much anymore but when nervous I feel knots in the tummy and want to barf.

i am exactly the same way. for me, I found that taking a low dose of a sedative as needed (usually twice a month on average) helped me more than being on something everyday but everyone is different and many doctors are hesitant to just prescribe a benzodiazepine or other sedative without an SSRI due to potential of addiction, thankfully for me, my dr at the time understood that i was having panic attacks about twice a month and agreed that it would be ok for me to just take something as needed. fastforward three years to after i had my son, i experienced PPD/Anxiety and was put on lexapro, which didn't work for me but works wonders for many, and then wellbutrin which I loved because it gave me energy as well and starts working right away, the only thing with this medication, is that it can actually increase anxiety in some people. i stopped taking it a month ago but it did work and worked right away. For me it got rid of the ppd and my anxiety, but again, everyone is different. I know many people who have had great success with celexa which helps a lot of with anxiety and is taken everyday. when my mom hit menopause, she went on zoloft and has had great results as well. it all depends on what works for you. IMO, less is usually more if it's just for anxiety and/or depression. My mom's migraines also went away when she started zoloft, her dr said the SSRI's can have this affect and there are tons of studies they are doing now on the correlation between the two.

i hope you feel better, anxiety is the worst. sending you a virtual hug :)

Want to thank everyone for sharing their situations. It is very helpful. :blowkiss:

Anyone got a non-prescription cure for an angry peri-menopausal butthead? (That's me. I need an attitude adjustment and my many approaches at spirituality, creative endeavors, exercise are not helping.)

Peri menopause was so much worse than menopause for me. It really sucks. At that time I was into working out...a lot. The good part was it showed and usually I was exhausted at night and slept well. Peri menopause can cause sleepless nights. I use to take St Johns Wart and that worked well. It takes a few weeks to work and made me happy, happy, happy. I stopped taking it because it is a blood thinner and I was afraid if I needed surgery (which I did) it would cause problems. I should go back to using it. Spiritually my faith in the Lord helped very much. Right now, I could use a good dose since I have shamefully gotten lax in that area. I NEED to go back to church. It's been several weeks since I have been there.

Thank you Ricki. :tyou: It's good to know I may not be an angry B for the rest of my life, at least I hope not.

Yes, loads of sleepless nights due to night sweats, cramps, or insomnia, and the loud neighbors. I got in trouble this week for banging too loudly on the wall at 3:30 a.m. to make them shut up!

I'll try the St. John's Wart. Maybe that will even me out for a while at least. It's been going on for a few years, but getting worse since December.

thank you so much, that means a lot to me :) just made my day that you said that.

in terms of job search, i think if you go through a staffing agency you would def find something at least in the short term. they usually have positions open for that kind of stuff. also, i know in the county I used to work for, clerical staff (i am just generalizing because this included everything from data entry to case dictations and transcribing, to doing paperwork in the DA's office, etc) was a high demand job in all of the offices and they were always looking for people. it also comes with benefits, retirement package, good vacation time, etc..Many people who I saw hired for this work were older and returning to the work force after raising kids or whatever the situation was...have you looked into working for your local county at all? i live in a huge county so it might be different but this is another avenue to explore. You also get to see all kinds of crazy stuff lol. what about a lawyers office? or a drs office? i know you have prob already thought of these things but these are the top things that are coming to mind. are there any data entry/medical transcribing jobs you could do from home? i would also check craigslist. I will put you in my "prayer jar" that we have in our kitchen in hopes that you will find something quickly, i know you will!

There is nothing worse than tossing and turning at night. I would of banged on the walls too if I was trying to get some sleep and it was late. Maybe when it is over and menopause actually sets in for you, you will feel better physically and emotionally. I did. Phew!! (PS, I still get hot flashes once in a while.

i like Kava Kava tea, this takes the edge off. I order it from amazon from the Yogi Brand. Also, you could try valerian which you can get at a drug store. I like reiki and other forms of energy healing as well but it can be hard to find a good practitioner depending on where you live.

Prayer jar... I loved that.
I just finished with an application to the town for a building department clerk. Not the first time I applied to the town, which is small. The last time human resources said they had a stack of applications 2 inches thick. I am well aware that it usually who you know, but I am trying anyway because it sounds like a job I would like very much.
I also received a call from an agency while we were in Block Island this week. My daughter got married there. You may have read that story up thread. Anyway, I was to busy and to excited to take the call there, so I am calling them in a bit to give them the info they are requesting.

my mom is going through this as well. she is taking zoloft. I have also heard there are supplements called SAM-E and 5-htp that can help, you can get them at the drug store. also make sure you are getting enough vitamin D. if you aren't getting enough from the sun you might want to get a vitamin D supplement.

Never heard of Kava Kava but I have camomile tea, which relaxes you. I tried valerian and woke up with a hangover type headache. Weird

omg i love block island! my cousins used to live in Rhode Island and we would go there when we went up to New England. what a beautiful place for a wedding, and congrats!!!!!!! maybe you will have some grandbabies soon!!!

thats great that the agency called. i'm sure they will be able to place you somewhere. the fact that you are experienced will only help. and sometimes temp positions can lead to full time positions. fingers and toes crossed! keep us updated!

i highly recommend kava kava, it's stronger than camomile, and yes valerian can give a hangover feeling. the reason I like the kava kava (and i use two tea bags) is that it completely relaxes you and makes you sleep, or if you just use one tea bag you are relaxed yet totally functionable. kava kava is basically what many cultures use for anxiety. i believe it works on the GABA transmitters the same way a benzodiazepine would. If you want to try it, it can be hard to find in stores so I would order it from the Yogi Tea brand on Amazon. it's fairly cheap too
