Sorry to hear of the auto theft.

Many years ago I had that happen and the feelings of violation were very upsetting.

Hopefully it was just random and hopefully you have no more problems from those same criminals. Lets hope LE catches them and charges them.

Maybe you can find out why LE is doing the crime scene thingy. If you call the right LE person you may be able to get more information about that.

In the old west days, they used to hang horse thieves. Isnt a car a metal horse with horse power?

Maybe not hanging but I do think LE and our laws need to make the penalty more severe for auto theft. Much more severe!

ETA I still get mad and feelings of violation about my car getting stolen all those years ago. It shows how this crime really affects people. I have done good to forget about it but when I get reminded like now then the feelings come back. Mainly feeling so violated. We all know how hard it is to purchase a good vehicle and when you are able to get one and pay on it for 5 or 6 years of monthly payments and then someone takes it in the blink of an eye. Its very traumatic.

Where's the rope and nearest tree for those who steal cars?

LOL! Yes, you totally feel violated and creepy! If they can steal your car and burn it for whatever reason...they could very well invade your home!!

When dh car was stolen out of driveway and you do feel violated. Dh walked down the driveway to put the trash carts out, said he walked past his car spot to the curb, and thought hmm somethings different, turned around and his car was gone. It was five in the morning! I had to get up and show them my ID and the title to his car. Dh pistol was gone, his big and small knives, and his best favorite hat from the closed Longhorn Ballroom. They found it two days later. It was a Cadillac Eldorado, and they slashed the leather seats, took the stereo and speakers, ran it into something ruining the wheel and tire on the drives side.

I know down here they ask 1) Was the car paid for, or could it of been repoed. 2) Did you leave the keys in it.

DH had a good friend when he worked at General Dynamics who grew tired of his new motorcycle and put it up for sale, and two men and a woman show up and wanted to test drive it. (At that point the other man and, "were going down the street to get a coke"), and dh friend said he couldn't let him just go off with the motorcycle, and that he wanted to hold onto the guy's drivers license. The guy him no I'll need my license in case I get stopped, but I'll give you something that's more important and gave him his parole card from when he got out of prison. Dh asked him how long he waited until he figured it out?
The guy rode it hard , and went to a Harley dealer, told them he wanted to trade in his bike and get a new one, which the salesman let the guy take it out for a ride. It was found in San Antonio two months later. Then nine months later DH friend got a letter from the Irving auto impound and was he going to pick it up. So he sold the motorcycle to dh for what it cost to get out of the impound, and I hated (I have a special place in my heart for the hate of a Harley Sportser and a 1970 El Camino that dh called baby) another motorcycle. He rode it a few times then sold it. Anyway, the point of the story was that that the guy didn't steal the motorcycle because dh friend handed the keys over to him.

and Good Afternoon all!

Had to bring the Huz to his cancer doctor appointment this morning. His red blood cell count is lower than it was at his last appointment... I asked the doctor about an another transfusion, but his hemagoblin isn't low enough for that procedure... I did get a medical letter and the Huz' diagnosis for the group called "Impact"; they will pay for his cancer treatments. Now I have to call the Human Services lady and "see" what she has done to get the Huz' other medications paid for. She is supposed to sign him up on Covered California (Obamacare) and enrollment ends tomorrow.
I could put in an application for the Huz for SSI (disability), but that would put our income bracket UP again, and we'll probably have to pay for MORE share-costs... You can't win!! :gaah:
so... hanging in there!

Niner, your party pics have really brought smiles and happy memories of childhood family parties we had.

(anyone else notice the rabbit ear antenna in Niner's pic? We had those.... and a funny whirly automatic one came later)

The party is Christmas! My sister lives in Sweden, so while my Mamma was alive she would go there for Christmas to celebrate with her and my brother.
Re rabbit ears! Remember this is Latvia, so there no digitial like we are here! LOL! Also, did you notice the cats and dogs on the shelf? My father was a small animal veterinarian. So my Mamma liked to collect those things for his office. When he was doing articial insemination for cows, she collected cows - I have those now! :D

Great way wake up this morning...someone stole our car last night (the Pontiac), set it on fire and left it! Hope they enjoyed the ride...grrrrrr Sitting it on fire makes me wonder what they were trying hide!!?? This doesn't happen around here We feel so violated...

Oh no! I had my Camaro stolen from my driveway in the middle of the night!

I had left it unlocked! when I usually lock it. The Cops came to our house about 2am, waking us up, and asked if I knew where my car was. I said yes, it's sitting in my driveway and walked out with them - but of course it wasn't there. They told me the caught 2 teens joy riding it; and they had broken the steering column to drive it! :gaah: well, my insurance fixed everything for me; and than about 2 years later someone stole the sun roofs off of it!! Went to the junk yard and got two more - in decent condition. I lock up my little Fiat EVERY TIME now! :)

At least you have other cars to drive. Sorry to hear they burned it...

I don't think this is correct. The 12/15 deadline is if you DON'T want to make changes. If you want to make changes, you actually have until 1/31/16 at the latest, but the changes won't take effect until March. Here is a link that explains it:

2nd BBM:

I did notice them and thought they were adorable. :)

OK, I need a Focus Group Consensus:

This past summer, a woman went missing in another country while on vacation. Her BFF got on a plane and went over to help find her as the local LE hadn't really done anything. She found her deceased unfortunately after 5 weeks of searching. This BFF took time off from her life and job and used her own resources while searching.

If you were this woman's family, would you reimburse the BFF?

If I had the money to do so then yes. If there is excess life insurance then yes. If I simply couldn't I wouldn't but the woman would be told why and I would show my gratitude as best I could.

I would absolutely gift whatever amount of money I could scrape together, even if it wasn't equal to full reimbursement. I wouldn't offer it, I would insist that she take it. I know she did it without expecting anything in return, but just imagine what it means for them to have "closure." Can't put a dollar amount on that. If she hadn't taken the extraordinary measures she did, who knows what the outcome would have been. Perhaps the case would have languished in limbo for decades...

That family owes her some measure of financial remuneration; but more than that, they owe her a debt of gratitude. JMO

Exactly. But......not sure what the situation is exactly, but adding that if this person chose for herself to searching, without being asked by the family or without consulting with the family, then IMO she doesn't have any right to expect reimbursement.

Her wonderfully generous choice to go act, but.. .her choice.

If the resources were available and it would not put undo hardship on anyone or other circumstances don't come into play, then it would be a very nice gesture.

What makes the question a little difficult is some things could come into play. For instance the family of the deceased may not have the funds OR the family of the deceased may have disconnected from the deceased person for many years OR maybe didn't even get along with the deceased family member for many years. So it does bring up some complexities that would make it dependent on the circumstances.

Volunteering random acts of kindness are always nice and usually they are done with no expectation of anything in return. If something is given to them as appreciation of the act of kindness then it is wonderful although the person may not even be willing to accept anything for their act of kindness.

I guess it all depends on the circumstances.

That was a big task of love that she had for her BFF, to give up so much to find her. Had the family done anything other than a call from the police or something? No active searches or anything to find her?

There is really no yes or no right or wrong. If someone took the time to find one of my loved ones, I'd own them forever, but not everyone will see it that way.

Perhaps because I recall this case, I feel compelled to point out that the question wasn't whether she should (or does) expect reimbursement. The question was whether or not the family should repay her.

We have all seen many cases where loved ones go missing and family members grapple with the unanswered questions for a very long time. Sometimes family members (usually parents) lose the will to live in the process. Even though in this case the outcome was grim, you can't put a price tag on the peace of mind that comes from knowing the truth. I think most people who have lived through the "not knowing" scenario, would gladly pay for someone to do what this friend did. JMO

1934 - The first streamlined locomotive, nicknamed the Commodore Vanderbilt, was introduced by the New York Central Railroad. The locomotive was quite impressive: 228 tons and 4,075 horsepower. The 'bathtub' shroud that gave the Commodore Vanderbilt its streamlined appearance was designed by the Case School of Science in Cleveland, Ohio. After an October 1945 collision with a truck at a grade crossing, all the streamlining was removed.

To help prevent auto theft I have started to use these devices religiously every time I park and even in my own driveway whenever I park my car. They are pretty cheap and even though crooks can get them off I think anything that slows them down is a plus.

The one I have is the yellow one that is shown as large picture. But make sure you take them off before trying to start your car. LOL

My Dad told me a story of when he tried to back out the driveway and still had the thing on. He had one that attached to the wheel and brake pedal and he couldn't brake the car. LOL He luckily thought to turn the key off to stop the engine before he hit anything.

Would knowing that the deceased was wealthy and the BFF is not affect your response?

Would knowing that the deceased was wealthy and the BFF is not affect your response?

If the deceased had a well-funded estate, I think it would be shameful if some of that wealth didn't trickle down to the friend who made it her mission to find her. JMO

Would knowing that the deceased's family went on another vacation while she was missing affect your response?

Also, the deceased had siblings of similar wealth.
