The outlets I made DH replace before DD was born, and since the house was a foreclosure, one or two outlets had been kicked in and broken. Didn't want her sticking her little fingers into one. A friend's daughter stuck a barrette/bobby pin into one and got a bad burn.

Ouch! When my son was very young he stuck his Popeye fork into an outlet in our camper .... totally crumpled/melted the plastic handle. Thank goodness for that PLASTIC handle!

Bernina! :slap:. You keep your fingers away from those outlets !

I've been trying very hard to be Buddhist (which I'm not) in my attitude about it and grateful for what I do have/still have but it's been hard- most especially because of the loss of my mother's jewelry. They were the pieces I loved the most, I had way more in value than I knew, and I can't replace them. Feels like I can't keep good jewelry, because every time I do, I get robbed. Twenty years ago I lost my grandmother's pearls...

I know what you mean, and I hope you don't think I was being flippant. It's just that I have lost so many valued possessions over the years (mostly due to theft), that I've learned to be philosophical about those kind of things.

That said, even ten+ years after the fact, I still mourn for my heirloom engagement ring which I had hoped to pass on to my son. The worst part about that is I have a fair idea of who stole it. But since there's nothing I can do about it, I've developed a c'est la vie attitude. Hope you too can move forward without letting these setbacks get to you too much. :)

We have wire shelving like that in the little laundry room. One day our doofus big kitty jumped up on the shelf, knocked something over, which fell onto the lower shelf and brought the whole thing down with a loud crash. Kitty raced upstairs under the bed, and a year later, he still wont go anywhere near the laundry room. Which is nice because he used to like to sleep on the freshly folded warm stuff from the dryer. :cat:

That reminds me of a particle board shelf I once had and used it to hold some stereo components.

Learned a few valuable lessons about Particle Board Shelves.

1-Dont let "Veneer" fool you when buying shelves.
If what you really want is real solid wood shelving, then dont let Veneer fool you. What looks like a nice wooden shelved cabinet may really be just lousy particle board with a smooth Veneer finish top that is glued onto the particle board. Always look at the edges carefully. You can usually tell from the edges if Veneer is glued onto particle board.

Beware though. Sometimes even the edges have Veneer on them.

2-Particle Board can soak up moisture over the years and can cause a disaster. I had stereo components on my shelves and they were doing fine for a few years. The problem was I had the shelves near a window which I would keep open to the screen. On wet days, the moisture would come through the window and over the years, I noticed the shelving starting to dip in the middle until one day when I came home to find the shelves broke at its weakest saggiest point and everything had crashed onto the floor.

I thought someone had broken into the home until I realized the shelves broke on their own from the weight and moisture.

3-Murphy's Law will always mean that particle board shelves always break near the top and crash down through every shelf underneath it. I had 3 broken shelves which started at the top and as the first one broke, it and its weight came crashing into the 2nd one, which then also broke, and then 1+2 crashed into 3 and of course broke it too.

Particle Board shelves will never break just the lowest shelf only. It always starts near the top and involves multiple shelves.

4-This day and age, practically every shelving you go out to buy is made of particle board. Have fun trying to find shelving that is solid wood. And when you finally find it, expect to pay an arm and a leg.
Thats if your arm or leg is not broken when trying to lift the broken shelves out of the house, which teaches us Lesson #5.

5-Particle board weighs 10 X times the weight of normal wood.
As you try to lift it, always be sure the kids are not around as you curse and yell the following:
"Why the he## is this crappy junk so darn heavy?"

Yep, I'm on the SS and theater trial threads also. Understand what you guys mean about the Savopulos thread. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?281030-DC-Savvas-Savopulos-family-amp-Veralicia-Figueroa-murdered-Daron-Wint-Arrested-5/page7 Hope I wasn't the one who came across rude  Yesterday, things were getting snitty and against TOS. So when I couldn't log in for 2 hours, I was thinking they were cleaning up the thread. lo and behold.... during all that screen cap chit I was doing I put my lappy in airplane mode by mistake. Duh duh took me two hours to figure that out :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: I don't think there is an active moderator on that forum perhaps? :giggle:

Well, :escape: to the Holmes trial today while I do housework. I was sitting on my backporch yesterday and hear blam..... blam... crack/break.... blam! Durn pantry wire shelving came down... So up at 7 this am, off to Lowes to get replacement parts for bent supports - and will listen to trial while I take everything out of the pantry, take all the shelving down.... patch, paint... and put back up.

These are the days that I like live streaming so I can just listen to in the background on my lappy (which is no longer in airplane mode lol) while I work.

No, not you or anyone else who posts on this thread. And most people there are equally as nice as people here. There are just a few whom I would consider to be bullies.

But guess what? All I have to do is not go over there! Problem solved! Just wanted to give props to the good people here. I quite appreciate the civility.

For the animal lovers here:

I was driving through Rock Creek Park this afternoon, and just as I was coming out of the park, I saw a young guy coming down the hill in the distance walking two dogs. One was small/medium mutt, the other one looked like a puppy/small whippet. As I got closer, I could see that the medium-sized dog was on a leash, and the smaller dog was ----- a fawn!

The fawn and the dog were obviously having a great time playing together, and the dog-walker looked equally amused. It was so adorable! Traffic got backed up as all of us drivers did a double take. I'm surprised there weren't any fender benders.

So wish I could have gotten a pic!

It took me a week to discover that someone (not I of course) clicked work offline once time.

Hi YES/NO , I vaguely remember seeing them. I do think they were in more than one movie...
Am I old OR what? :drumroll:

Fierce thunder and lightning storms and pouring rain are keeping my dog baby and me awake. There has already been flooding in the surrounding areas, I can't imagine after tonight. I've never seen so much rain for so long, it's been going on for weeks now. Hope everyone is safe .

AN OLD WOMAN WALKED UP AND TIED HER OLD MULE TO THE HITCHING POST.
AS SHE STOOD THERE, BRUSHING SOME OF THE DUST FROM HER FACE AND CLOTHES, A YOUNG GUNSLINGER STEPPED OUT OF THE SALOON WITH A GUN IN ONE HAND AND A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY IN THE OTHER. THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER LOOKED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND LAUGHED, "HEY OLD WOMAN, HAVE YOU EVER DANCED?"

THE OLD WOMAN LOOKED UP AT THE GUNSLINGER AND SAID, "NO,...... I NEVER DID DANCE... NEVER REALLY WANTED TO."

A CROWD HAD GATHERED AS THE GUNSLINGER GRINNED AND SAID "WELL, YOU OLD BAG, YOU'RE GONNA DANCE NOW," AND STARTED SHOOTING AT THE OLD WOMAN'S FEET.

THE OLD WOMAN PROSPECTOR -- NOT WANTING TO GET HER TOE
BLOWN OFF --STARTED HOPPING AROUND. EVERYBODY WAS LAUGHING. WHEN HIS LAST BULLET HAD BEEN FIRED, THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER, STILL LAUGHING, HOLSTERED HIS GUN AND TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK INTO THE SALOON.

THE OLD WOMAN TURNED TO HER PACK MULE, PULLED OUT A DOUBLE-BARRELED SHOTGUN, AND COCKED BOTH HAMMERS.
THE LOUD CLICKS CARRIED CLEARLY THROUGH THE DESERT AIR,
AND THE CROWD STOPPED LAUGHING IMMEDIATELY.

THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER HEARD THE SOUNDS, TOO, AND HE TURNED AROUND VERY SLOWLY. THE SILENCE WAS ALMOST DEAFENING. THE CROWD WATCHED AS THE YOUNG GUNMAN STARED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND THE LARGE GAPING HOLES OF THOSE TWIN BARRELS.

THE BARRELS OF THE SHOTGUN NEVER WAVERED IN THE OLD WOMAN'S HANDS, AS SHE QUIETLY SAID, "SON, HAVE YOU EVER KISSED A MULE'S 🤬🤬🤬?"

THE GUNSLINGER SWALLOWED HARD AND SAID, "NO M'AM... BUT
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO.

THERE ARE A FEW LESSONS HERE FOR ALL OF US:
1 - Never be arrogant.
2 - Don't waste ammunition.
3 - Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.
4 - Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
5 - Don't mess with old women; they didn't get old by being stupid.

TODAY IS THE DAY.... I must step my foot into Wal Mart!! That store is one store I wish I could avoid, but, I have put off and put off going into the 'pit'. Just some things I must buy at Wal Mart. No other store around I can get it from unless I drive 30 miles from here.

Wish me luck and hopefully... I will not turn up on the 'People from Wal Mart" site!

Are those of here here who are getting the massive rains doing OK? Neesaki and Pages ...... anyone else? How are your fur babies managing? Potty time must be awful for them.

Please stay safe, my peeps, and keep us posted. Is there a thread where the Texas rains/flooding are being discussed?

CJ ~ I enjoyed your "did you knows" this morning! The only thing I remember from my Geography class wayyyyy back in grade school is that Missouri also borders 8 states.

I didn't know if anyone really read them and since Y/N is back and she post such 'goodies' I thought about not posting them anymore... I started posting different 'goodies' while she was taking a break from here. Kinda giving us more reading pleasures :) If you like them I will keep on posting....

Spell, It broke my heart reading about those families that were vacationing in a cabin and were swept away by floods. Their dog was found alive in a tree.
Between the floods and all the tornado's, I can't even imagine so much tragedy.

I like!
Between your "did you knows" and Pages history trivia, I am learning so much.

I saw that this morning, but did not know the dog was found. For some reason, that makes me even sadder .... sob.

I cannot imagine having such a disaster in my own country ... it feels so foreign. I know tragedies happen everywhere, but for some reason I want to believe "not here".

Thanks for keeping them going. Even though I dont get to read them all, I do like to be able to read some of them especially when in need for some cheering up. Thank you for doing that for our group.
