I have twelve french doors sitting on the back deck, so dh can enclose my front porch, which I don't want, it was something I mentioned a long long time ago, and would rather have the back deck enclosed, so we're t a standstill.

I love crab cakes, and those looked wonderful. I think the first person I saw make them was Justin Wilson, way back on his cooking show in the 80'? Of course he thought everything tasted better with a few glasses of wine. The best fish I've ever had was in Calabash, North Carolina was fresh flounder right out of the ocean. We drove there when we spent a week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Calabash is most famous, and rightly so, for the delicately seasoned, lightly breaded and fried, incredibly fresh seafood that shares its name. It's been a town staple since 1940, when Lucy High Coleman opened The Original, the, well, original Calabash-style restaurant.

BBM My husband loved to watch Justin Wilson's cooking show "Cajun Cooking" and hear him tell his jokes/stories.

"Litle mo' wiine. an' a lil' mo wiine, an' a lill' mo wiine." :hilarious:

The best fish I had was on Cape Cod- a scrod sandwich- lightly breaded on a toasted roll. It was fresh from the sea and so delicate, it melted in my mouth. Just a
squirt of lemon- that's all it needed. Yummy :)
My husband had a lobster roll- he's a lobster fool. Once he ate 3 lobsters at one sitting at Lobster-in-the-Rough on the cape.
We had rented bikes to ride around the Cape and we stopped for lunch at a small shack by the sea- that had outside tables. Don't remember where and what the
name of the place was :sheesh: It was so long ago, but the memory of that fish sandwich stays in my memory forever. :)

One day on the Cape, for breakfast, we stopped at an Irish restaurant and I was introduced to blood pudding (or black pudding). I was surprised that it was very tasty.

(those little black things on the left are blood pudding)

While we were in Cape Cod, my husband had me taste snails in garlic, butter sauce- ugh- disgusting :scared: (they were very rubbery)

Thanks! Farmer's Insurance paid for them, since I couldn't recover all the jewelry I lost. I love them, even though they are only primed and still need painting. They just class up my family room so much! It looks like a whole different house. I had this cruddy old frame on the sliding glass doors that was 40 years old and you'd have to fight it to latch it closed. For the last two months since the break-in, I've had to live with a plywood door there. I just sit here and keep taking pictures of my new doors, DH thinks I'm nuts. For the first time in a long time, I'm really happy- now if we could just get our den painted, and get all the furniture out of the rest of the house I'd be good.View attachment 78549

CJ, good luck with your tooth extraction! So glad your husband is calling his doctor's office. The RN there should be able to help him. I don't blame him from wanting to stay out of the ER and I worked in one :).

Well, it turns out my kitchen will just have to wait. I hired a nice young man, former military with a young family, to pressure wash the siding and paint the soffits and fascia, clean the gutters. Well, the soffits and fascia have to be replaced along with some of the 2x6 areas under the roof edge. It is a 25 yo roof and needs to be replaced too no doubt. It is one of those evergreen problems.

Carpenter ants were in one section and hornets in another. I expect to find carpenter bees or sharks around the corner. I can't wait... I get so stressed out with all this as it mushrooms IYKWIM.

The weather is so lovely today, with low humidity and bright sunshine. If the El Niño projections are true, it sounds like the winter won't be bad in the Mid Atlantic. That would be lovely and I hope California gets the rain.

I will be out of commission for a few day...Oral surgeon called and I'm going tomorrow at 7:45am and have my molar that broke off to the gum surgically extracted, instead of the date they gave me. The only can give me locals for the extraction and I sure hope the numb me up good! The only pain meds I can take are Tylenol (unless in a hospital setting). Wish me luck and send good thoughts my way :)

Hope see everyone in a few day...Take care and be happy :) :)

Sweet coffee, I will be thinking of you. Have plenty of ice ready for afterward... it will make a huge difference. You will be missed until we hear from you. Wishing you no problems and a speedy recovery. Good luck.

Zuri, I know all about how one project turns into a major Merry-go-round of snafus. This needs repairs, but this has to be first, and then that falls apart and .... the money runs out. Whew..... I don't envy you. But we have a project we keep putting off that is going to be one of those. In this almost-150 year old house what starts out simple always becomes massive.

Sharks? I hope you are joking .... do you have a pool? Can sharks get in it? Oh dear, I hope not. :giggle: The snakes would be my terrifier. Keep a shovel handy!

In Texas they say' "Friends don't let friends drive Fords." Found On Road Deserted - Fix Or Repair Daily - yeah we're sick down here.

Zuri, I totally understand your tornado remark and am not offended at all. It's been a prayer of mine for a long time. I thought a fire when all of us are out of the house, including all pets, would be nice. Other than photo's of loved one, I'd not miss much, and I'd get to rebuild an eighty five year old house.

A scientist who studies psychopaths found out he was one by accident — and it completely changed his life

"...Around 2005, Fallon started to notice a pattern in the scans of some of the criminals who were thought to be psychopaths, which led him to develop a theory: All of them appeared to have low levels of activity in a region of the brain located towards its center at the base of the frontal and temporal lobes. Scientists believe this region, called the orbital cortex, is involved in regulating our emotions and impulses and also plays a role in morality and aggression...

A little poem: :)
---------------------------------------------------------

Today

May all of his tomorrows offer the promise of the joy of immortality, to one who so enjoyed mortality.
Today And if tomorrow shall be sad
Or never come at all, I've had
At least today!
This little strip of light
'Twixt night and night
Let me keep bright
Today!
And let no shadow of tomorrow,
Nor sorrow from the dead yesterday,
Gainsay my happiness today!
And if tomorrow shall be sad
Or never come at all! I've had
At least,
Today!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Seuss’ ‘What Pet Should I Get?’

"...At the time that profile appeared, the pages of a nearly finished picture book called “What Pet Should I Get?” were probably sitting in Dr. *Seuss’ files at his home in La Jolla, Calif. It was never released in Geisel’s lifetime, but now, more than two decades after his death in 1991, “What Pet Should I Get?” is being published. It’s happy news — first, because the book is, if not top-flight Seuss, a very good example of his particular genius for distilling both the spirit of his times and the timeless mind-set of children..."

The "Mockingbird" That Might Have Hatched -- But Didn't. A review of "Go Set a Watchman"

"...So, let's set the record straight: "Go Set a Watchman" is not a sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird." It is an earlier version of what would become the book that so many millions of us read first in middle school and then reread as adults...

So I was among the millions who dove into "Go Set a Watchman" on Tuesday night, the day the novel went on sale. Should you dive in now? My short answer is, "Why not?" It is an apprentice work, its principal problem being that nothing happens -- more on that in a moment. Read it as the early, rejected book that Harper Lee would retool completely into her Pulitzer Prize winner. Do not read it as a sequel or even as a book that would have been published, I imagine, if "To Kill a Mockingbird" did not exist...

My sense, however, is that a decade from now we will look back at "Go Set a Watchman" as a footnote, and it will be read solely to see how a great novelist revised a great novel."

----------------------

It's Time to Go Set a Watchman

"...And what is that truth?

That becoming an adult means recognizing the humanity in those you love most, and in that recognition, realizing that their reality does not have to be your reality anymore. And if you can stand still in that recognition, you might find that you love them, despite their realities, despite their mistakes, despite their pasts that trigger you most.
I am grateful to Harper Lee for finally publishing Go Set a Watchman because I needed Atticus Finch to fall from his pedestal. It's all well and good to love the Pas the Romeos and the Bambi's dads of the literary world but when it comes down to it, it's more fun to fall in love with someone human..."

Passing through..........
Just picked up a new addition to the "farm". Only have 2 female emus right now, so my buddie with the emu ranch held on to a young male for me (crossing fingers that it is a male, he might have been mistaken for another one!)
Going to call him Rufus, kind of looks like a Rufus.
The girls really don't know what to think about him, and the chickens are totally freaked out.

Bernina, Rufus sure looks like a Rufus! I did not know you had emus. Always a fun time around your farm. I don't know how you do it all, but I am envious.

Coffeejunkie, I have been thinking of you all day. I sure hope you had no complications and are resting comfortably at home. Sending hugs and healing your way.
