Morning YESorNo! :seeya: I checked last night (when I got up at 4 am and couldn't sleep) after the program we watched, and went looking for that HBO program that was being discussed. Alas, I have HBO, but I don't have HBO on demand to see it. I'll have to check programming to see if it comes on at another time.

Let me know if you find that HBO program because I don't have HBO and would like to watch it, too.

None of the questions asked of Deanna by the defense have anything to do with mitigating factors for the killer. They are still so off kilter. Deanna was needed to clear up one lie told by secretDefenseWitness#1--that TA ever attacked her, threatened her, called her names, had his knee in her stomach and the other lies written in that affy. All other issues beyond that were simply not relevant. All this "temple" talk and "talking to the bishop and confessing" crap is besides the point. Were I a juror I'd be pizzed that my time was being wasted on all the things that have no bearing on the job I was being asked to do, which is looking at mitigating factors.

Went over to listen today to opening statements of the Aaron Hernandez trial. WHOA! Before court even started, it has been reported that 10 jurors were excused. :thud: That's a first.

10 jurors who had already been sworn in? Or 10 potential jurors?

The DT didn't put up this much fight in the GUILT phase.

Thought the same thing, esp. KN. Wonder what changed. I think he believed that there was 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on the computer so it changed his attitude. IMOO the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 one way or the other doesn't change anything.

ETA: Night will fall is the other show on HBO that was recommended to watch.

BBM: I watched that last night. I may be in the minority, but I think the graphic visuals of war and it's casualties NEED to be up front and center. The "sanitation" of pics and videos coming from areas of conflict since the end of Viet Nam, do a huge disservice to our sense of humanity and outrage. We are adults, we can change the channel if it "disturbs" us. But we should be "disturbed", we should be "disgusted", but we should see the reality of what war is. We need to be reminded of atrocities. And we need to know the facts.

Some may think I'm naive. I don't believe any conflict since WW2 should have involved the US. I believe every conflict since WW2 was all for the various money making machines in and around US government entities and allies. I don't believe any of the war machine has justified these incursions for "humanitarian reasons". Since Viet Nam, call me a cynic.

That was an incredible piece of journalism. I might just buy his book on the DeVault case. (I keep wanting to write DeWalt, like "DeWalt Tools", gah!)

Get your head out of the toolbox, girl! :floorlaugh:

They only needed to ask her one or two questions to get the answer she would give. Could have save a lot of time.

I think that was a mistake by some of the Hernandez tweeters. Pretty sure only one was dismissed (may have been the juror who gave a note to the court. Don't know what happened to the missing/late juror (who may have had "flat tires?" )

Dagnabitt! I just was on the phone with comcast re issues with my "free trial" of HBO and "Night Will Fall" was in it's last 25 minutes. My HBO on demand wasn't working so they reset the cable box so I can see on demand later (30 minutes to reset). YesOrNo, I think it is exclusive to HBO and not on another channel for you to watch. :(

A mother's intuition

Mother knows best? (now what mother would say that about her child- she must've known something was "off" about her, IMO):

Oh yes, both parents in their police interviews knew; their intuitions were spot on. They were caught off guard but truthfully this is what they thought and verbalized out loud very early on. They both acknowledged that something was "wrong" and just knew that Jodi had done the evil deed and probably from behaviors they knew about from her childhood to adulthood (behaviors that they will never reveal). I am sure that Sandy totally regrets the police interviews after her daughter, Jodi Arias, manipulated every single thought her Mother had with her story version. My guess is Jodi began with her Mother and the rest of the family fell into line. Now, of course, daughter Jodi was "abused" because she said so. I still think that Bill Arias, Father, does know deep down. What about Carl, her brother, who never has shown his face in public nor on any social media. I do feel sorry for the family that unfortunately psychopaths/BDP do and can sway their own family and some friends into believing the unbelievable. (JMO)

JA wrote a letter to the judge complaining of KN's performance and requesting another attorney. The judge decided that it would take too long to get another up to speed on this case and refused. Perhaps she also gave KN a 'pep' talk on his responsibilities to his client and he then stepped up his game?

Justices block three Oklahoma executions over drug used

"WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday blocked the next three executions scheduled in Oklahoma pending its review of the state's controversial three-drug cocktail for lethal injections...

The court's order is the latest in a series of actions it has taken on issues relating to the death penalty...."

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/01/28/supreme-court-executions-oklahoma/22476217/

WOW. Surprised the Supreme Court did this. I was following this news after the 1 botched one. The state of OK did use the same cocktail for another prisoner not too long ago and it worked fine this time. I think the main issue with the botched one was they had trouble getting IV into veins.

That state was getting very close to executing quite a few more people. I was surprised at how many the state of OK was planning. Wonder if they are having a competition to be like Texas lately.

This is an interesting issue because without letting states use the new combo of drugs then states have to resort to other means.

I wonder why states cant just use what we do for animals in euthenasia. Never have understood why those drugs wont work.

And I have never understood why states cant just give huge amounts of valium or something first just to knock a person out totally before the other drugs that stop the heart.

This seems so easy and yet it is so hard. I dont understand

Or maybe KN began to realize he was getting rich $$$$ off this trial.
I bet he will be able to retire after this is all over. I would love to know the total bill to the state when all over. The taxpayers should be furious.

Nurmi is milking the system and JSS is not doing much to speed this thing along. Its been incredible how long both trials took. On a case where JA already admitted to kiling him in her first few words to the jury.

I think Nurmi + JA realized it is a WIN-WIN for both of them. Nurmi gets the big bucks and JA stays out of prison as long as possible if he can delay it as much as possible.

This is so frustrating.

The lawyers are definitely not hurrying to get this done. Why should they? As you stated they are getting a great deal of money.

One thing JA complained of in her letter to the court was that KN told her something like ...you can't get your own way by having a temper tantrum. (JA was in meltdown over the sex tape being played iirc) I have thought a tiny bit better of KN ever since I read that. :tantrum:

Yea, it would have been great to be a fly on the wall whenever JA + Nurmi + Wilmcott ever got together to discuss their strategy. LOL

Imagine the "debates" that must have gone on. :)

It's about time - Bel Kaufman (author of Up the Down staircase)

"writer Bel Kaufman reveals what it's like to be 102; the importance of Jewish humor and the humor of her grandfather, famed Yiddish writer Sholom Aleichem; and the secret to living to 102. And what you should bring for her 103rd birthday."

She is groovy! I love, love, love her glasses! She's a hoot.
