She is not even Catholic and her beliefs' frown upon the Catholics because they do not believe like her church does (again, shame on her)! She is what we called 'Holy-Rollers' when I was a kid. Now that church would scare us. We would sneak under the windows of the church when they had their services and watch and listen...then run like the devil himself was after us! :giggle:

I think the biggest problem with "Organized Religion" is it's tax exempt status. Any nut job can claim a religious dogma and fleece it's congregation by what it espouses. How many of those religious leaders would keep doing what they're doing if Uncle Sam took his cut? How many organized religions would go belly up? How much of the congregation would show up for services at a vacant lot or open field?

My beautiful Sidebar Friends! I have finally had a chance to catch up on most of the posts this morning and how I have missed you all. The most prominent underlying feeling I got from all of them was the love, care, friendship and compassion amongst a group of people who genuinely care. I found These sentiments were actually more profound than the subject matter. How lucky are we to have found each other. Here.

Niner, first and foremost, I hope your husband continues to get the work up he needs. I did not say much after you presented his symptoms and reactions to meds as I had a gut feeling this was not a simple case. I hope they continue to figure out the "zebra" they need to find. "Zebra" is used when the answer is harder to find. I totally understand his "attitude" as I just saw it in me. Fear. No control. Fear. And I don't blame him one bit. The medical system is hard enough to maneuver when you know how it works. I just can't imagine your frustration..

Thanks Zuri! Yeah, frustration... :gaah: I too hope this doctor gives him a real diagnosis, so we can get on with this, and he can come home!

It's all pretty crazy. You think about what was important decades ago as far as "news" and what it is now.........it's either highly censored, totally irrelevant, or just mindless fluff.
Would news organizations give #281129 endless coverage 40 years ago? Nope. Bruce Jenner, Trump, Glen Beck, Kim Davis, Kanye West, or anyone else that really most people could give a rat's whatever about? Blah. If it bleeds it leads, if it incites people put it out there.
I'd have to say that Fox leads the procession of stupid, inaccurate, mindless drivel that does nothing but divide people. It's "entertainment", people yelling at each other, disregarding any form of common etiquette/respect, just a "glorified" Jerry Springer show.
I find a lot more thought provoking interaction with The Daily Show, Nightly Show, Last week Tonight, and even Real Time. And they're all comedy edged programs for the most part. I've starting looking at NPR along with the usual New York Times.
Trevor Noah did a real interesting comparison of Trump and the leaders of several African countries on Thursday, sure, it had that comedic edge, but at the same time, it was so spot on.
Main stream media, buffoonery at it's best.......that's about all I can say. JMO.

Quick update: rain, rain and more rain. It's sometimes light and sometimes not and I'm still not worried about flooding where I am. No power blips and for that I am content. It's supposed to get worse tonight and tomorrow so if I make no appearances for a long time, you'll know I can't.

No one can replace Jon Stewart. I think he will always stand apart from the late night hosts, for a myriad of reasons. He will never be duplicated, not in front of a camera or in real life. I have a lot of respect for him. I'd have a hard time saying that about most of the other ones. Dude has integrity. Stephen Colbert comes in 2nd, lol! He definitely "played" a character to Jon's persona and it was a good partnership, dueling entertainment news, back to back, and they brought attention to many issues with their scripted one-up-manship.

Trevor isn't Jon 2.0, but he does have an incredibly interesting background that I believe will bring a different perspective. I watched his semi-documentary "Daywalker" before he was a blip in the US, so to speak. When it was announced he would take over as host, I searched out anything out there on him and it was pretty amazing.

If either of the 2 "Amy's" or Chris Rock had accepted the job, I don't know if I would have been interested in watching any more. I just don't find them that interesting.

I'm watching Trevor get his sea legs before I make a decision on his ability, but I think he'll do a good job. JMO!!!!

Visit to the Huz this morning/afternoon - he is NOT a happy camper, but he is not giving any of the nurses a hard time - thank god! He says he can walk with his walker and wants to come home. He did pretty good with it when I was there, but had to stop/pause for a bit as he has no energy and his heart is weak. And the 5 units of blood he got didn't help at all, except make his face pinker. I took some clothes to him and found his stuff in another bureau they had in the room. So nothing was lost! I told him I wanted him to stay there until at least Monday when I bring in down for his appointment, and we'll see what the hematologist has to say about him going home. Whether the doctor thinks he's okay to come home. I'm pretty sure I can manage and I can always call the hospital, I believe, to get in-home care for him, as that is what they offered when he wanted to go straight home instead of the care center. We shall see!

I get most of my news from NPR and the New York Times, which, while they are MSM, I do not consider to be liberal media. Having worked at one of the nation's top newspapers for many years, I know that real reporters and journalists take their jobs and ethical responsibilities VERY seriously. Fox News, not so much. They as much as admit it, and do so unapologetically.

The big difference, in my mind, from 40 years ago to today, is that social media has become such a huge force to be reckoned with. You can't just ignore it. It is--almost by definition--uninformed, unedited and without the benefit of any kind of editorial oversight. To me, the confluence of SM and MSM is where we're winding up with this crazy stuff. But the MSM, while they do need to make their "numbers" to stay in business, would be woefully irresponsible were they to simply ignore the misinformation put out on SM, which so many (especially un- or under-educated) young people, blindly accept as fact.

I applaud the fact that real MSM journalists are now wearing two hats: reporting on the actual facts, while also confronting the misguided stuff that grows like weeds on SM. I know it makes their jobs a lot more difficult and requires a lot more time and effort on their part. I also appreciate sites like PolitiFact where they address things on an almost minute-by-minute basis.

And thank goodness for Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore, etc. Humor has always been a great social tool. It appeals to everyone's desire to laugh and feel good, so it can be inclusive while at the same time effectively shooting down hate-mongering and misinformation. In addition, it's a great way to advance innovative ideas & big picture thinking.

Apparently, that's how Scientology got started. L. Ron Hubbard had an idea about making money and didn't want to pay taxes. I haven't read it, but I understand (from interviews I've heard and read) that it's spelled out in Going Clear, written by Lawrence Wright. A documentary of the same name was released earlier this year and had very positive reviews.
