Zimbabwe to U.S.: Extradite dentist over killing of Cecil the lion

Dentist who shot Cecil the lion wanted to kill elephant next, guide says :(

There used to be valid reasons for hunting animals. Food, clothing and shelter. It was for survival. Now-a-days it just seems mean.

And is really hunting if the animals can't shoot back at you?

duck_hunting1w.jpg

I hope that dentist gets what he has coming to him. And if those 180,000 hunters who invade Africa every year want to shoot and kill animals simply for the sport of it, how about having them do it on the Serengeti during the annual mass migration. No shelter. No Jeeps to drive away from danger in. Let's see a reality series about that.

Probably an over-reaction by me, but I just don't have a rational, logical, lucid argument against shooting at animals simply for the sport of it.

Niner, I am impressed with your DH's approach. Very smart on his part.

CJ, I have really enjoyed all those tips you post and have implemented several. I now use deodorant everywhere your tips suggested lol.

Dmacky, I hope your daughter feels better. Vertigo is very annoying.

Dmacky, unfortunately I'm in a hurry and can't go back so the posts re vertigo. But I wanted to let you know that I once had a vertigo problem - vertigo that woke me up in the middle of the night when I changed my sleeping position. It took an endless time of investigation and finally they found out that it was a virus in the inner ear. Cristals had moved... they did a kind of manipulation me sitting on a bed, feet hanging down towards the floor, they pushed me with the torso on the right side (right ear on bed) and the the opposite... in order to push the cristals back in the right place.
During this exercice, the doc was wearing (or was it me) special glasses and analyzed my eyes.
This helped but patience was necessary.
May be this can help you... Sorry for the poor description!
Summer is a special period for me - after Corsica, the Black Forest with my parents I'm heading to Slovenia now for a 1 week kayak training.

I miss you a lot and hope all of you are doing well. This SB is a wonderful space with so precious people always here to listen and help.
Thank you all very much!!!

Just venting here:

I get up this morning, getting my coffee, feeding the dogs, and my BF hands me a 3" inch nail saying he pulled it out of Zuri's leg.

LIKE, WTF.
He doesn't know where it went in, other then the back of her back leg, or at what angle.

What does he not understand about "DO NOT TOUCH MY HORSES"?!?!?!?!

So Zuri has seepage that has dried on the rear of her pastern, it's hot and swollen, the nail is discolored a good 1 1/2 inches, and I can't find the puncture. Poured iodine on it, like what are you going to do, and have the vet coming out this afternoon as soon as he deals with a colicked horse and 2 patients waiting at the equine center..

I hope it didn't penetrate the joint, but it definitely hit one, if not both flexor tendons.
Seriously, I don't know if I or my animals are going to survive BF's mental deterioration. How many more signs and post it notes do I need to put up?

:gaah: :gaah: :gaah: :gaah:

Last week he was annoying Poquita and she slashed his hand, 4 stitches.:truce:

Oh no! It was good that he saw it, but perhaps should have called you immediately to go down? I have had my share of equine puncture wounds and they are not fun. Antibiotics, chlorhexadine/betadine irrigations while trying to make them stand still. I used MTG, furazone, Epsom salt, saline and whatever else I could find at Dover Saddlery to help. My daughter spent countless hours soaking and irrigating the affected area. I am so sorry you have to go through this.

Punctures into the bone are a pain to treat as well as serious. I really hope Zuri recovers from this quickly. Where on earth did she do this? Fence? My gelding, Knox, jumped a 4' fence out of the pasture and into an ajacent area not meant for horses, surrounded by chain link fence where the grass was greener... Nailed his back right pastern. Yet another huge vet bill to get him healed.

I swear horses will find a way to hurt themselves on the most obscure things. They have a knack for finding the one protruding nail. Please let us know what the vet says. Prayers and hugs sent.

The granite people are coming to template my countertops on Monday and remove the old white Formica ones. I can't believe I am finally coming into the 21st Century and I will finally have lovely countertops. Except now I have to move/clean up/organize the kitchen and get rid of all my painting supplies off the countertops. This should take me all day pretty much. DH is working and so I will only do what I can without his muscle.

DH is off this coming week and doesn't want to spend his vacation time working on the house, so I will be a "river widow" again as he wants to spend time down on the Sassafras River. He is so tired I think it will be good for him to get away and relax. He works 90 hours a week and just needs a break.

Morning Kids!

I'm LOLing here Zuri - just watched a commercial for "Angie's List" and a lady was admiring her new granite counter tops!

Susza - have FUN kayaking! I always wanted to do that, but I don't swim... looks like fun!! and YES! we need pictures!
:happydance:

ILikeToBendPages - glad to hear that Lily is doing good!! or is that well?? My Huz always corrects me on that... but of course, English is my third language...

Well... it's going to be a lovely day here in the foothills! :summer: Just finished watering all our flowers, as the Huz could not walk yesterday, so had to cancel his heart doctor's appointment - a new one has been made. I don't know what do for him... :waitasec: he is NOT getting better; hopefully, maybe, the physical therapy will help him some - he's going to start that next week. He just moans and groans as he sits next to me watching a movie last night. And of course - no home cooked meals... :gaah: Our roommate last night bought take out Chinese, so I am good for two more nights of food! Huz barely eats, as he is still throwing up in the mornings... Ritz crackers and Saltines... and water is about as much he has eaten in the last week or so. What to do??!!! He's already talking about killing himself if this does not get better... he was doing that in 2011 when his liver, kidneys and heart were giving out! Started a carbon monoxide thingy to help him die.... :scared: He does not want to live life like this, and I don't blame him, but he's too young to go!! ?????????

Okay - off to read some of my other threads. :pcguru:

Talk with you all later! :seeya:

ETA - I'm the only one here... :tears:

I have no idea where she got it. Our fencing is all t-posts and field fence.
It's the type of nail you use to frame 2 x 4's. Aurgh.

Here's the x-ray on my foot, if your DH wants to check it out, the marks are on either side of the break, and you can see an additional break on the bone next to it:

And......WOOT! Vet just called, they're on their way! Will post back when he finishes up! Fingers crossed!!!

:wave:Not DMacky, it's my daughter who has the Vertigo. She was still dizzy last night, but had a much better day in general, so hopefully today is the last of it. Dr. decided it wasn't a virus, but a combination of heat sickness, dehydration, anemia, and electrolyte imbalance. He tested her ears for fluid and found none. Thanks for your response though, helped me understand about the crystals- another poster had mentioned them as well.

Oh Niner, my heart goes out to you and your poor husband. It sounds like he's going through a really tough time.

I think we can all kind of relate to what he's feeling. Hasn't everyone at some point been so sick or injured that you just want to throw in the towel? It's so easy to forget that those are temporary states of reality; it can feel as though your life has been permanently redefined against your will. When everything is going fine, it's easy to live in the present, and also mentally project into the future. But when you feel like crap, the present seems inescapable and the future feels nonexistent.

I hope you can cheer him up with talk about plans for what you can do together once this :temporary: situation is resolved. Give him something to look forward to. Anything to get his mind off what he's going through at this moment. Or maybe even some funny pet videos (always a good Rx, IMO).

He seems like a truly wonderful guy, so I am wishing him a speedy recovery, and both of you a long and happy future together. :)

Ouch, looks painful! I broke both bones in my ankle about 10 years ago.

The nail just missed the joint :happydance:, basically penetrated the tendon sheath and a good puncture path of apprx. 1 1/2 inches.

Doc tranque'd, Tetanused, clipped the area, ran contrast dye, shot images, then helped me with the first 2 oz. betadine flush (2x@ day), wrapped it with *PINK* vet wrap , a shot of Exede and Banamine.
And Zuri was a STAR!!!! Zuri, I am soooo glad I named her "Zuri", it just fits her so well. Beautiful personality, temperament, and just over all........."beautiful". This vet (who I love dearly) hasn't been able to come out here for any calls since our Percheron breached about 6 years ago, either tied up, a majorly broken leg for months, or not on call. Once again, he said he just loves working with my horses because they are so chilled out and well mannered. He was totally surprised at the ease the whole visit was. He once again, gave me his home number if I needed some help with any flushing........even after I told him I've got it covered, lol!
So the waiting begins......... just have to keep an eye out for infection. The vet will be back Tuesday to do the first follow-up. No playing tag with the wuffs or emu, Zuri has to chill out on that leg.

I had another choice to take her to the Equine Center and have them sedate her and open her pastern up, weighing the risks, I chose the other route. She would not have done well being at the Center without one of her buddies, wuff or otherwise, and it risked further damage to her tendon, and healing up a much larger area with stitches, no less.

Poquita was very concerned throughout and kept reassuring her by licking her muzzle just like she did when Zuri was born.

........and I'm kinda scared, just hoping it all turns out ok.:scared:
