Do you remember sitting out on the porch after dinner? Waiting for the other kids on the block to finish washing dishes and come out to play.

Hi Spellbound , I gave Molly 1/8th of a teaspoon of Benadryl. She did fine and didn't act scared at all. She did the night before..She is so small.. :seeya:

Cleaning Tips

To clean mirrors and window glass, sprinkle ammonia on a rag and wipe.
Apply a coat of clear nail polish on the cover of the label of medicine bottle. This wont smear the label with medicine spills.
You can brighten up rug colors by using a cloth wrung out of warm water to which ammonia and salt have been added and wiping an old soiled rug.
A paste of vinegar, flour, and salt makes an excellent cleaner for copper, brass, or pewter. Let paste stand 1 hour on the object, wipe off, wash and polish.
If you do not like the objectionable odor of new paint, then place a bucket of water in the freshly painted room.
Rub a bit of furniture wax on a soft cloth and pass it lightly over the writing on the package you must take in the rain to post or mail. Address will not blur.
If you need a wide piece of wax paper, seal two strips together with a hot iron; it cools quickly.
Put a safety pin in a certain corner of the rug before you take it up. In this way you can distribute the wear and know how the rug was laid before.
Put aside an old pair of white gloves and use them for cleaning the slats on your venetian blinds. Slip the gloves on and, with your fingers, you’ll be able to reach every bit of dust.
Rubber tends to darken silverware, so never put anything made of rubber in the silver drawers. Use cord or ribbon to hold silver together–not rubber bands.
To remove the yellow stains from enameled bathtubs and wash basins, wash with salt and turpentine.
White spots on furniture that has been caused by water, hot dishes, or alcohol, may be removed by rubbing the stains with camphorated oil or oil of peppermint.
Wax candles will burn more slowly and for a longer period of time if they are chilled in the icebox several days before they are lighted.
Wrap a strip of adhesive tape around picture frame wire exactly at the center. This will keep the wire from slipping and always hold the picture in place.
One of the best things for polishing mirrors and glass of all sorts after washing is crumpled tissue paper.

Hang rubber gloves with a piece of cellulose tape to a towel rack; this enables the air to get inside for quick drying and they will not stick together.
Put all left-over pieces of soap, either hand or laundry soap, and place in a can. Pour a small amount of water over them and place on back of stove, the soap will melt and form a jelly. This is ideal for washing dishes or clothes.
If you have a brass or metal door knocker, wax it immediately after polishing. This practice will keep it bright.

DID YOU KNOW THIS

Causes of Premature Greying of Hair
While many says that the reasons for premature greying of hair are genetic and hereditary, others say that it is due to stress, malnutrition, lack of vitamins, including pollution.
Washing of hair with hot water and drying them with electric dryers are the other causes of premature graying of hairs.
Other reasons of premature graying of hairs include diseases like anemia, sinusitis, chronic cold, and chronic constipation.
Home Remedies For Premature Greying
There are several home remedies that can be used to prevent greying of hair.
Hair Oil Massage: Massage your scalp with your finger tips regularly using coconut oil / olive oil / mustard oil. This ensure good blood circulation in the scalp. Massaging of the hair should be done 1-2 hours prior to the shampoo. Even if you do not apply hair oil on a daily basis, you can still massage the scalp with the fingers everyday.
Curry Leaves: This is a tradition that is followed by women in South India and that is why we see the South Indian women having thick, long black hair. Curry leaves can either be consumed or they can be used as a hair tonic. Boil coconut oil with some curry leaves. Let the mixture cool, strain the oil, store it in bottle and massaged your scalp with the oil.
Amla / Indian Gooseberry: The Indian gooseberry or amla can be used as a hair oil to maintain the hair's pigmentation as well as to promote hair health growth. Take an amla, dry it out and divide it into pieces. Boil the fruit pieces with coconut oil. Once the amla pieces have turned into the consistency of dust, let it cool. Apply that mixture into the scalp and keep it overnight. You can also mix the Indian gooseberry mixture with a teaspoon of almond oil and lemon juice. Regular application of Indian gooseberry paste on the scalp also reduces greying.
Natural Hair Color for Premature Greying
Rosemary: Rosemary give dark colour a rich glossy shine.
Chamomile: This works great on blonde hair.
Rhubarb root: This brightens and lifts natural colour.
For rich tones: Few drops of acetic acid added to henna one teaspoon of catechu added to the henna for a dark colour.
For brown: Walnut juice mixed with henna. One teaspoon of eucalyptus oil added to henna for a darker brown.
Henna: This is the most natural form of vegetable hair dye.

Henna for Premature Grey Hair
Let us now find out how we can use henna to color your premature grey hair:
Ingredients
Henna powder as per your need
Lemon juice
Curds – 1-2 tbsp
Coffee-powder- 1tsp (optional)
Tea leaves – 1 tsp
Amla (gooseberry) powder – 2 tsp
Mustard oil – ½ tsp
Cloves (optional)
Method:
Soak amla powder in half a cup of water overnight. Boil 1 tsp tea leaves in 2 tbsp water. Sieve it and allow it to cool. Now take henna powder, around 4-5 tbsp if you want to apply it only around the area which has gray hair and more if you want to apply to your entire scalp. Make a thin paste of henna powder by adding juice of lemon, a tbsp of curd, the water of tea leaves, a tsp of coffee powder (optional) and amla mixture which you prepared earlier. Add ½ tsp of mustard oil in this mixture to avoid dryness. Leave this mixture in an iron vessel overnight or for about 2 hours. If it is winter, you can also add a finely grounded paste of 2 cloves to elude cold. Apply the mixture on the hair carefully, cover gray hair completely. Leave this on for about 3-4 hours. Then rinse off with cold water.
After henna application
After your hair has dried, apply any hair oil. Wash your hair the next day with a mild shampoo. Your hair will show a natural shining red-brown color. Do this twice a month on a regular basis.
Natural Hair Conditioner
A natural hair conditioner can also be prepared at home. Soaking 10 to 12 Indian gooseberry in a cup of water overnight. Pour some of this mixture in your hair after shampooing and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing it.
You can also rinse your hair with a cup of strong black tea or even espresso. It can work wonders on your hair and leaving it looking black and shiny.
Other Home Remedies
Diet: Diet plays a major part in the prevention of grey hairs. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables like banana, carrot, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, cauliflower, cereals, yogurts, seafood, etc. Curry leaves are good. Drink butter milk. You should also include red meat, chicken, fish, dried apricots, eggs, parsley, sunflower seed, seafood, almonds and cashew nuts in your diet. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday.
Daily morning intake of few black raisins with same amount of black pepper with hot milk is also beneficial for treating grey hair.
Homeopathic Arnica oil is proven beneficial for treating as well preventing early grey hair.

And I'll keep my gray hair!! LOL! I have a "patch" of gray hair on my right side temple, just like my father had! And of course, my sister is completely gray from her chemo... her twin is a salt and pepper!

Also, coffeejunkie - I skip all your "cleaning" stuff! I don't do housework! well, once in awhile...

I've got 2 peafowl eggs this morning, Saturday I'm going to plug in the incubator.....28 days and hopefully some peachicks!!!!
Peahens lay every 3 days, the lay in the early evening. A small bag of cat food put in their feeder at the beginning of breeding season stimulates their egg chain (I don't know the mechanics of it, just what my dad did. My peafowl were over 2 months late in laying, put the dry cat food in a week ago, and voila!)
Peachicks hatch with flight feathers and can fly up and roost with mom within 36 hours.
Peahen don't make nests, they're a real "git 'er done", no fuss, no muss, kind of bird.
I currently have a trio of purple, 2 blue hens, a white hen and a cameo hen. Hoping to get at least one male out of the chicks.........always good to have a back up.
Hope their fertility is better than those darn swans!

Oh - forgot to mention...

It's Chocolate Day!!

HAPPY CHOCOLATE DAY EVERYONE!!

Dig in!!

I need this- especially because now I'm in a stupid fight with someone I don't even know on Facebook. She is the admin of a "reminiscent" site page on FB of where you grew up. She refuses to add several of my friends because she claims she can't personally verify they grew up there. So what? Just because they didn't list their hometown doesn't mean I don't personally know them. She seems to think I would have reason to lie about it. WHY would I do that??? She's also passive-aggressive about how many people she'll let you add at once. She's not the only game in town, yet she seems to make it her life's mission to verify people, then claims how overwhelmed she is. GRRRRR!!! I haven't had this problem with any other site. I even offered to send her yearbook pictures of them, and she didn't want that as proof either, only if a person lists their hometown. How exactly does that prevent a person from lying??

On the homefront: the County Fair is over, DD did 5 shows on 4 days. Some home improvements have happened, but not as fast as I would like- at a standstill right now. We got a safe & bolted it down, had a burglar alarm installed, move most of the furniture out of the den, but the walls still aren't prepped, so we haven't painted yet, and put up samples, but still finalizing color (shade of green). And DH decided we also need to rip out the carpeting. Didn't get back to getting rid of hedge or finishing planter box outside the fence. French Doors are still on order. Have repurchased laptops and some jewelry. Waiting on others...

I only think of the Hoover Dam and Jodi going over it several hours after she'd killed Travis.

I am printing out the cleaning posts lol. I have taken the wonderful advice from my cleaning gurus here and applied it where I can. YoNo told me to use a tooth brush in the crevices, instead of the scrub brush that I was trying to use which was too big. EUREKA!!!! An piece of molding inside my front door was discolored and after I looked further, it was wet! I had thought it was just a lot of dirt. Water is coming in the bottom of the front door somehow. It is a new door so maybe something got messed up on installation.

See! This is what happens when you clean. You find things that are problems and I was just happy before thinking it was dirt, when it isn't and probably something not good. EXCUSE #973.

19 WAYS TO CREATE GOOD KARMA

As the blazing fire reduces wood to ashes, similarly, the fire of Self-knowledge reduces all Karma to ashes. ~ Bhagavad Gita

1. Hang this message near your night stand: It’s not just about what yoga gives to me, but what I give to the world

2. For one whole day, forget about expectations. Greet everyone with compassion. Have no attachment to their reaction.

3. Wear everything in your closet. Give away everything you don’t (and don’t buy more). The rule is, if you haven’t worn it in the past year (okay, depending on the seasons), you’re not going to wear it this year. Don’t hold onto those jeans from when you were nineteen. It may not happen again in this lifetime—it doesn’t matter—you are never more perfect than you are right now.

4. Pick up litter in your neighborhood. It’s good exercise, it’s good for everyone and it’s contagious! Make it a point to pick up a piece everyday! Give homage to our dear Earth who has carried us everyday of our existence.

5. Do something creative with a youngling. Paint, draw, make sock puppets, role play (yep, I said it), read out loud or simply enjoy their company. Help them to control the force and wield a lightsaber!

6. Make someone an offer they can’t refuse. A foot rub, hand massage, lend an ear, a shoulder or give a great big bear hug for no good reason.

7. Pray. Pray for every single living creature on the planet. Do it now, do it every time you remember.

8. Don’t tell lies. For one entire day, or as long as you can do it, do not utter a single white lie.

9. Appreciate nature. Go for a walk in the park. Take your time. Sit on a bench. Enjoy the flow and movement of all that coexists. It’s magic. There’s more to it than we imagine.

10. Spread the word. Memorize a profound quote, a mantra or poem. Share it with someone you love (this includes pets). And, don’t forget plants—give them some heart-felt attention, talk to them while you water.

11. Go vegan for 24-hours. Eat nothing that comes from an animal for one entire day (or the rest of your life!). Think of the suffering that animals go through before reaching our plates.

12. Give a special twinkle to everyone over 60. Of course acknowledging and smiling at everyone is the ideal way to go but, go on, make it a point to send some extra loving vibes and compassion to our local oldie but goodies.

13. Don’t start any fights. For an entire day, or as often as you can, surrender and lay down your sword. Treat every potentially volatile situation with complete compassion and patience and allow your inner voice of reason to be your guide. This includes thoughts when driving! No road rage!

14. Get out of bed in a good mood. Never again wake up on the wrong side of the bed. If you do, don’t take it seriously. Look in the mirror, smile and remind yourself that it’s great to be alive.

15. Get labeled a good-deed-doer. Be a service to others, volunteer locally, be good neighbors, be loving to your children’s friends and always allow your heart to be vast and spacious. There’s room for everyone and everything.

16. Don’t turn a blind eye. See someone in distress or that needs help, offer a compassionate hand.

17. Deal with your issues. Deal with your own ***** and honor your mistakes. Own up to everything and don’t pass your crap on to your children, spouse, partner, colleagues or anyone you come into contact with. Stop the vicious cycle!

18. Don’t avoid anyone. Answer your phone. Answer your door. Make eye contact and hold your head up. No shields. Be open to others.

19. Believe in the process. The process of yoga, life, your creative expression, your individual interpretation, your strength, your magic and all the peace that resides within.

FAV DESSERT!! Grandma would make me this all the time :)

Dessert Classic: Peach Cobbler

Nothing beats the cinnamon-y smell of peach cobbler baking in the oven – and this recipe will fill your kitchen with the same lovely aroma.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to cobbler – some like a lot of topping, some only like a little; some like it super sweet, others not so much. The great thing about this recipe is that you can adjust it to meet your liking – if you love the biscuit-like topping, then double the ingredients for the topping.

How is a cobbler different from a crumble or pie? Well, a pie comes baked in a shell and a crumble typically calls on oatmeal. The cobbler sets itself apart by covering the top with a batter-like or biscuit-like crust, and this cobbler recipe works for tons of different fruits. Swap out peaches for blackberries, blueberries, or whatever fruit you’d like.

Served with vanilla ice cream, peach cobbler is the perfect summer treat.

Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

For the filling:
•8 fresh peaches (peeled, pitted, and sliced into chunks)
•3 tablespoons white sugar
•3 tablespoons brown sugar
•1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
•1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
•1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
•1 tablespoon cornstarch

For the topping:
•1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
•3 tablespoon white sugar
•1/4 cup brown sugar
•1/2 teaspoon baking powder
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
•1/4 cup boiling water

To sprinkle on top:

•1 tablespoon white sugar
•1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
1.Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
2.Peel the peaches with a knife or peeler, or drop the peaches one-by-one in boiling water for about a minute. Then, take each one out and put it into a bowl of ice water for about a minute. The skins should slide off pretty easily if the peaches are ripe.
3.In a large bowl, combine the first list of ingredients (peaches, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, cornstarch). Toss everything together so the peaches are coated evenly, then put the mixture into a greased two-quart (8x8) baking dish and bake in the oven for ten minutes.
4.In another large bowl, combine some of the ingredients from the second list – flour, white sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use your fingertips to blend the butter into the mixture – or use a pastry blender – until the mixture looks like coarse meal. Then, stir in the water until just combined.
5.Take the peaches out of the oven and drop spoonfuls of the topping over them. Sprinkle the entire cobbler with the sugar and cinnamon.
6.Bake the cobbler for about 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden.
7.Enjoy!
