Happy New Year's morning everyone!! :loveyou:

21Merc mentioned some of her traditions past - almost like my own!! Before midnight you had to eat a bowl of peas so you will have no more tears for the new year; also, my mother took the fish scales off of fish, which you put into a napkin or tin foil and put it into your wallet so you would money for the year!

This new year's eve I did not stay up... I went to bed about 10:30pm, so I could get up and watch the Rose parade (my tradition! LOL!). First time I've not waited for midnight!! Guess I'm just getting too old!! :floorlaugh:

oh - just a side note - I have hit the "Thanks" button, but it's not appearing on all the ones I did that for... just to let you know I DID "Thank" all the posts above wishing us a Happy New Year's!!

Watched the Rose Parade which I have done every year that I could since childhood, when I wasn't working. My husband is working so it is just me and the dogs. I watched the ball drop and was so glad to see the annus horriblis in the rear view mirror. I am so hopeful that 2014 will be better than the last 5 years. I hope it will be a wonderful year for all of you. My wonderful, beautiful WS friends. Funny how we can count on each other more than we can count on the physically present friends. I feel so blessed to know each one of you. :)

Happy New Year I want promise myself anything this year but I sure need to get this
10 pounds plus pounds off that I gained watching the JA trail and reading here
about it seamed like all I wanted to do was eat while on the computer.Linda

Just a P.S. on the fireworks above from Riga... On the side the person is taking the pictures is the side we will be living on - across from Old Town Riga - across the Daugava River! :loveyou: My brother, who lives there now said he could see the fireworks from what will be our bedroom window!! We won't have to go far to watch them next year!!!!

What is everyone doing today? My hiney is parked on the couch, switching channels between football (GO IOWA!!! Third quarter during the Outback Bowl) and Roseanne reruns.

Think I'm going to color my hair tonight. Exciting stuff!

I got up at 1:00 and I think I need to take a shower.

We fell asleep before midnight. I don't care because I missed Miley Cyrus and I did not want to see her anyway. I don't care for what she turn into or how she is influencing the young ones.
Today, no plans, just relaxing. We are under a winter storm watch for Thursday night and Friday with a potential for blizzard conditions. I HATE snow.

I watched the Twilight Zone 'til about 1:00 (still watching it , while I make chicken soup- so good when it's cold out and at my son's request).

It was 9 degrees last night (about 22 now)- Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
We have the same storm watch here.
The heat was running all night (mucho $- ugh).
I.hate.snow.

(Miley Cyrus, who?)

The snow finally stopped here, thank goodness. It's just bitterly cold. So glad I don't have to go anywhere today.

YorN...what is your chicken soup recipe? That sounds SO yummy today.

For all my "old time" friends here at WS!!

You can sing along with Guy Lombardo!!

Guy Lombardo And His Royal Canadians - Auld Lang Syne (Capitol Records 1953) - YouTube

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne?

CHORUS:For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine†;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

<<>><<>>and just in case you don't know what the heck "Auld Lang Syne" means:
The song's Scots title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago",[5] "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for (the sake of) old times".
Scottish poem written by Robert Burns.

I so remember singing this at my parents' New Year's eve parties!! :loveyou:

Linda, welcome to the Sidebar :seeya:

:welcome5: We're a nice bunch :gathering: You should stop in more often.

I also ate while the trial was playing on the TV and probably gained, at least, 5 pounds (never mind the 25 pounds I have gained in the last 5 years or so ) I indulged in red licorice and dark chocolate kisses. :floorlaugh:

Yeah, I think we all gained weight while following the trial. :floorlaugh:

Bet you're getting excited about moving to Riga this year.

Happy New Years day , m. :fireworks: (Ick- football.)

What color?

YorN...what is your chicken soup recipe? That sounds SO yummy today.

I cheated today and I'm using College Inn chicken broth, but I usually use leftover chicken (whatever is leftover from either baked whole chicken or from chicken breasts- from the night before). I used boneless chicken breasts today.

Normally, I simmer the leftover chicken in some water in a large pot 'til the chicken falls off the bones.
I take the chicken out and then strain the broth.
Put the broth back in the pot- add diced onions, celery, garlic, potatoes, carrots and the chopped up chicken. Add salt and pepper, to taste. Simmer 'til vegetables are tender.
(sometimes I add peas, if I have them)
I make rice and put cooked rice in individual serving bowls and add the chicken soup to the bowls (this way we can have leftovers tomorrow and the rice doesn't get all mushy).
We sprinkle the individual bowls of soup with Romano cheese.
And I usually make garlic bread (but not today- don't have the Italian bread).
Simple and taste good.

Yeah, I think we all gained weight while following the trial. :floorlaugh:

I just hope the lying torture murderess is losing 'wait' for her sentencing.

I, for one, am tired of the 'wait'.

I would read and eat get mad and eat and just eat to eat and the pounds just packed on
I guess I let her get under my skin so much I did the same thing with the CA trail

Did I read that Steven Alexander said the trail would start up again med Feb.
Am I right are wrong Why is this trail dragging on and on the family as been through so much and they are still going through it it's time for PerryVille
