Back in the horse and buggy days, the residents in Charleston came to Summerville in their buggy's which took all day as it was just a tad cooler here. They had summer cottages. Love it here, reminds me of Savannah where I grew up.

Oh I'll still probably lose power and cable service, just no flooding. LOL

Did anyone else catch Obama's press conference today?

I thought his words about the Pope were right on. If Kim Davis and her people had any conscience or were at all open-minded, they would be ashamed of how they politicized the pontiff's visit for their own gain.

Here are some excerpts:

"He’s consistently prodding people’s consciences …asking everybody all across the political spectrum what more you can do to be kind and to be helpful and to love and to sacrifice and to serve,'' Obama said.

“In that sense, I don’t think he’s somebody where we should be applying the typical American political measures,” Obama said. “The humility that he brings to this, his rejection of the absolutism that says I’m 100% right, you’re 100% wrong but rather we are all sinners and we are all children of god -- and that’s a pretty good starting point for being better.”

Amen.

She is not even Catholic and her beliefs' frown upon the Catholics because they do not believe like her church does (again, shame on her)! She is what we called 'Holy-Rollers' when I was a kid. Now that church would scare us. We would sneak under the windows of the church when they had their services and watch and listen...then run like the devil himself was after us! :giggle:

Holocaust Survivor Shares Amazing Story Of Kindness In A Concentration Camp

"Though the Holocaust was full of unimagineable horrors, a touching story from a concentration camp survivor shows that the kindness of the human spirit was never lost among the prisoners.

In a clip from the documentary film, "HUMAN," 82-year-old Holocaust survivor Francine Christophe tells how she reaped a priceless reward for a small act of kindness as a child, decades later..."

Why It Was Easier to Be Skinny in the 1980s

"A new study finds that people today who eat and exercise the same amount as people 20 years ago are still fatter...

They found a very surprising correlation: A given person, in 2006, eating the same amount of calories, taking in the same quantities of macronutrients like protein and fat, and exercising the same amount as a person of the same age did in 1988 would have a BMI that was about 2.3 points higher. In other words, people today are about 10 percent heavier than people were in the 1980s, even if they follow the exact same diet and exercise plans..."

My beautiful Sidebar Friends! I have finally had a chance to catch up on most of the posts this morning and how I have missed you all. The most prominent underlying feeling I got from all of them was the love, care, friendship and compassion amongst a group of people who genuinely care. I found These sentiments were actually more profound than the subject matter. How lucky are we to have found each other. Here.

Niner, first and foremost, I hope your husband continues to get the work up he needs. I did not say much after you presented his symptoms and reactions to meds as I had a gut feeling this was not a simple case. I hope they continue to figure out the "zebra" they need to find. "Zebra" is used when the answer is harder to find. I totally understand his "attitude" as I just saw it in me. Fear. No control. Fear. And I don't blame him one bit. The medical system is hard enough to maneuver when you know how it works. I just can't imagine your frustration..

Jasper, I am concerned about you. Biopsies without conclusive results mean they aren't "digging" in the right area? Like it could be this or could be that type of thing? That is off my patience meter and I hope you can find some resolution quickly (as in sooner than 3 years) to your pain and symptoms. I want to make house calls I swear and some of these people a piece of my mind. However, I think I did that while I was in the hospital and it didn't turn out so well....

Please feel better my beautiful friend.

Bernina, my darling. Your BF is so lucky to have such a stable force in his life. From what you have described over the last 2 years, exacerbations seem to come and go. The triggers are either new or disguised and the frustration mounts as you have a good period of time, only to be whacked by a bad one. I call it the "Boppy Clown Syndrome". You know the kids air inflated toy that has sand in the bottom and you hit it and it goes one way, gets upright, then another way when you hit it again?

Thirteen years is a long investment into someone who you obviously love and care about. That doesn't mean you can't get frustrated or feel like driving away and never looking back. Because you can. What stands out to me is the love and compassion you have for him, despite the PTSD, mental issues, dementia etc. We all get compassion fatigue at some point. What may have been comfortable for years can suddenly turn into something else as we continue to evolve and grow as people. Only you know what your tolerance level is and from what I have read/witnessed/ you are One hell of a strong woman that sometimes just needs to be held and told everything will be ok. So I am here to tell you that things will work out as they are supposed to. You will know when the well runs dry. And you will find a solution for it just like you have when your fencing was down or a horse got loose.

You are an amazing woman with an amazing heart. Love and hugs to you always.

Wow, I can't believe all the media hoopla over this situation. I think it's ridiculous, all over political correctness this and that. The fact is, a whole lot of people oppose gay marriage, I've been a little torn by it myself, hey, it's not exactly tradition is it? Then I got to thinking, you know what, I actually don't care. Because in the end, it's between them and our Creator. If God approves of it, He does. If not, He doesn't. And since He's the one we all eventually answer to, let's let Him decide. I'm simply not going to concern myself with this sillyness anymore, because IMO it's a total waste of time. Just another media generated Three Ring Circus.

And this Davis lady who is unfortunately in the position that she has to confront it daily against her beliefs, she should just resign if she can't deal with it.

And then to top it all off, we now have the Pope being dragged into it with his meetings with this gay couple whoever, or this Davis woman whatever. Well I could give a rat's you-know-what about that too. Just one more Dog and Pony Show. What a disgrace for a country to be worrying themselves over such trivialities when there are much more important things to take to task. The religious zealots need to get over themselves, the gay activists need to get over themselves. They're behaving like spoiled, self-entitled brats, IMO. GROW UP, People!!!

But then I guess it would be asking for a miracle for the liberal media to focus on the real threats to our world and to our future, such as the Radical Muslim and Isis terrorists and all the other crazy evil nut jobs in the middle east that want to kill everyone. I guess that would be asking too damn much. Just one reason why I stopped watching and reading news for the most part, I can do without all of the nonsense spewed by what amounts to nothing more than a bunch of brainless idiot wack jobs masquerading as journalists. What a joke.

So, if this sounds like a rant, I guess it is. :gaah: BTW, it's not aimed at anyone here, it's at the whole ridiculous situation.

It's all pretty crazy. You think about what was important decades ago as far as "news" and what it is now.........it's either highly censored, totally irrelevant, or just mindless fluff.
Would news organizations give #281129 endless coverage 40 years ago? Nope. Bruce Jenner, Trump, Glen Beck, Kim Davis, Kanye West, or anyone else that really most people could give a rat's whatever about? Blah. If it bleeds it leads, if it incites people put it out there.
I'd have to say that Fox leads the procession of stupid, inaccurate, mindless drivel that does nothing but divide people. It's "entertainment", people yelling at each other, disregarding any form of common etiquette/respect, just a "glorified" Jerry Springer show.
I find a lot more thought provoking interaction with The Daily Show, Nightly Show, Last week Tonight, and even Real Time. And they're all comedy edged programs for the most part. I've starting looking at NPR along with the usual New York Times.
Trevor Noah did a real interesting comparison of Trump and the leaders of several African countries on Thursday, sure, it had that comedic edge, but at the same time, it was so spot on.
Main stream media, buffoonery at it's best.......that's about all I can say. JMO.

GGG, today is my son's 27th birthday too! If he is 27, that means I stopped aging a while ago I think. These past 3 weeks though have reminded me that life is a gift, no matter the sorrow or joy it brings, and I will take my "Sponge bob Fat Face" any day of the week. Well that is until I can bring the steroids down some. I really would like to have cheekbones again! LOL.

The wind is blowing like crazy up here in Delaware, but the rain has stopped. My DH is packing things up in our family room as the ELECTRICIAN is coming to put outlets in the floor, install pendant lights and put smaller LED high hats in the kitchen so I will be able to see. I hired people as I just couldn't do it all myself. Amazing as I write that, it seems like a weakness when in fact it is a strength.

I hope all of you are able to stay dry. So glad Joaquin decided to go East. We have a lot of tidal flooding and back bay flooding at the beaches, but it doesn't seem too disastrous for my friends with their beach houses. I have enough trouble keeping up with one house, I just can't imagine having 2.

Please forgive my ramblings as they are a combo of sleep deprivation, steroids and lack of oxygen. This whole time I have been yearning to return to my "normalcy" which is visiting you all daily. I am the luckiest person on the planet to have found such a wonderful, beautiful group of kind souls that are as selfless and sweet as you all.

I really appreciate you all sharing what you do and for all the prayers and JINGLES sent. They touched my soul in ways you will never know. Love to all. Xo
