Where did she go?
She's in the back stall, you can see her legs and the shadow of her tail swish every once in a while.

Q-T? It made my nose orange for a whole summer.

YES! :blushing: That was definitely it! Thank you , I could not remember the name. I just remember taking a scrub brush to my skin for days afterward trying to " even it out/off"

Have you seen the first bubble of the sac hanging, Bernina? They say that will be our first indication that birth is imminent within a few hours. We will see the sac with legs first for awhile, then .... Wait some more ..... Then the big splash of the water breaking ..... Wait a minute, wait, wait, wai.... Plop! There , that lumpy mass is our pride and joy baby! :happydance:And mama will walk away.

Still physically sick over the beautiful giraffe at Copenhagen's zoo. What possessed that vicious employee!
Me too. Hi Tuba, well I haven't touched my computer yet. I decided to do it tomorrow. I am exhausted. Spent half the day at the doctor. Then came home to find Erin Corwin had been found murdered. I know that we know to expect those things but I wanted so much for that young girl to be alive. It drained me. I had to lay down awhile. I'll never understand how a human being can do that to another. Thank you for saying you would be here. I think I will just read all the posts and start anew tomorrow. Thanks again. Will let you know. I would love to see my computer not sick anymore! :)

Curious, I didn't know you were using an iPad now. I am almost always using my ipad and have had no problem. Do you know how to close all open programs on it, clear history and cookies from Safari (you will have to re-login on your sites)? And then do a hard shut-down by holding both the button at the top that turns it off while also holding the center button that closes programs; when you get the slider to close the ipad, slide it to the right to shut off; wait a few seconds and then turn it back on holding the on/off button at the top until you see the apple logo. Then wait for it to re-load your ipad icons. See if that helps you or I will be glad to walk you through it via PMs

Spellbound, I have an ipad 1, oldest version. And when I go to history there is nothing there about cookies. So I went to settings and there is no "tools" section. So I went to Safari and there were two choices about cookies. One was never allow cookies and the other was allow only to sites I visit. So I checked never. There wasn't anything there about clearing cookies.
Then when i double click the home button nothing really happens. I can certainly do a hard shut down and see if that helps. Thank you. Tomorrow I am going to tackle my hard drive on the desk top. It's REALLY sick. Tuba had some ideas for it. Any other ideas, please share. Thank you! :)

She sure looks like she is in labor!

:laughing:Probably.... She fools us nearly every day , standing so still for so long', moving her back legs "into position ", doing squats, etc I had to watch the video of her birthing Kiko to get an idea of what to expect, and I bet she still fools me. Apparently there is about 30-45 day "window" for her due date :gaah: Although we expect it by the end of August at the latest (I won't bet on anything!)

Well the father of the baby is as excited as we are. He keeps leaning over and taking a sniff to make sure she is ok. :)

I am glad he is there because I thought my computer froze a few times and if it wasnt for him being there, I would have never known it was a live shot. The mom is so still at times.

She is getting close but I also thought that yesterday too. :)

Its too bad there isn't a button the Mom can push to make baby come out. Like reach up with her front hoof and press her horns and out it would come. :)

I will try to find a manual for the older ipad and get back to you . I will send a PM if I find anything helpful

This is probably a dumb question. Do zookeepers ever touch or closely interact with giraffes?

BABY WARNING ....MAYBE?.....Something is coming. I think?

It could just be that bacteria plug someone mentioned but it sure looks like something is getting larger opening in that area. I dont think I have ever seen that area as large as it is now. And she has been acting real strange the last hour or so.

She went back to the other stall. Wish they had cameras in both stalls.

Ok now I feel really stupid. I went back to settings and then to safari and right smack in the center of the page was a box to clear cookies. So did it! Hope it. Works. Thank you. Now if I can use all the tricks on these posts to fix my hard drive, I will owe you guys forever! The only thing that didn't seem to work was pressing home key twice. It just sat there.

Cornell Law School has an online site where you can search for “scholarly articles” written by law professors on different subjects – I found several interesting ones re: mitigation factors in death penalty cases. Two had to do with what was found when a study was done with jurists that had served on capital cases about what did or did not influence them. Both articles agreed on 3 primary factors, one had the study’s tables showing results to various questions and these were by far the highest influencers. They also included suggestions for defense of these factors. Quoting some of it here ( my notes in red about how they might relate to this case or rebuttal if she presents them):
The empirical studies reveal that three primary considerations drive juror decision-making at the penalty phase of a capital trial.
1. First, many jurors' penalty determination is based on their perception of how "bad" the crime was.
2. Second, many jurors make the life or death decision based on how dangerous they think the defendant is.
3. Finally, jurors choose the appropriate penalty based on their assessment of the defendant's remorse (or the lack thereof).

A skeptical reader might ask, "What do any of those three issues have to do with mitigation?" The considerations appear to be driven by the facts of the underlying crime. But the skeptic would be wrong. Each consideration, the empirical studies also show, can be substantially influenced by the evidence in mitigation. Successfully humanizing the defendant through the mitigating evidence, for example, leads jurors to believe that the crime was not as heinous. It also makes jurors less likely to view the defendant as dangerous, and less likely to see him as remorseless. A comprehensive, consistent, coherent, and credible presentation of mitigation evidence can-and often does-influence a juror's determination on all three issues.
Some of the ‘strategies’:
#1 How bad, or Vileness of crime. "However, jurors do view a crime as less vile-and less deserving of death when a victim's own actions at the time of the crime put him or her at risk, or in some other way were morally blameworthy." Her claim that it was Travis’ gun and he came after her first. His psychological abuse led her to snap and she wasn’t in control of her actions. Chris & Sky Hughes will be asked about their email to Travis about his ‘abuse’ of her. "Finally, perceptions of vileness are clearly influenced by beliefs that the defendant acted in a premeditated way, and decreased by beliefs that the defendant was "crazy" or was mentally impaired " Premeditation was found but she may still argue it, because any question in the jury’s minds about her guilt or actions is another factor mentioned in this study – they can be there but were just not enough to overcome aggravators in guilt phase, but could still influence mitigation. Her defense is to show she was driven into this ‘fog’ murder, as a victim of his abuse and more specifically on that day by his physical aggression towards her.

#2 How dangerous. "Jurors are also more likely to impose a sentence of death when they believe that the defendant will not actually remain in prison his whole life; indeed, the shorter their estimation of the time the defendant will be incarcerated prior to release should they not sentence him to death, the more likely they are to sentence him to death. That is, jurors may not really prefer to execute the defendant, but they prefer his execution to his continued threat to the safety of the community"
“Now here is some good news, because in most jurisdictions, a capital defendant not sentenced to death will be imprisoned for life, and even in the rare jurisdiction where he will eventually be released, his release will be significantly later than jurors believe it will be. So the truth will, if not set the capital defendant free, at least increase the likelihood that he will live. Repetition of the truth of incarceration for life-as well as its incorporation into jury instructions-matters. Witnesses should be encouraged to explicitly refer to the alternative of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, and lawyers should train themselves to use the entire phrase whenever speaking of the decision before the jury.”JM already argued that this statement by the defense in closing last time was not accurate and the jury should know the possibility is there, if parole is reinstated. Defense may be less obvious in their closing this time, but will try to insinuate it instead?
“An expert on adaptability to confinement (who often can also provide the testimony on the security of the state's prisons) can disabuse the jury of the belief that behavior on the outside predicts behavior on the inside, and substitute a more accurate (and generally more favorable) assessment of likely behavior while incarcerated based upon prior behavior while incarcerated, or in some cases, while in a mental institution, or even in the army” This is the reason they may call that prison expert – to testify how she will be controlled in prison, and to testify that her record in jail has been good (expect to see her infractions explained away as non-violent and nothing to worry about?)Also may be another way to insinuate that parole will never happen and she'll be in for life.

#3 Remorse They do mention that bringing up remorse in the penalty trial is not a good idea. Jurists generally don’t believe it’s real unless it was presented earlier in the trial and hopefully by someone else testifying to her statements of remorse prior to arrest. They also mention that if defendant didn’t readily confess, or tried to lie, remorse is hard for a jury to accept. Also, her statement in that interview that no one has any reason to fear her, unless they abuse her (or whatever she said), also shows she does not show remorse – she thinks he deserved it!
