Thanks for this - but my Huz' prostate cancer has metastized to his bones... But I'll send this article to him anyway - I haven't read it though.

:tyou:
Oh Niner,
You and Huz are in my thoughts and prayers. My dad's cancer did same thing.
Sending you HUGS.

I just sent my husband out to buy Powerball Tickets. And yes, I take care of my friends :D.

The dog test said I was a labradoodle which had "chill" in the description. I am the LEAST chill person I know, more like Type AAA. However, I love the labradoodle company I keep! And the puggles too.

I will post more about Knox and the amazing developments that are unfolding daily. I have to compose myself first.

Please know that all the posts, messages, calls, emails have meant the world to me. You all have no idea how much you touch my heart. Xo

Hope you don't mind my asking - is he still alive? My Huz' tests showed that it had metasized to 20 to 30% in his bones...

I'm hoping your husband is still here with us!

Zuri,

So glad to have you back, dear friend. Please give yourself all the time that you need. :)

I saw this quote today and thought of you:

“Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.”

Hi Niner, I certainly do not mind your asking. It was my dad. He died in 1985. I will be honest and tell you that he suffered. However there have been huge medical advances in the past 30 years.
Sending you love.

  • #607
Can you take a picture of it? LOL would really like seeing it :)

I can try but I think its in the attic. When I get a chance, I will see if I can hunt it down and get a pic of it.

Good to see you here tonight, Zuri. I am excitedly waiting for the new developments you will be sharing. I suspect your Knox has become a medical marvel. More hugs and special thoughts are coming your way.

I saw that paper bag floor the other day somewhere and saved it. I would love to try it one day .... maybe in a small room or a closet floor. It intrigued me a lot.

Chelly, so sorry about your dad. I agree, there have been a lot of advances since then. Hoping they are going to make a difference for Niner's hubby.

A "cardboard" end table? I hope you are able to get a pic for us. Very interesting concept.

I know now there were so many more posts I had hoped to reply to from today, but alas my brain is as drained as my body. Been in super slow mode the past few days.... even trying to think feels like a huge effort. sigh .... but it will pass in a few days, thank goodness.

Se y'all later.

Microsoft Abandons 'Windows 8', Upgrade Now Or Be Cut Off Like Windows XP

"Today is the last day. If you’re still using Windows 8 then it is time to upgrade because from 13 January 2016 Microsoft MSFT +0.00% will no longer release security patches for the new operating system. Any holes hackers find will be left unpatched and the operating system is now fundamentally insecure. It is time to upgrade – and quickly.

To be fair to surprised Windows 8 users, Microsoft has warned about this for some time, though confusion is understandable because its official lifecycle page states ‘Windows 8’ will still receive ‘Mainstream Support’ (new features) until 9 January 2018 and ‘Extended Support’ (security patches) until 10 January 2023. It even puts this in a clear table:..."

Microsoft Warns Windows 7 Has Serious Problems

"...Speaking to Windows Weekly, Microsoft Marketing chief Chris Capossela explained that users who choose Windows 7 do so “at your own risk, at your own peril” and he revealed Microsoft has concerns about its future software and hardware compatibility, security and more...

There’s only one problem with Capossela’s statements: they are complete rubbish.

Windows 7 is no less secure than Windows 10 (it will be supported until 2020) and no less compatible with new hardware and software. In fact its far greater market share means it is developers’ priority and has greater compatibility with legacy programmes and peripherals...

Microsoft has been cranking up the pressure on Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade and, in my opinion, the ‘balance’ was replaced by ‘threat’ a long time ago due to mandatory Windows 10 downloads, automatic upgrade attempts and now Capossela’s claims which add up to nothing more than deliberate misinformation designed to unsettle users...."

Last chance to upgrade IE or switch browsers as Microsoft's mandate looms

"Nearly 340 million people who run Microsoft's Internet Explorer have just a week to upgrade or switch browsers, or face a shutoff of the security patch spigot.

On Jan. 12, Microsoft will serve up the final security updates for all instances of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and IE8 and for most of the copies of IE9 and IE10 now on customers' PCs.

That's the deadline Microsoft set a year and a half ago, when it unexpectedly announced that most users would have to be running IE11 by that date. After Jan. 12, Microsoft will support IE9 only on the rarely used Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, and IE10 only on Windows Server 2012. Everyone else must be running IE11 or Edge to continue to receive security updates and technical support..."

Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 next Tuesday

"Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 next week on January 12th, releasing a final patch encouraging users to upgrade to one of the company's more recent browsers. The end of support means that these older versions of Internet Explorer will no longer receive security updates or technical support, making anyone who uses them much more vulnerable to hackers. A recently-announced patch will deliver the last few bug fixes, as well as an "End of Life" notification telling users to upgrade to IE 11 or Microsoft Edge — the company's successor to Internet Explorer, built for Windows 10..."

Massive Windows 10 Success Has Six Nasty Surprises

"Sometimes showing off has a way of coming back to bite you. In an understandably celebratory post Microsoft MSFT -3.77% has revealed Windows 10 is now active on over 200 million devices (including Xbox One upgrades and Windows 10 Mobile smartphones). Then it made a series of boasts which exposed something rather shocking…

In an attempt to illustrate just how much Windows 10 users love the new operating system, Microsoft rolled out stat after stat about growing adoption and momentum (Black Friday and Christmas play their part here). But then things got weird:

...Microsoft is tracking exactly how long every single user is using Windows 10. Then things got ever weirder as Mehdi announced: “Here are a few fun facts on what people have been doing on Windows 10”...

Yes, Microsoft admitted it not only logs its users time on Windows 10 but also their time using Microsoft Edge… and gaming… and streaming games… and counting your search queries… and every single time a user opens a photo..."

WOW That is depressing

I cant believe I am using a brand new machine that is less than 1 year old and they are telling my my Windows 8.1 is no good soon.

Well I am going to take my chances and keep running it. I luckily turned off all auto updates right after I opened the box. I am relying on NORTON to save me from any threats.

I used the same method on my old VISTA machine and never had a Virus EVER thank goodness. KNOCK ON WOOD

I do practice cautious web using which helps too. I don't click on anything I don't want to and I delete lots of SPAM mail.

I am getting closer and closer to going with APPLE as my next machine. And I may even consider LINUX operating system.

Microsoft has really turned me off the way they are forcing people to do things.

The first taste of this I had on this new machine was when I needed OUTLOOK. Thank goodness I saved my OLD Outlook CD 2003 VERSION. LOL
Worked like a charm somehow.

Hatfield, please don't take offense to my post about your doctor visit. If you read it with the lecturing mother tone from when you were a teen, it makes more sense that way. It was tongue in cheek. And the cookies were delicious. Thank you. I have the rest of your money. :)

Powerball's big bait and switch

"The likelihood of someone winning the estimated $1.5 billion jackpot in the Powerball lottery on Wednesday is very slim.

And that's not just because the odds of winning are 292 million to one.

It's because the jackpot is actually $930 million (before taxes) if the winner decides to take a lump sum payment. And almost all winners opt for the lump sum.

Lotteries always advertise the larger amount, presumably to avoid confusion. But the jackpot would really only be $1.5 billion if the winner opts for a 29-year payout..."

I always get a kick out of the news media when they say things like this. Just the other day I think on GMA the guy was saying "over 1/3 or more will go to taxes".

I'm like....."that's fine for me. Ill even give them 60% if I can just win this one".

You would still get 900 MILLION!!!! Who cares about the stinking taxes when you win that much. Just let us WIN. LOL :)

Spellbound, I hope you feel better soon. I think you are an amazing, beautiful, kind and caring person, not to mention thoughtful and I know the pain you are in. You serve as an inspiration to me daily as you never exude self pity.

Pinterest has a lot of those paper bag floors on its site. I figured I would just soak myself in stain and roll around the floor. Do you think it would look as good? Let alone clever? Think of all the games we could play! What body part/fat roll is that from?

Cancer affects so many wonderful people. I think VP Biden taking on cures for cancer is noble, but not profitable for the drug companies. Who have a HUGE lobby presence. Who rake in tons of money from chemo drugs. I often wonder if they are truly invested in finding a cure. I hope so.

ETA: I am heavily sedated on happy meds. Please excuse. Glad the drug companies at least made those.

Hatfield! How lovely your doctor was to lower the cost. It is such a shame that the doctors are forced to bill the insurance companies what they have to in order to be paid something on the dollar billed.

Can you imagine selling Girl Scout cookies for $5 a box and my telling you, no, I am only going to pay you half? After I had eaten the whole box? Because I thought that $2.50 was more reasonable? Hello?

Sorry. I just see how hard my DH works and all that is involved in primary care. The insurance companies are unregulated so guess who ends up picking up the tab...

Hello Zuri

Great to have you back posting. Take all the time you need.

I don't understand insurance all that well so I probably should not even be commenting on it much. All I know is I pay my premiums on time and they are always trying to deny services and deny charges. X is not covered or Y is not covered, etc. etc.
I suppose the doctors deal with that sort of thing too and maybe why they have to charge more than what they would charge me that day.

Where I really get burned is in Auto Insurance or Homeowner Insurance. I have had some really bad experiences with them. I pay and pay each month and then it seems in the few rare instances when I actually needed to file a claim for something they always reduced the claim down to almost nothing or so low that the deductible was not even met.

No offense taken at all. I don't really know enough about how it all works so I am sure doctors are not the problem as much as the insurance companies.

The insurance companies drive me crazy. LOL

No easy "fix" for the rising costs of healthcare industry. If there was an easy "fix" it would have been done a long time ago.

Medical Insurance Reimbursement is so ridiculously complicated. I am so used to the hassles and hearing the complaints from my husband, I am quick to respond lol. He has to employ 2 people just to handle insurance billing for him and his partner. If you ever have a problem or question with the medical insurance stuff, please let me know. Happy to help sort anything out if you need it. The system works us and we are MORE than happy to do so in kind. Xo

ETA: The Medicare/Medicaid Network servers are so overloaded, one of the girls submits them electronically between 11 pm and 3 am. That is ridiculous.

I so hope one of us wins the PowerBall. If anyone was going to do good things with the money, it would be one of us.
