Microsoft Abandons 'Windows 8', Upgrade Now Or Be Cut Off Like Windows XP
"Today is the last day. If youre still using Windows 8 then it is time to upgrade because from 13 January 2016 Microsoft MSFT +0.00% will no longer release security patches for the new operating system. Any holes hackers find will be left unpatched and the operating system is now fundamentally insecure. It is time to upgrade and quickly.
To be fair to surprised Windows 8 users, Microsoft has warned about this for some time, though confusion is understandable because its official lifecycle page states Windows 8 will still receive Mainstream Support (new features) until 9 January 2018 and Extended Support (security patches) until 10 January 2023. It even puts this in a clear table:..."

Microsoft Warns Windows 7 Has Serious Problems
"...Speaking to Windows Weekly, Microsoft Marketing chief Chris Capossela explained that users who choose Windows 7 do so at your own risk, at your own peril and he revealed Microsoft has concerns about its future software and hardware compatibility, security and more...
Theres only one problem with Caposselas statements: they are complete rubbish.
Windows 7 is no less secure than Windows 10 (it will be supported until 2020) and no less compatible with new hardware and software. In fact its far greater market share means it is developers priority and has greater compatibility with legacy programmes and peripherals...
Microsoft has been cranking up the pressure on Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade and, in my opinion, the balance was replaced by threat a long time ago due to mandatory Windows 10 downloads, automatic upgrade attempts and now Caposselas claims which add up to nothing more than deliberate misinformation designed to unsettle users...."

Last chance to upgrade IE or switch browsers as Microsoft's mandate looms
"Nearly 340 million people who run Microsoft's Internet Explorer have just a week to upgrade or switch browsers, or face a shutoff of the security patch spigot.
On Jan. 12, Microsoft will serve up the final security updates for all instances of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and IE8 and for most of the copies of IE9 and IE10 now on customers' PCs.
That's the deadline Microsoft set a year and a half ago, when it unexpectedly announced that most users would have to be running IE11 by that date. After Jan. 12, Microsoft will support IE9 only on the rarely used Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, and IE10 only on Windows Server 2012. Everyone else must be running IE11 or Edge to continue to receive security updates and technical support..."

Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 next Tuesday
"Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 next week on January 12th, releasing a final patch encouraging users to upgrade to one of the company's more recent browsers. The end of support means that these older versions of Internet Explorer will no longer receive security updates or technical support, making anyone who uses them much more vulnerable to hackers. A recently-announced patch will deliver the last few bug fixes, as well as an "End of Life" notification telling users to upgrade to IE 11 or Microsoft Edge the company's successor to Internet Explorer, built for Windows 10..."

Massive Windows 10 Success Has Six Nasty Surprises
"Sometimes showing off has a way of coming back to bite you. In an understandably celebratory post Microsoft MSFT -3.77% has revealed Windows 10 is now active on over 200 million devices (including Xbox One upgrades and Windows 10 Mobile smartphones). Then it made a series of boasts which exposed something rather shocking
In an attempt to illustrate just how much Windows 10 users love the new operating system, Microsoft rolled out stat after stat about growing adoption and momentum (Black Friday and Christmas play their part here). But then things got weird:
...Microsoft is tracking exactly how long every single user is using Windows 10. Then things got ever weirder as Mehdi announced: Here are a few fun facts on what people have been doing on Windows 10...
Yes, Microsoft admitted it not only logs its users time on Windows 10 but also their time using Microsoft Edge
and gaming
and streaming games
and counting your search queries
and every single time a user opens a photo..."
