I am so upset, I am on the verge of tears. The job was offered to the other candidate.
The email I received said both candidates were impressive, yet the CEO and President made the final decision. I give up.

:grouphug: Ricki - I know how you feel!!

im so sorry ricki. i know it's easy for me to say "dont take it personally" but i know it's human nature to take things like this as rejection or take it personally. something better will come along, which i know you will hear a lot, but it really is true. aren't you with a staffing agency now? maybe they will have something else open up that they will recommend you for. everything will be ok i promise.

I'm signed up at least with 4 staffing agencies... it does no good! :banghead: At the State website, I've applied for 47 jobs, and "see" that only one employer has looked at my resume... :banghead:

I have two questions for all of you:

1. When not on the Sidebar here, on what forums do you spend your WS time?

I spend the majority of my WS time now in the Missing and Located forums. I'm not much of a sleuther so I really just read along. It's baffling, terrifying, and heartbreaking how people can just up and vanish. I joined a little over a year ago when our sweet Iowa girls Liz and Lyric disappeared, and until then I guess I was pretty naive.

2. How does a member become "banned," or "inactive?" I've noticed on some older threads (but some as recent as 2 years ago) that underneath some user names it shows them as banned or inactive members.

Just questions I've been pondering and finally got around to asking!

When not here at the Sidebar, I just got interested in the Bryce Laspisa (sp?) case. Following Sierra LaMar, Kyron Horman, Sky M., Lisa Irwin, Elaina S., and too many more to mention... you are correct - it is baffling how many people can just up and vanish!!

I receved an email from my sis. She is 5 years younger and she fills in at the schools around here as a sub or in the office or library. She has a college education and has been trying to get in the school system full time for a few years. She said there was a sub position opened that would go the entire year. They gave it to a young girl, who is said to be a friend of someone in the board of ed. No one has ever seen this girl before, so it is not like she has been filing in. My sis is also disappointed and mad as heck.
Really, I don't know what the older worker is suppose to do. These places certainly make us feel useless, when in fact we are not. We are willing and able to work for many more years, but are not given the chance.

I know - I'm 66 and just keep looking... and that the Congress MIGHT not pass a debt ceiling thingy, they might stop Social Security benefits!! :stormingmad: That pays my rent, and if that happens, the Huz and I are out in the street. And someone mention part-time jobs, yes, that seems to be all that is being offered - part-time for 6 months to a year contract!

Hi everyone! :seeya:

Do we even know that is true? She who whines the loudest may have nothing to whine about. How would she even know?

Or is it just another solicitation for funds put into her jail account for junk food?

Seriously, an entire family? Why?

Did her parents have jobs and quit, or were they already retired? Did the aunt and uncle lose business because of her? If it is true, is she the cause?

Did the family lie to her to stop sending money, or not to return to trial? (Are they local?)

ETA: Oh I see, maybe a ploy to keep the Alexander family from filing a wrongful death lawsuit? I dunno'.

BBM...

...and the prize for today goes to 21merc7 for the best question of the day!:fireworks:

21merc7 has learned well...trust nothing, question everything when it comes to CMJA

I didn't know if this could all be leading up to the civil suit, so that the Alexanders won't be able to collect anything from them if they all claim bankruptcy? I don't really know much on how that works, and figured someone here would know better then me!

Could this all be leading up to the civil suit I wonder? Also noticed that her sister Angela changed her name back to Angela Arias on Facebook and also changed her relationship status to "Single"...when it just showed recently that she just got married?

I posted that exact comment earlier.

Closed door hearings?

I believe there is a civil suit going on personally.

I saw that too, and held back on mentioning it. Did not want to bring the family into the fray.

It is not known who is doing all of this PR work, for lack of a better word, for CMJA. I don't necessarily assume that it is her family. Just as the Alexander family has kept a low profile, so has her family. Every once in a while, one family member from either side will make a statement through their own FB account, but all things considered, they both have shown a lot of restraint.

I'm not sure by what you mean about this leading up to the civil suit or how it would connect, if you are talking about the civil suit that the Alexander family intends to file. Can you explain?

BBM~ Yes, I believe the Alexander family has been in touch with Ron Goldman's family.

Someone else might have more insight on this.

:floorlaugh: Jodi stripped of her canteen fund! Just wait until she gets to Perryville.

As far as I know her parents own(ed) a restaurant and live in Yreka, CA.

I believe Jodi's "lost Helio phone" was found in her aunt's car.

Jodi's family all along tried to protect her and still do, but they've been sucked dry from attending trial in AZ for how many months?? January-May??

<modsnip>

Sorry About that ElleElle, I did not see your earlier post...sorry to repeat!

All good Lyndzi, nice to meet you! :seeya:

I wonder, yes, as you are speculating that if one declares bankruptcy, can they still be sued?

Where are our good old legal advisers on here when we need them! ;)

Bankruptcy only addresses debt already incurred, not future debts, so this would not make sense in terms of any anticipated civil suit.

That is why people are advised to use bankruptcy as a last resort measure. It will destroy one's credit rating, making it hard to borrow in the future, get insurance and now even impact trying to land a job, because prospective employers often look at credit ratings.

Also, a civil suit by the Alexander family could not attach to assets of her family and extended family. I'm not sure how her parents or aunt and uncle could be considered jointly and severally liable.

Just as the expense of attending trial was onerous for Travis's family, it had to be the same for her family. I can imagine that they have gone through considerable financial hardship and have welcomed any assistance along the way.

The tweets today did say "will be filing", future tense so there is no way to verify this right now. Bankruptcy is handled by federal courts and case information is public record, so if it happens, it will probably make news somewhere.

BBM - They have Jodi and her defense team to thank for that. The prosecution was done their case-in-chief in 9(!) days. Jodi got on the stand and yammered on and on and on for 18 days! Jodi tried to stick it to Travis' family by dragging the trial out for months, but it's her family that ended up taking the hit. Karma!

Anyways, now that I think about it, pseudo-Jodi can be tweeting this bankruptcy stuff to get more money.

Sheesh, I almost forgot that you cannot take one thing Jodi says/tweets seriously.

Who gets "royalties" from the Lifetime "Dirty Little Secret" movie?

Hi everyone! :seeya:

I'm not sure they can stop SS benefits because they come directly from our children's paychecks. I believe I read that those who are having SS deducted from their pay today are paying for those SS checks we receive. Social Security does not come from the government directly. The government already borrow from the SS reserves years ago and never paid it back. That is my understanding.

Practically speaking, when suing for damages, if there are no assets available to collect on any amounts awarded by the court, it makes no sense to sue. You can't take what nobody got.

The Alexander family will most likely be filing several civil suits. Just as the Goldman family sued for damages due to wrongful death, I expect to see the Alexander family do the same. I'm not sure how this would apply to her commissary account; she might be entitled to a small account balance, and any amounts deposited over and above that would probably be deducted and sent to Travis's family.

If people tried to collect money for her appeal under her name and she held legal title to these funds, they would also be subject to award to Travis's family. Thus, if an appeal fund is to be established, legal assistance will be needed so that these funds are not subject to award. Any appeal donations will be subject to income tax and this is another sticky wicket for planning purposes. State and federal law would come into play in terms of whether an artificial person (i.e., a corporation) could be set up for the purpose of an appeal fund. FYI, an appeal fund for her would never, ever qualify as a charitable organization.

Arizona does have laws that have come to be known as "Son of Sam laws", so that CMJA can not profit off of any book deals, movie rights, interview or other publicity that would earn income. Those monies, by law, would be paid to the victim's family as restitution.

I have a question.

Why would there be objection to sequester Jodi's new potential jury?

I think there would be benefits to a sequestered jury, no? Or is digging the CA skeletons out?

Off the top of my head, I think one ground would be that it would significantly limit potential jurors. Sequestration would present a significant hardship for parents with children or other dependants residing at home. Certain types of health issues might also affect ability to serve on a sequestered jury.

I think that I've read sequestered juries tend to be unhappy juries. If that is true, that in and of itself would be a reason to object.

Can you imagine being sequestered for three months? Depending on what the DT plans, that is possible given that the first trial took five months.

M, whatever happened with your car? Was it totaled?

M, whatever happened with your car? Was it totaled?

Hi there! Yes it was. I got a new car a few weekends ago, actually. A 2008 Pontiac G6. It's a cute little car but I really miss my Grand Prix.

I never heard back from the sheriff's dept. so I don't believe the other guy was charged with anything. I did receive a nice settlement from the insurance company though.

Wow, page 8, I have been away for too long. Hey everyone!!

Molly, I hope you are okay. I am so sorry. I never had a miscarriage but I can imagine the heartbreak and devastation that you feel.
