DH gave me a Kindle Fire for Christmas. Any suggestions for best books written by former jurors? Or intelligent, well written true crime offerings?

One of my nephews gave one of my sister and I a Galaxy Tab 4. He said I could take it back and forth between our wireless here at home and my other sister's wireless at her home so I can keep up with the trial and not have to take my laptop back and forth (which I thought was the purpose of a laptop) when I go to cook in the afternoons.

How does any of this work? Is it like a mini laptop? I saw where I can get a mini keyboard for it. Can I be on Websleuths and have a tab open for WAT to read the tweets? Is it like a Kindle? or whatever else it out there? it is just for reading books?

Good morning :seeya:

Just a couple of things this AM:

This is picture of the victim of #JodiArias, Travis Alexander. Hopefully 2015 will bring his family some peace.

New Year's resolutions for the players in the Jodi Arias trial

"... what resolutions should the players in the State v. Jodi Arias trial have? (Besides the obvious one -- ending the never ending saga).."

Yes or No, thanks for posting this picture again of Travis. I love this picture. It is a reminder to all of us that this trial is all about justice for him.

I think she may have been thinking of going across a border...Canada? Mexico? And she hid the gun there

It doesn't make any sense at all to me.
They've had whole vehicle scanners on the Mexican/Arizona and California borders since 2000 and rental cars packed up would REALLY have the border patrol suspicious. Single female? Major RED FLAG. Did she even have a passport? My brother and ex-SIL stopped going to Mexico in 2000 because they got pulled over every time going in and out (Nogales Border). He's a blonde haired Swede and she's Hispanic. They'd be bringing stuff down to her family in Mexico. (Plus the whole cartel/Federales/ Mexican Police)
Don't have a clue about Canada.

Pages, I have a Galaxy tab 8 and 4. Yes, they have a built in keyboard. The tablet is just smaller than a laptop. I have never used a Kindle. I believe it is just for reading. A tablet lets you surf the internet, WS, and other sites if you used it where you have wifi available. So yes, you cause it at home and at your sisters home.

What a nice gift! And the short answer is yes, you can, though it will take some getting used to.

Well, we are talking about JA here, someone with little intelligence. She likely figured she could smile or "sleep" her way through any problems. I don't think she was going across the border though. I think was going to kill again (Mimi, Lisa, the Hughes?) and then go on the run. I guess she thought she could waitress anywhere. She didn't think anything through very well.

Desperate people do stupid things. Scott Peterson was headed to the border with a car loaded with brand new camping gear. Jodi was desperate. She could feel the pressure. Travis's friends were pointing fingers. She knew after she gave her DNA swab it was only matter of time until they matched the blood she left when she cut her hand.

My older son is going to send me a "reader" thingy (he didn't tell me what kind) and asked me for 30 books that I would like to read to "load" in it. I have been resistant to these machines, for years of him asking me if I wanted one, but I surrender now.

I asked him to load these that you may also like to read:

The Stranger Beside Me (Ann Rule)
The Death of Punishment: Searching for Justice Among the Worst of the Worst (Robert Blecker)
September Sacrifice (Mark Homer)
Boy in the Box The Unsolved Case of America's Unknown Child (David Stout)

(these are all Kindle and on Amazon)

I finally watched "The Interview"............don't spend your money on it, watch it when it's free!
(but I'm not a theater goer or much of a pay for view kind of person!)
I put it in the category of "what's silly with this current decade". Like Cheech and Chong movies, "Wayne's World", "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and Jay and Silent Bob.

As I was watching it, I was thinking, yeah, I can see Geraldo Rivera and his brother pulling a stunt like this...

Now for the weather: Yesterday, the low was -1.7, this morning it was 3 degrees. We still have snow on the ground from 3 days ago. Highs will finally get above freezing today and we will be heading towards the 50's by Monday. Oh yeah, this is Arizona. Sun's been out and "snow blindness" abounds!!! Water froze up at my son's for a bit. He's in Portland still, so his roomie, Evie, experienced the old "turn the faucet on, no water" effect for the first time in her life. She hasn't lived here in the area long enough to have experienced the Great Freeze of 1991.

We lost one of our emus, as in it just disappeared, "poof", about 6 days ago, and another one died 2 days ago/old age. Down to 2 now. Far cry from the 14 adults I had at one point in the 15 years I've raised them.

And I'm experiencing the old "what the heck did I do to make my muscles so achy?" syndrome. GAH! Just going and going for the last 2+ weeks, git 'er done, no time to think about lifting with your legs or what was that that just "popped" when I lifted that thing.

I still think winter is for hibernating.

We have had at least 3" of snow today and it's coming down hard now. ( Although snow is pretty when it first falls, I don't like snow anymore :( )
I agree with you about winter and hibernating.

So, where did that emu go???? (do you think Steely Dan stole it?) He ran away from home, maybe?

Ah- aches/pains are not the part of my "getting old is wonderful" thingy, IMO.

Very funny Ytube about aging - "Fritz Coleman NBC4's weathercaster is a Southern California broadcasting icon":

2014 Final Conference on Aging

I've tried posting late yesterday and now this morning - I don't know whether it's my computer or WS!!! :gaah: :gaah: going to try this AGAIN!!!

Good morning all!

What she said! ^^^^^

YESorNO = :yourock: :tyou: for ALL your posts!

snipped by me

Oh no, please do not feel guilty!! :naughty: no, no, no! I believe we ALL love ALL your posts! Please do not stop! :gathering: that's why we're here!

I saw the Interview - lots of swearing, but kind of funny!

Sorry, can't go back and look - but someone said they got a new Kindle for Christmas and wanted some suggestions - how about: Patricia Cornwell, Karin Slaughter, and Kathy Reichs are great books to read!!

Okay - HOPING :dunno: this will post...

have a great day everyone! :seeya:

BBM I'm not going to stop posting! I just need to complain sometimes when there's no one here posting (no one wants to play with me anymore :anguish:  )

I'm having trouble posting also, so it must be WS. :(

Canadian Decepticon Christine Beswick Transforms Gossip into Gospel
Fact Based Reporting by Rob Roman- Pftt

"...This is not about abuse survival. According to her defense, Jodi Arias is a survivor of a sudden, violent conflict. This conflict was brought on by a cyclical abusive relationship. This is not a battered woman’s defense. Arias has never claimed to be a battered woman, or to have battered woman’s syndrome. Alyce LaViolette claimed that, but she meant it in that this relationship fit that pattern – type, not that Arias has any battered woman’s syndrome...

Evidence is being presented by the defense. It’s real and it’s evidence. Jodi Arias has taken accountability for her actions during this trial. Jodi Arias does NOT have a long history of not telling the truth. It was only after the killing that she has a such a history. No evidence to the contrary has been presented...."

Daniel Reisel: The neuroscience of restorative justice

"Daniel Reisel studies the brains of criminal psychopaths (and mice). And he asks a big question: Instead of warehousing these criminals, shouldn't we be using what we know about the brain to help them rehabilitate? Put another way: If the brain can grow new neural pathways after an injury ... could we help the brain re-grow morality?"

Damon Horowitz: Philosophy in prison

"Damon Horowitz teaches philosophy through the Prison University Project, bringing college-level classes to inmates of San Quentin State Prison. In this powerful short talk, he tells the story of an encounter with right and wrong that quickly gets personal."

Oh, and apparently Travis had written of a new girl named Brooke that he was interested in, so she would've been a target too. Poor Jodi, just when she thought she'd sabotaged his relationships with Lisa & Mimi, along comes a new girl to ruin it...:boohoo::boohoo::boohoo:

I love cranes. They spend winters here.

She sounded incredibly shocked when Flores said they found the palm print with the blood mix...."but if I had done this I would have worn gloves....I have boxes of gloves......" <---paraphrased from the interview.

Another one of those crazy CMJA things we'll probably never find out just what she was thinking. "Duh, Jodi."

I'm still flummoxed that there are some people who think this trial is being influenced and covered up by the Mormon Church. In the whole scheme of things, Travis wasn't even a "blip" on the LDS radar. There are literally Millions of LDS members who hold the same or similar Priesthood callings as Travis did. They boast a membership of over 15 million, but that includes unbaptized children (kids that have been "blessed" in the church soon after birth but not baptized at 8 years or older), "jack Mormons", and people who left the church but never bothered to be removed from the membership ie., resignation or excommunication.

But, again, only a defendant and her legal team could make this about Mormonism and not cold blooded murder. A true blue LDS member would not frequent an establishment that promoted the consumption of caffeine (Starbucks), and wouldn't do anything on Sundays that would cause other people to work on the Sabbath. That includes watching television UNLESS it's General Conference. No stopping at a gas station, no going out to eat, etc., etc.
Any clothes that would expose your garments are major no-no's, including 2 piece bathing suits. How many Mormons do you know of that don't follow those tenets? Just about ALL of them.
My gramps, who was in the Arizona Mesa Temple Presidency, drank 3-4 RC colas a day<---------so much for NOT using stimulants like caffeine. That was just one of his least transgressions. He was a Bishop multiple times over, member of the Seventys, and a High Priest. The then President of the Church, Pres. Kimball, bestowed upon him the keys to the Celestial Kingdom: a guarantee that gramps got a free pass to the highest level of Heaven.

If anyone is trying to put Travis on the proverbial LDS pedestal, it's the defense. Because no Mormon truly has all their ducks in a row as far as the doctrine. Putting Travis in that light is just stupid. He was a normal guy who continued to try to follow the teachings of the church, just like every other Mormon.

The defense wants to make it sound like he was striving to be a Prophet and had all these skeletons in his closet. Good grief.

He was suspicious of this new girl as being too good to be true. The thought ran through my head - 'I hope it wasn't Arias using a fake profile'. Could have been anyone, or genuine but I entertained it for a second.
