A Baby Boomer’s History of Mars

The Red Planet has fascinated humans since ancient times. The idea that it has intelligent life – advanced mostly by self-taught astronomer Percival Lowell – gave us a century-long case of “Mars fever.” On the 50th anniversary of Mariner 4’s quest for an up-close look, how many of these Martian moments do you remember?
1898: The War of the Worlds in H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic. Martians use robotic fighting machines to take over Earth.
1938: War of the Worlds (radio) Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre make an alien invasion seem just a bit too real.
1953: Invaders From Mars The surreal frightfest begins with a 12-year-old boy seeing a flying saucer land out back.
1962: The Three Stooges in Orbit Moe, Larry & Curly Joe foil Martians intent on destroying Disneyland – and the rest of the planet.
1963: My Favorite Martian The TV series features Ray Walston as an anthropologist from Mars who’s stranded on Earth.
1964: Mariner 4 The spacecraft takes off to capture the first images of Mars from deep space.
1971: Sesame Street’s Yip Yips These bug-eyed little Martians have terrifying encounter with everyday Earth objects.
1977: Marvin the Martian The soft-spoken but evil villain created by Chuck Jones in 1948 costars in Bugs Bunny in Space.
1990: Total Recall Arnold Schwarzenegger travels to Mars to uncover who he really is and why his memory was erased.
1996: Mars Attacks! Tim Burton lines up big stars for his parody of sci-fi B movies, based on the cult trading-card series.
2024: Mars One A one-way trip to Mars? Would you volunteer for a permanent human settlement?

BBM I remember the Yip Yips- my older son would watch them when he was a toddler and so did I. They were the cutest things. :)

Isn't that what all parents of murderers do? Don't they all go straight to the internet and plead/ask/beg for pity money :giggle: Geezz I have never seen anything like that family.

Does the name Anthony come to mind?

Since I lost my best buddy, I've been looking at videos of weimaraners. Here is one from Sesame Street that is so hilarious! Watch the dog on the right when they are kneading the bread.

It is totally disgusting. The killer has been convicted of Murder 1, has cost the AZ taxpayers millions of dollars ( for a non resident at the time of the murder) and then the parents have the nerve to ask for money. Some people are just totally disgusting.

Good morning all.

Jodi Arias Defense Challenges Murder Conviction

"...All I can say is that I truly hope that when the penalty phase concludes, Jodi Arias gets a visit from the IRS for a nice, long and extensive audit for the last 6 years of her life behind bars..."

Death row inmate's prison food complaint rejected

"HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A federal judge in Connecticut has rejected the arguments of a home invasion killer on death row who complained that the food he is being served in prison is not kosher...
Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky were sentenced to die for the 2007 murders of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, 17-year-old Hayley and 11-year-old Michaela, at the family's home in Cheshire. The victims were tied up, two of them were sexually assaulted and their bodies were found after the home was set on fire. Hawke-Petit's husband, Dr. William Petit, was severely beaten, but survived.

EXCLUSIVE: JODI ARIAS PSYCHO CONFIDENTIAL

"A TV news show recently raised that question by comparing the bru*tal murder of Arias’ ex-boyfriend to the iconic shower scene in “Psycho.” ..."

I was watching Psycho on TCM and when Norman was cleaning up the bathroom, I thought of missy:jail: and her attempted clean-up of Travis' bathroom. Norman's clean-up was very easy because Hitchcock didn't have a lot of blood in his scenes and his victim stayed in the tub (mostly- she fell and was half in-half out), unlike missy's:jail: scene, where Travis tried to escape. Maybe missy:jail: thought there wouldn't be so much blood if she indeed thought about the Psycho movie and the easy clean-up?

----Just a thought (I hate the way Travis' murder just creeps into my daily life) :(

How adorable (and funny :floorlaugh::floorlaugh: )

William Wegman was so good at photographing his weimaraners and the photos were so :hilarious: (of course you must know about Wegman). I remember seeing some of his

photos in a magazine in the late 90's (?).

Any word from Daisymae? Has she recovered from her bad fall?

Just re-watching CMJA's interrogation:

At about 51:30, she says she "Mapquested" "a bunch of places"......wonder if THAT was ever found on her computer or phone?

 • #938
Why did CMJA duct tape her "LEGALLY" purchased firearm inside the engine well when all she had to do was store the gun in one place, unloaded, and the ammunition in another? Like, unloaded weapon in the glove box, and ammunition in the truck or vice versa?

I had 20-30 people over for Thanksgiving. Menu was: Turkey, Ham, Broccoli-Corn Casserole, Sauted Butternut Squash with Portabella Mushrooms, Salad, Olives, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Green Beans with Bacon, Rolls, Cranberry Relish, some stuffing, several Vegan dishes and some more steamed veggies like Broccoli and Cauliflower, and 7 pies- 4 Pumpkin (2 Vegan), 1 Apple, 1 Berry, and 1 Cranberry/Cherry. We skipped doing more stuffing and asparagus, and I hate yams/sweet potatoes so we didn't have that.

Seven pies? Seven pies? Wow. That sounds like a banquet of sumptuous proportions.
