I had to be gone today. Much to do in real life and have to work next week and get ready for Thanksgiving. Can anyone briefly summarize the outcome of today's hearing for me??

  • #322
What a contentious and intense court hearing! I’m sure I am not alone in experiencing significant spikes in blood pressure, and a rabid like desperation to keep up with tweets. BTW, a huge thank you to all who compile tweets for us. I hope you know how appreciated you are!

Now for a brief OT: I recently found out I will be housebound for several weeks, unfortunately spoiling holiday plans as well as generally contributing to the insanity of forced and solitary recuperation.

I am reaching out to anyone who could give me some great reading suggestions. I must have books. If I am to survive this confinement, I must have books! I loved Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Michael Connelly books, Jodi Picoult. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I don’t even have a day to go library “shopping” so Amazon it is. (I have Amazon all queued up, ready to accept an overburdened credit card.) I have tried unsuccessfully to read from kindle or a tablet, so old fashioned books it must be. Thanks in advance!

So sorry to hear of your confinement.
I have read all the books of the authors you mentioned so maybe our tastes are similar. Here are a few more of my favorite authors: Kate Morton, James Rollins, Peter Robinson, Elizabeth Kostova, Dan Brown, Greg Iles, Elizabeth George, Lincoln Child & Douglas Preston (books that the last two write together and I like the books they write individually too). Good luck! I hope this time goes fast for you!

... and I'm sitting reading the posts and trying to type thru tears... :tears: :tears: :tears:
as we had to put down Emma about an hour ago. She was missing most of the day this morning and when she came to the door, it looks like the cancer in her leg had made a HUGE hole thru her leg and we knew it was time... :tears: :( She has crossed the Rainbow Bridge...

okay - will try and get back to reading the rest of this thread!

:seeya:

So sorry for both you and Emma. I almost never read the Sidebar, so I don't know the backstory... but at least Emma came home despite being in such rough shape, so she must have really wanted to be with you.

A couple of years ago I had to put down the cat I'd had for about 15 years, then a few months later had to put down the "replacement kitten," who was fine for a couple of months, but then got so sick over the course of the next month, despite everything the vet and I tried to do, that finally we just had to let the poor little guy go. It felt like a different kind of kick in the gut than when I put down the old cat, but both were awful and involved a lot of tears. We love them as much as possible, then help them "cross the rainbow bridge" as gently as we can. It can be really hard to take comfort in that, but I think it is something that in the long run is helpful to remember. (I now have two very robust cats, one of whom is snoring under my chair and the other one is cutting off the circulation in my lap.)

Best wishes.

Okay - late to game again - but have a few comments on the Twitters post... snipped by me! :)

can't WAIT to see this after the verdict when they release the tapes!! :happydance:

I started wearing glasses in the 2nd grade - then when contacts were new in 1964, I got those, but unfortunately, I had to have cryosurgery on my retinas, as they were tear and getting holes, so no more contacts... :blowkiss: It will be okay Bernina!!

but... didn't she just say she had no technical knowledge, but can say what a writer blocker is?? :waitasec:

Too late to tell you to do all your stuff tomorrow (today)!! MORE rain Saturday!! (love YESorNO's rain picture!! )

and a BIG :gthanks: to Bernina, Spellbound and Rhozwen for posting the Tweets!!

Maybe it's just my twisted brain, but this could be JA next time there is a singing contest at the jail. Yeah it's not a Christmas song, but I could imagine her singing most of these lyrics.

I am so sorry, Niner and Janz, and anyone else who recently lost their furbaby. The tears come from having loved deeply and knowing they will be missed. :therethere:

Yikes!

Have you read any Dorothy Sayers?

http://www.amazon.com/Dorothy-L.-Sayers/e/B000APFQ6I

My favorites are the ones with Harriet Vane, Peter Wimsey's love interest. She is first introduced in "Strong Poison."

The Adam Dalgliesh books by P.D. James?

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...d-keywords=pd+james&sprefix=pd,stripbooks,427

The Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes books by Laurie R. King?

http://www.amazon.com/Laurie-R.-King/e/B000AP5DZ2/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1416621838&sr=1-1

What about the Simon Serrailler books by Susan Hill?

http://www.amazon.com/Susan-Hill/e/B001HD36KK/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1416621958&sr=1-1

(She also wrote "The Woman in Black," which is not part of the SS series, and is the scariest book I have ever read. Much better than the movie.)

Patricia Cornwell?

http://www.amazon.com/Patricia-Cornwell/e/B000AP9UGU

Jason Bourne books by Robert Ludlum?

http://www.amazon.com/Robert-Ludlum/e/B000APFYQ0/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1

For laughs, I recommend David Sedaris:

http://www.amazon.com/David-Sedaris/e/B000AQ3YUW/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1416622306&sr=1-1

Finally, when I just want to curl up with something, every decade or so I re-read some childhood favorites, for example:

http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Garden-Frances-Hodgson-Burnett/dp/0451528832/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416622877&sr=1-3&keywords=secret+garden

http://www.amazon.com/Little-Prince...id=1416623108&sr=1-2&keywords=little+princess

http://www.amazon.com/Little-Women-Louisa-May-Alcott/dp/1497432529/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416623170&sr=1-2&keywords=little+women

http://www.amazon.com/Heidi-Johanna-Spyri/dp/1402726015/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416623970&sr=1-1&keywords=heidi

... and anything by E.B. White (for kids or grown-ups):

http://www.amazon.com/E.-B.-White/e/B000AQ4ORY/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1416623513&sr=1-1

And as a special bonus recommendation: "Rogue Male" by Geoffrey Household

http://www.amazon.com/Rogue-Male-Re...08&sr=1-1&keywords=rogue+male#customerReviews

wait, no...

I am in the process of watching the cross examination of Jodi, Just a quick question. Does she ever answer a question directly??? Every question seems to take ages, having to go around the block and back just for her to answer yes or no. The smirk is driving me insane!

Sometimes... when she has a lie prepared ahead of time.

Pillars if the Earth by Ken Follett. Best book I have ever read. I would have never believed cathedral building 1000 years ago could be made interesting but I highly reccommend this book. It was also made into a miniseries and is available on DVD. God bless you!

Oh... that reminds me of "The Cloister and the Hearth" by Charles Reade. Romance, adventure, art, and all sorts of social complications in 15th century Europe. Don't read too much info online... there are spoilers everywhere.

Hey, do you have a library card? Lots of libraries have on online book system. I have used this, borrow and online returns, sorry if anyone else has suggested this, but it really is great! Lots of times I can't get to the library, and I only buy books that are close to my heart. Sorry to hear you will be homebound, be well.

Day 13 of Jodi Arias Trial: Defense dismissal motion on tap

"...The second witness, computer forensic expert Bryan Neumeister, said he found 70,000 modified files on the laptop that previous experts didn't catch. He said he found traces of searches for 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, calling the search terms vile, and that he discovered the laptop had been turned on and off twice since Alexander's death, which he said is against forensic protocol.

Martinez is now asking for the clones Neumeister made of the laptop's hard drive..."

Can I just share something just amazing that happened for me today? I worked all day with my friend Mya in her office (we tandem treat patients one day a month) then she had planned to take me to a late lunch after to celebrate my birthday belatedly. Well what she ended up doing blew me away. She took me on a full blown scavenger hunt all over town starting with this great health food restaurant for lunch (she was giving me envelopes with clues all along the way) then a bookstore where she had a bag of gifts waiting at the counter, the pedicures next door with another bag of gifts waiting and another clue, then we went back to her office and picked up balloons and two sm bundt cakes and then to this magic bridge I walk in Tempe where we did this ritual with the balloons and walked the bridge together. Then sat on a bench and ate cake. It was utterly amazing she did all that for me. There were 6 clues in all and little poems inside each one and several gifts all along the way--including one out of her trunk at the very end--they were all themed for Seattle where I'm going for a month in January to spend time writing a book.

I am just sitting here blown away at all my dear friend did for me. And she has two little kids and still spent all that time and energy on me. I''m just filled with happiness!

So sorry to hear you're homebound, hope everything's ok, Spycraft. I'm with you, I only read 'real books', no kindle, etc. for me. Old fashioned ? So be it. Let me know if I can send you some books, I have book shelves overflowing.

325 days of 2014, only forty more to go.

1944 - “Happy trails to you, was heard as .” The Roy Rogers Show debut on the Mutual Broadcasting System. Singing along with Roy (‘The King of the Cowboys’), were the Whippoorwills and The Sons of the Pioneers.

1960 - Floyd Cramer's Last Dance tops the charts. (my mother and father would dance to this every Friday night when we'd go to eat at a little drive dinner. They would sit together at a table away from the four of us)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkC1RId-Xi8&feature=player_detailpage

1980 - Millions of viewers tuned in to find out "who shot J.R." on the CBS prime-time soap opera Dallas. Kristin was the character that fired the gun.

2014 - The Jodi show grows more and more interesting as another layer of intrigue is added.

Spycraft, it's not a suspense or thriller type book but it was so charming I've read it twice (and cried at the end).

The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

Also if you like memoir I thought What Remains by Carole Radziwill was very good (she was best friends with JFK Jr and his wife when they were killed within weeks of her losing her own husband to cancer--very sad but very well written book)

Just a couple of different ideas to put in the mix and I hope your confinement leads you to vibrant health on the other side of it.

That is very cool, KCL. So, when was your birthday? Mine was last week but I did not get a scavenger hunt or a bundt cake. Got some well wishes though, and can't knock that.
