Cold meds are kicking in so g'night all :seeya: Sweet dreams.

Btw...next time any of you have a head cold (sneezing, stuffed up, ready to cry and pull your hair out, etc.) try the Alka Seltzer tablets in water. I'd never tried them and they've saved my life this week. I still feel like poo but I can actually function during the day while at work when I take these.

Yes, I did ask. What I got was, both candidates were impressive but the 2 men that interviewed me on interview 2, offered the job to the other candidate. The woman who interviewed me and sent me the email said she did not know what the deciding factor was.

Two men... hmm the ages old discrimination of a woman.

In 1971 when I stated dating a co worker, I was told that if things didn't work out I'd be the one fired, not him...I protested that that wasn't right, and was told that a man's job was more important because they have responsibility that a woman doesn't have, like family, bills, things like that, you get my drift. We dated for over a year, but stopped when I took four to midnight at another company.

Ricki, honey, you didn't do anything wrong except (to be crude) what you don't have between your legs.

Don't give up yet. Sometimes it's just not time for our miracle, and we get frustrated and give up hope, but I promise you it will come at the perfect time.

But the other candidate was a women. She does not have anything between her legs either.

The government shutdown includes IRS offices, which are now closed.

The $hit has hit the fan with my mother's estate and as an absolute last measure I want to talk to the IRS to make sure that we don't complicate matters further.

Extended tax returns are due next Tuesday. All deadlines still remain in place while the office is closed.

Words of advice to those who own IRAs as part of their estate and to those who may come into an inheritance that includes IRAs as part of the estate: be very, very, very careful. This is a very complex area in terms of naming beneficiaries and what might happen if no beneficiaries are named. While there are ways for beneficiaries to elect different options for the distribution and taxation of IRA funds, the rules are very specific and must be followed to the letter of the law. One unintended step can have drastic tax consequence and the IRS does not have the authority to waive taxes because Congress wrote the tax laws.

So please be sure to take as much time as you need to ask all of the questions and get all of the answers that you need before you make any decisions or take any action. Don't rely on just one source. Ask the trust or estate administrator for full disclosure of the exact intended IRA transactions and their taxability before the exercise any action.

I am learning from the unfortunate mistake made by another. It will take years to unwind and cost a fortune to get everything straightened out.

Thanks gcharlie for the IRS update. We always file at the last possible date, at the last possible minute. I am sure our accountant is just thrilled with us. I have spent all day trying to get charitable donations and our horse LLC stuff together. I found out yesterday my husband never mentioned it to the accountant. Consider him crowned by me. :banghead:

Ricki, I am so sorry about the job. I am so disappointed for you. With the holidays coming up, I know you could get a retail job no problem. Think about the discount!

Trying to cheer you up some. HTH

I have two questions for all of you:

1. When not on the Sidebar here, on what forums do you spend your WS time?

I spend the majority of my WS time now in the Missing and Located forums. I'm not much of a sleuther so I really just read along. It's baffling, terrifying, and heartbreaking how people can just up and vanish. I joined a little over a year ago when our sweet Iowa girls Liz and Lyric disappeared, and until then I guess I was pretty naive.

2. How does a member become "banned," or "inactive?" I've noticed on some older threads (but some as recent as 2 years ago) that underneath some user names it shows them as banned or inactive members.

Just questions I've been pondering and finally got around to asking!

i will usually read along and follow with whatever the latest big case is like when Alexis Murphy went missing or the Hannah Anderson case, the others i check on a regular basis are Kyron Horman, Elaina Steinfurth, Jon Benet Ramsey, Amanda Knox, and lately Madeline McCann. I don't really post much just read. I have an unpopular opinion on Kyron Horman (dont think Terri was involved at all) and so i gave up trying to post bc everytime i would it was just shot down immediately. Tried posting about amanda knox but i really am not as knowledgable on it as most of the posters so I kinda just read along now. I really mostly post in here and lurk everywhere else.

I did smile a lot, and thought I was selling myself. The president was impressed with my questions. The CEO, although very nice, seemed more cool. He was more about do you need insurance, did you have paid time off at last position. IDK maybe it had to do with money. I will drive myself crazy if I keep trying to figure out why. Would of been nice if they would just say.

I wish you luck on your interview.

Ricki, I think you hit the nail on the head. Money. If you needed insurance and other benefits, and the other woman did not, chances are that is why they went with her. My husband is a small business owner (med practice-GP). He employs part-time people mostly, so he does not have to offer medical insurance. That is a huge cost for them so it could be a deal breaker when hiring someone. Benefits packages tend to be "added" to the cost of the employee. In this economy, it seems to be about the bottom line more than anything else. I am so sorry...

They are not supposed to ask those kinds of questions in an interview. Benefits are supposed to be offered based on the position, i.e., full time or part time, hourly vs. salaried.

If you are asked about whether or not you need health insurance or paid holidays, the best way to answer that question is to reply that benefits vary from company to company and you are interested in learning about that company's benefits. Just flip the question back on them. If they push, you know that the company is one that doesn't play by the rules. Do you really want to work for them?

Gee, I have been doing some thinking. Money is tight and I am getting nowhere looking for work. I have seen that many positions require office medical terminology. I know those jobs pay decent. Thing is I can not afford to go to school. I know the local hospital here offers a medical terminology course. It is a basic course and of all the luck, I just found out it started yesterday. I am wondering if there are any grants to be had to attend something like this. Anyone know and if so, how does one get a grant.

Also, the first woman that interviewed me told me they had benefits. They offered 15 days payed time off, matching 401, 9 paid holidays. They paid a certain amount towards health insurance and I believe it was 320 dollars and it was only for the employee.

True, but what does she look like? If you both were equally qualified, what did she have that you don't? If you're married and she's single, or doesn't have children, they would go for the one that would cost less in health insurance and any other benefits, but too many times it's the outside looks, and not the real person inside.

Unfortunately ,men think with the little brain most of the times.

Ricki, if you haven't used the unemployment office, please give it a shot. Make an appointment to see a career counselor. They do have some very good people working there who can be really helpful. They will be able to tell you about any grants or educational opportunities available.

I used them when I was out of work due to a family illness. I worked with a great woman.

Try it, you'll like it!

I am 58. I am told I don't look it. My children are all grown with their own kids. I have no idea how old the other gal was or her marital status.
And that is what I would really like to know, but they aren't telling what the deciding factor was.

Both the men were married, with their own children.

OK, I will try to find the number and right department and call tomorrow.

Which is why you never discuss your marital status or dependents in an interview.

It is off limits in an interview unless you bring it up. Don't open that door!

I've worked in upper management positions, so it would be very surprising if I got asked these kinds of questions in an interview. Still, I could see some places asking them when hiring for lower level positions. I'm not always so fast on my feet trying to turn around the questions that should never have been asked in the first place...maybe other people here can offer some answers.

It is really important to know what kind of questions prospective employers cannot ask when hiring and to understand the things not to bring up during the chit chat part of the interview.

:seeya: Thanks for the advice, because i'm in the beginning stages of a cold. ugh 'Tis that time of year again.

Trying to cheer you up some. HTH

On Monday, I think the Dallas news said that Gamestop was looking to fill 17,000 seasonal workers. They are out of Grapevine, and I know they have two shifts and most are probably packing game orders and inventory, but maybe they have some for taking orders, and can be do online.

BBM~ :floorlaugh: Sorry I read that funny. Were either of you wearing s skirt?

1. I go to the "Highway of Tears" forums and lurk Luke Magnotta, but I always return here.

2. "Banned", is simply booted out of here for life for something serious. "Inactive" probably means a member has not logged onto WS for quite some time.

They did ask if I met the other administrative assistant. I said yes, she was pleasant and we had grandchildren in common. Maybe that was a mistake.
