To all my Sidebar friends who are hurting today, and sprawled out in bed or a recliner in pjs......I am joining you. There is not a bone, muscle or joint in my body that isn't aching (brought on by my own stupid-self). HUGS to you all.

My dear friends, I need all the Prayers, Good Thoughts, Jingles coming my way! I was in the ER yesterday because I was having trouble breathing. My O2 stat rates were at 90. They pumped me full of steroids and antibodies. I am home now, but I am totally wiped out! A least I was not admitted and hoping I can keep it that way. On meds here at home. But so exhausted from not enough o2 :( love you all.

Prayers for you CoffeeJ.

Sincerely hope you get better and can get back to normal. Sounds really rough and scary.

For different reasons, I am in the same over-exhaustion boat. Let's have a coffee and PJ Day together .... with some naps tossed in.

I finally went to the vitamin store and got some CoQ10. I am a little afraid of taking it but heard good things about it so once I try it for a few weeks I will let us know if I notice a difference.

It made sense when I researched it. In a nutshell the articles I read said as we get older then our cells are not able to absorb nutrients because of fatty deposits in our blood stream. These kind of products like CoQ10 are supposed to help the cells be able to absorb our nutrients better. Thus giving more energy.

I hope it works with no side effects. Im a little scared of this stuff.

The more the merrier.... even if we don't do much talking. Bring a book and your favorite slippers, or you will have to wear my pink elephants.

I hope it works for you, Hatfield. I have given up on trying supplements and vitamins. Not a darned thing made me feel any better or worse. I sure hope someone is getting some benefit from all those products.

Maybe it is just because I am already so tired, but I am feeling more sad than usual over an event that happened here last night. In our county there was a small house fire and two bodies were found. Turns out to be a very well liked couple who have been through tremendous tragedies the past two years, one after another. The latest news update is a murder-suicide (I believe the dog, too). The wife was paralyzed after some surgery, an adult daughter nearly died from pneumonia, and later a daughter (same one?) did die in late 2014. I suspect the holiday season was especially rough on them this year. Their emotional pain was every bit as hard as the physical pains, yet they kept it from everyone. Just so very sad, and completely unexpected.

So sad to hear of the story. That is rough for them. wow. How sad.

For supplements I am kind of there with you that even though I have taken quite a few different vitamins I never really notice a whole lot. For the CoQ10 I have high hopes about it though because when I researched it everything made a lot of sense about how it helps.

I am curious if I notice anything in a few weeks with it. My other problem with any type of supplement is I am really bad about taking them regularly. I am going to give this product a try and see if it helps any.

Its real expensive which is a downside so I will have to see a noticeable difference to keep taking it.

Here is a link I found that summarizes CoQ10.

I am mainly interested in the claims that it is supposed to help our energy and mind. That would be nice. I sure need that. LOL

Howdy my sick friends, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling puny. I have a head cold and ear infection.

Hatfield, I've taken CQ10 with my lipitor (?) along with vitamin D, My doctors says good good when I tell him all I take. Both of these help with heart health.

Hatfield, you made me curious and after reading the linked page I went looking further. It does sound very beneficial. This page gives a lot of info, too, and even tells you what dose is recommended for different disorders. Please do be sure to update after you have taken it for awhile. I am quite interested in knowing more!

I really don't like swallowing those large tablets, which prevents me from taking most supplements. (I wish they would make elixirs, where you could custom-design what vitamins and minerals you want, and in what dosages -- omg! -- I think this could be a real money-making idea! Anyone want to go in on it with me?)

At any rate, I do notice a very real, positive impact when taking CoQ10 and B12. In fact (talking more to Spellie here) when I feel a bit faint and my energy is really low, B12 works wonders for me! I think, depending on your doctor, you can even get regular B12 injections. But first, try just taking the tablets and see if you perk up a bit. :)

Good to know you are improving, coffeeJ. I am doing better this morning, too. Now if I can keep myself from over-doing today I just may be able to enjoy the weekend.

GigiG, thanks for the tip on B12 tablets. Will look into getting some.

Sending  out to all who would like one, and jingles to all who need them. Enjoy your Friday!

This is a great idea. I want in. LOL

Seriously, this is a really good idea because of 2 reasons.
1-lots of people have trouble with the larger pills.
2-you could customize the supplements you need

It would be rather simple too to provide a custom order MIX KIT for people. Like let people order in powder form smaller bottles of all the different supplements they need. Then provide them a nice scale, a small measuring spoon, a mixing bottle, and then SMALL empty natural gelatin capsules OR a way to mix into a liquid form to drink.

The mixing kit would be the only thing we need to invent and then we could work with supplement providers directly for our supplement powders. Then we hire a few people and a small office and get a cheap billing system from Quiken. Then we........

Getting carried away....LOL

Seriously though I love this idea and we should have our business up and running in no time. Who is ready for our new job. We can even work from home and use FedEx to process orders for customers.

The Long Fall of Phoebe Jonchuck

The good father

"TAMPA — On the night Phoebe’s dad scooped her from her bed, the moon was high outside her window. The house was quiet. He carried her out the door, into the dark.
It was blustery and cold, especially for Florida. He didn’t zip her into a jacket or wrap her in a blanket. All the 5-year-old had on were shorts and her green cat T-shirt....
Then he went around to her door, opened it and bent inside. He lifted her out and carried her to the edge of the bridge.

Salt spray stung her skin. The wind whipped her bare legs. Her cheek rested on his sweatshirt as he cradled her against his chest.

Phoebe’s dad held her out over the guardrail, six stories above the black waves.

And let go...

That was a year ago, in the first minutes of Jan. 8, 2015.

John Nicholas Jonchuck Jr. , 26, is in a state mental institution. Psychiatrists say he is not fit to stand trial.

Phoebe’s father. A sporadically employed telemarketer, he had a history of arrests for DUI and domestic violence. Friends say he was a heavy drug user. His family says he was committed 27 times.

He must be crazy to have killed his own child. It’s the only thing that makes sense.."

Time to address the connection between mass shootings and mental health

"...The main debate in this case is whether Griego’s mental health issues are amenable for him to be set free after only a few years of treatment. While the severity of mental instability is unclear in this case, it brings to light a big problem that has been affecting the U.S. for quite some time: mental health.

There seems to be a ridiculously normal pattern of mental health issues among mass murderers in the U.S.

To name a few, Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza suffered from Asperger’s Syndrome. Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes had a history of unfinished psychiatry treatment and the former Tucson Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shooter Jared Loughner showed signs of schizophrenia.

When it comes to mass shootings, the topic usually brought into conversation is about gun regulations. However, no one ever addresses what drove these people to commit these crimes in the first place.

We have made it something very normal to just mark the shooting off as a mental instability incident and then move on with our lives.

The point isn’t to stereotype all people with mental health issues as mass murderers. Not every person with Asperger’s Syndrome or schizophrenia will go on a killing rampage and we all know that..."

Living Under the Sword of ISIS in Syria :(

"...Many Raqqa residents face an additional problem: keeping their sons from being sucked into the fighting. I’ve seen first hand that for Raqqa’s teenagers, the Islamic State’s ideology has zero appeal. What they want is its money and its guns.

Not counting bonuses, a fighter starts out earning about $200 a month — more than a family needs to live (a civilian like Saeed struggles to make $150). He gets additional money for wives, children, slaves and provisions, raising his potential monthly income to more than $500. If he applies for a house, the Islamic State will hand him the keys within two months.

These young men want to be listened to when they speak, and feared. These motives — “respect,” cash and guns — are turning ordinary young people into murderers...

The diversity of Syrian society has been destroyed, and minorities are persecuted. Virtually every day, people are whipped or executed in the streets, accused of violating Shariah law or of being spies...

The Islamic State gives people one choice: Escape your poverty by fighting for us..."

Got allergies? Blame the Neanderthals.

"...Based on one of the same genome mapping projects that helped prove how we’re related to Neanderthals in the first place, the studies found that three genes from Neanderthals and Denisovans are essential to our immune system — both when it’s at its best and when it’s acting up.

In other words, if you’ve ever battled an infection, you have your distant Neanderthal relatives to thank. But if you wrestle with allergies, that’s their fault too...

Our Neanderthal and Denisovan legacy is something called “innate immunity,” one of the researchers, Janet Kelso of the Max Planck Institute in Germany, told NPR.
“This is our very early immune response,” she said. “When the body detects that there is some foreign substance in the body, these are the guys that react immediately and it kind of calls in the big guns” to fight off the virus, bacteria or other pathogen..."

Why So Many People Are Reading This Old FBI Memo About UFOs
The most-viewed FBI file on UFOs is a one-page memo to J. Edgar Hoover about an investigation the agency never took up.

"Whether or not you believe in Earthly visitation by alien beings, it's undeniable that UFOs have, at the least, become an essential part of modern day folklore. And in a bevy of stories that have added on to that treasure trove of fantastic tales, there's one document that, according to Atlas Obscura, has become the most popular FBI file among UFO truthers.

The document is just called "Guy Hottel," named after an agent in an FBI field office. It's publicly available on the FBI Vault website, among a handful of other UFO and related cases. In one page, it describes an incident relayed second or third hand of a three separate but related UFO crashes around 1950 in New Mexico, with three alien bodies described as having a "human shape" but only being three feet tall, clothed in a metallic fabric. "Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots," Hottel said. The craft itself was described as being 50 feet in diameter. .."

Scientists Figured Out Where Aliens Might Be Hiding — And How We Could Talk to Them

"At the edges of our galaxy, tens of thousands of light-years away, massive, dense clusters of stars glom together like a humongous interstellar house party. This is where, according to astrophysicists from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, we might find intelligent alien life.

The CFA's lead author, Rosanne DiStefano made this hypothesis at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society on Wednesday, and — believe it or not — her logic checks out..."

Some of the Most Delicious Foods in the World Are Disappearing
How the loss of biodiversity affects what we eat—and why it’s dangerous.

"Embedded in every conversation about feeding people, conserving natural resources, and ensuring a healthy diet is the threat of the loss of agricultural biodiversity—the reduction of the diversity in everything that makes food and agriculture possible, from the microorganisms, plants, and animals we consume to the inputs and broad range of environmental, socio-economic, and cultural issues that inform what and how we eat. This shift is the direct result of our relationship with the world around us...

Globally, foods have become more alike and less diverse. As the amount of food around the world has shrunk to just a handful of crops, regional and local crops have become scarce or disappeared altogether. Wheat, rice, and corn, plus palm oil and soybeans, are what we all eat now—the same type and the same amount..."

Leading Harvard physicist has a radical new theory for why humans exist

"Where do we come from? There are many right answers to this question, and the one you get often depends on who you ask.

For example, an astrophysicist might say that the chemical components of our bodies were first forged in the nuclear fires of stars.

On the other hand, an evolutionary biologist might look at the similarities between our DNA and that of other primates' and conclude we evolved from apes.

Lisa Randall, a theoretical physicist at Harvard University, has a different, and novel answer, which she describes in her latest book, "Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs."..."

The deadliest outbreak in the history of the feared tropical virus wrecked the economies and health systems of the three worst-hit west African nations after it emerged in southern Guinea in December 2013...

UN chief Ban Ki-moon warned the region can expect sporadic cases in the coming year but added "we also expect the potential and frequency of those flare-ups to decrease over time"..."

This just breaks my heart, true love at its finest. Bless his heart!!!

CHILLICOTHE - For former Powerball million-dollar winner Charles "Tom" DeBord, the only numbers that really matter are 51, 7 and 11.

That's the 51 years, seven months and 11 days the Chillicothe resident spent married to his wife, Cheryl, the last few months of which the two had together after matching five Powerball numbers in late February of last year and claiming a $710,000 payout after taxes. As Powerball mania grips people from all over the country in pursuit of a record-breaking $1.5 billion top prize that was up for grabs in Wednesday night's drawing, DeBord serves as the embodiment of how money can't necessarily buy happiness.

He said he would trade his winnings in a heartbeat if it would have eliminated the cancer that ended his wife's life or stopped the heart attack that shortly afterward claimed his son, Bill. For Charles, a self-professed gambler, it's not about the money.

"I'm just a small-city boy," the 73-year-old said Wednesday while seated in the living room of his modest double-wide home with walls and shelves full of family photos. "Big homes don't mean (anything) to me. I don't need a big home. All I need is someplace to keep me warm and a nice, comfortable bed when I go to bed."

His idea of splurging with his lottery winnings? A black 2013 Hyundai that had 25,000 miles on it when he purchased it.

Having won a lottery prize of $60,000 once before when appearing on the show "Cash Explosion," he still vividly remembers the day he won at Powerball. The couple was just coming off of a gambling trip to Atlantic City during one of Cheryl's nine bouts with cancer. Cheryl was having a good morning and Charles fixed her breakfast before turning attention to preparing to use his nebulizer for treatment of his own health issues.

"Before I started doing it, I remembered that I had a Powerball ticket," he said. "I got it and took it into her and said, 'When you've got time, check these numbers, maybe we've got one or two.' I started doing my treatment, and she started hollering and screaming, and I shut the nebulizer off and said, 'What is wrong with you?' and she said, 'You won!' "

Initially thinking matching five numbers would only net a prize of $100 or $150, Charles agreed to head to the nearby Corner Market to try and find out what they had actually won. While asking the store clerk, a nearby customer grabbed a lottery pamphlet and was the first to tell Charles he was a millionaire — at least, before taxes. Cheryl took the news with a smile and started calling close friends and the couple's three sons, many of whom also expressed disbelief.

The two didn't have any grand plans for the money, at least for themselves.

"As soon as we knew we won it, we decided we're going to help the kids out," he said. "We're in our 70s, we didn't owe anybody anything, so we didn't need the money."

The joy of having won it was short-lived, however. Charles' bride of more than a half century, whom he met on a blind date when he was a senior and she was a sophomore in high school, lost her final battle with cancer July 29. Just a few days later, his son, Bill, was bending over to grab a screwdriver while hooking up a stereo when he keeled over and died of a heart attack — a broken heart, Charles says, because his son was so attached to his mother.

While it's obvious the pain still lingers, with emotion welling up as he speaks of his lost loved ones, Charles is finding ways to move on. He is staying true to the promise to help his other two sons and their families meet their financial needs as they arise; he can be found several days each week at middle and high school sporting events his youngest family members are playing in; and, yes, he still plays the lottery. He had eight possible chances at the $1.5 billion grand prize Wednesday night.

For whomever does take home the record-breaking amount, whenever it is won, he offers a simple piece of advice from the perspective that life — and death — has provided.

"Just stay the same way you are," he said.

What a wonderful story (altho' very sad :tears: )
