Anyone know how to find a good lawyer?
We are getting the run around now from not one, but two lawyers.
My mother died at the end of 2011. She named a lawyer to take care of her final affairs so that her daughters were not burdened; it was her intent that we not even know of her death until after she had been cremated. The lawyer turned out to be a disaster and basically did not know or care about the estate. She liquidated all my mom's IRAs and distributed the proceeds, even though we had elected to stretch the IRAs.
After many screw ups, we engaged a lawyer to represent us and deal with the lawyer administering the estate. Now we have two lawyers who are non-responsive.
It has been a month now that I have been trying to get the second lawyer to contact me and we're now looking a big problems filing tax returns by 9/15 because of him ignoring us. More than 2 weeks ago, we were told the matter was high priority and despite emails and phone calls, we do not have answers to some important questions. The handwriting is on the wall that this is not working.
It was so hard to find a lawyer with probate litigation experience in the part of Florida where our mom lived.
Grrrr...Mom would be furious to know how badly things have been handled.![]()
I wish I could help, but I am no where near Florida.
Here, the best ones really are the firms, with 4 or many more attorneys, and they have the t.v. commercials and the entire back cover ad on the phone book. (Not the way to decide on an attorney in other areas of law though.) You would not think that is the case, but a friend works in Probate at the Courthouse here and told me. Although Court employees are not to direct you toward whichever attorney or place, I wasn't asking for direction when we were outside in a family home backyard, lol.
You could try calling the Florida State Bar, explain the situation, ask some questions. I really do not know what to tell you. I wish you knew someone there that had the best of the best and could tell you who it is!
