I am reading "the life-changing magic of tidying up" by Marie Kindo. It is on the New York Times bestseller list and about the "Japanese art of decluttering and organizing. I have been very inspired by y'all. :)

I got rid of some clutter this past week. My son's girlfriend was interesting in some of my stuff and I gave the stuff to her- 2 big boxes. In addition,
she's interested in my grandfather clock, an end table, and a barrister bookcase, too. She didn't have room their the truck for the furniture because she stopped by
to see her father and took some furniture from him
I told her she couldn't have the bookcase- she has to wait 'til I die. :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
I hope she wants more "stuff" the next time they visit.

DH and I had made a trip to the local Menards Store and bought a de-humidifier for the basement. The ground is so full of water from all the rains and the humidity is so high!! The humidity was 78 in the basement and 69 upstairs. The years weather is unbelievable!

On the bright side, we stopped at Donut Bank and had donuts and coffee :) Yummy!! Love their cinnamon rolls...

I'm giving Kondo's tidying up method a go, so please wish me luck. I have to say, I've gone through one large drawer and discarded about half of it's contents. That said, I also find the "does it spark joy?" part to be somewhat of a challenge. Because none of the stuff in this drawer, not one single item did that, lol. FWIW, it's mostly work out gear- stretch pants, tights and shorts, and none of them gave me a spark of joy, they are just practical, comfy work out clothes. Sheesh, I can't discard everything, lol. So I guess I must be missing something. :abnormal:
Well, hopefully I'll find some joy in another drawer, or at least in my hang-ups... I'd sure hate to end up with a virtually empty closet. :giggle: Is anyone else doing this tidying thing besides me ? If so, could you tell me how to go about finding some "joy" in my stuff? :o
ETA: Maybe I'm approaching this tidying and joy thing all wrong. After all, the less items I have to fold and put back the better, right?

cj ~ That sounds great to me! I would love to meet up with you!

But first I have/NEED to get over this very rough patch in my life right now...unless you want to see a grown woman continuously cry. It aint pretty

I'm not doing it, but I really need to...BAD
I do know that it would definitely spark some joy in my life if I was to come home and my house would be totally cleaned up and clutter free (while I was gone, of course)
Where is Samantha Stephens when you need her ?

What is Kondo's tidying up method ? Not that I'll do it, but...if one were inclined to ?

I can't recall who posted here earlier about her book, but here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Life-Changing-Magic-Tidying-Decluttering/dp/1607747308 I haven't actually read the book, just tips taken from it from miscellaneous articles and websites. I should probably order the book, maybe it would help me out a little, heaven knows I need all the help I can get, lol. This stuff is just monotonous and overwhelming to me. Have only gotten through one drawer and am ready to quit. :sheesh:

My joy from cleaning out drawers and closets comes from having more space to put new junk and clutter!

"Joy" doesn't have to be all jubilation and ecstacy, IMO. It could mean a sort of "appreciation" instead? So you work out, wear your work out clothes, and appreciate that these articles of clothing you wear to perform your exercise keep you covered, cool, supple (as able to move), whatever, so therefore they give you some semblance of a sort of "joy".

How about that?

Not everything gives "joy", IMO. Some things are "needs"- like tampons or hemorrhoid gel.
So do you get rid of a box of tampons because you have 3 boxes instead of 1? No. But maybe if you had 50 boxes?

Do you have 50 workout outfits or just 3 in that drawer? Do they fit, feel good when you are exercising? Good enough, IMO... :) And anyway- you are exercising (something I don't do:facepalm:) and that is a joy because you are able to exercise (some can't or don't) to feel healthy, therefore.....

and there you go- your exercise clothes are "joyful".

Too convoluted reasons??? :scared: I'm trying for a reasonable answer for you. :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:
