EASY and QUICK KITCHEN TIPS

There are many times when you face a problem in the kitchen while cooking. I present before you some very common tips that will make your work easier in the kitchen.

Too Much Salt: If you've added too much salt to a recipe, there are two solutions, (1) add a little sugar. (2) Add a raw potato slice. This will absorb the salt, especially in soups or stews, and (3) a second batch of small quantity can be made, without the salt, and added to the first batch. Combine the two mixtures and freeze half for later.

Too Sweet : Add some salt, or, if the recipe is a vegetable or main dish, a teaspoon of vinegar.

Gravy Too Thick: If your gravy is too thick then add a little more liquid.

Gravy Too Thin: Potato flakes may be added instead of flour to gravy, sauces and stews taht are too thin.

Overdone Vegetables: Put the pot in an pan of cold water. Let it stand from 15 minutes to half an hour without scraping pan.

Fresh Garlic: Peel garlic and store in a covered jar of vegetable oil. The garlic will stay fresh and the oil canl be nicely flavored for salad dressings.

Lemon Juice Tip: When a small amount of lemon juice is needed, insert a skewer into the lemon rind and squeeze juice out. The lemon will stay fresher longer than if it were cut.

Crisp Vegetables:To make your vegetables to remain crisp, cover the crisper section of your refrigerator with newspaper and then use the paper to wrap vegetables. Moisture will be absorbed and your vegetables will stay fresher longer.

Fluffy Rice: Rice will be fluffier and whiter if you add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to each quart of water.

Easily Peeled Tomatoes: Place tomatoes in a bowl, add boiling water and let them stand for one minute. Tomatoes will peel easily with a sharp knife. (this really works, my MILshowed me this trick many years ago) :)

Perfect Noodles: When cooking noodles, bring required amount of water to a boil, add noodles, turn heat off and allow to stand for 30 minutes. This prevents over boiling. You do not need to stir the noodles and the noodles won't stick to the pan with this method.

Nutritious Rice: Cook rice in liquid saved from cooking vegetables to add flavor and nutrition.

Put Baking Soda And Milk Into A Bowl, This Is Incredibly Clever.
Let’s face it, your feet have it rough. In addition to having to carry you everywhere, they get stepped on, stubbed, and crammed into uncomfortable shoes. Then when summer rolls around, we take them out and expect them to look great.

Just one or two pedicures aren’t going to undo a whole year’s worth of wear and tear. Fortunately, there a way to speed up the process, and all you need are a few things lying around the house.

First, get a big bowl, add some milk, and put your feet in to soak. The lactic acid in the milk helps exfoliate dead skin.

Then, take some baking soda, and rub it firmly into your feet. This will help remove the heavier calluses.

The best part is that this only takes a couple of minutes, which means you’re literally minutes away from the soft-feet life you’ve always imagined you could live. Is there anything that backing soda can’t do?

Watch how it’s done!

I was thinking of the Alexander's and some of the posters here when I read this article:

Why Some People Really Do Grow Stronger In The Face Of Tragedy

"...post-traumatic growth (PTG)..."With post-traumatic growth, a person who has faced difficult challenges doesn't just return to baseline, which is what happens with resilience," explains Tedeschi. "They change in fundamental, sometimes dramatic, ways."..

Many trauma survivors more than just accept what happened to them: "They feel it made them better human beings than they would ever have been without it. And it made them wiser and willing to take the risk of being more fully alive.".."

The New Adaptation Of Stephen King's It Is Making Some Major Changes

"...The book hit shelves in 1986 and was adapted in 1990 for a TV miniseries. The time period then was similar enough to when the book was first published that the past and present settings didn't need to be drastically altered. But today's "present" is 25 years from the book's present-day setting, which leads us to wonder if the story will shift the time period and set the present around 2015. Assuming the ages of the characters (past and present) aren't drastically altered, that would put the flashbacks somewhere in the late 1980s. ..."

I love Stephen King :)

I read that longggggggggg book, IT, as fast as I could because I was dying to know what it was that was killing the children.
Great book, but what a letdown that ending was, IMO. :(
The movie wasn't bad. :sheesh:

1868 - First use of tax stamps on cigarettes. Way back years ago, Texas taxed cigarette and liquor, and many complained to our local paper and calling it a sin tax. I was amazed how many were outraged that their children wouldn't be able to have a second bowl of cereal because of it. Not my kids need more food and I get what's left over, if any, to buy cigarette and beer. But my kids are going to go hungry because cigarette and beer are more important to me, and I'll pay the price.

I stopped smoking January20, 1979. Cigarettes went up to forty nine cents a pack and that was it for me. I told God I couldn't do this myself, and I needed Him to help me stop, so I'm down to my last pack on Friday, and Saturday night when I sat down to smoke my last cigarette there was only one left in the pack. My last one , so I smoked it and went to bed. The next morning I didn't want one and I was over and done with it. I wish it was that easy for those that are having a hard time.

July 1969 - The Apollo 11 astronauts made history when the first man is landed on the moon by the United States and Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon leaving the first human footprints in its dusty soil. They raised their nation's flag and talked to their President on earth 240,000 miles away, and the famous words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." was seen and heard by people around the globe

1969 - A car driven by Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy plunged off a narrow wooden bridge into a tidal pond after leaving a party on Chappaquiddick Island , Kennedy escaped the submerged car but his passenger a pretty blonde secretary ( Mary Jo Kopechne )who was riding with him drowned in the accident. Kennedy was later convicted of leaving the scene of an accident.

I am just catching up as I had a very hard time staying logged in. The site just kept buffering and pages would not load. Hope you all are staying cool! It is hot as hades here and as I am heat intolerant, inside with the AC on is my glass of ice tea.

This brought back memories. Mary Jo Kopechne's family lived in Berkeley Heights, NJ and I walked past their house on my way to school. I Was in 6th grade when she was killed and I remember hearing the adults and teachers talking in school.

Fast forward to 1995, I met Senator Kennedy at an event and spoke with him for a very long time. We talked about our mutually deceased brothers and he had tears in his eyes as did I. The raw pain is just the same 30 years later. We spoke of John and Caroline and his children and the effects of homicide on the survivors. Not exactly cocktail party talk, but meaningful. He hugged me and wished me well.

The man I met had lived enough for 10 lifetimes. There was an unspoken understanding, an all too familiar look shared in a fleeting moment. The haunted look we get that others don't see that have not experienced this precise form of loss. I will treasure those 25 minutes forever.

1985 - Christa McAuliffe of New Hampshire was chosen to be the first schoolteacher to ride aboard the space shuttle. She died with six others when the Challenger exploded the following year. Do you remember where you were when it happened?

I remember this vividly. I was working NeuroSurgery ICU 7a -7p at the University of North Carolina and we could see the TVS in the patients rooms. There was dead silence when it blew apart. Very sad and sorrowful day.

I love Allrecipes, I'm on there all the time looking for new recipes, even have my own recipe file, lol. This recipe for crab cakes sounds really good. My problem is we can't really get fresh crab meat here. :( I might find some "fresh frozen". Or even order it. That's usually good, though expensive with shipping costs. My DH and I are always looking for good crab cakes when we venture off into seafood country. Just wish we could do it a little more often. Anyway, let me know how they turn out.
