All --

Unfortunately, Zuri had to put Knox down tonight. Sadly, it was also his 11th birthday.

She is heartbroken beyond belief. She wishes to thank everyone for all the jingles sent her way on behalf of Knox and her ordeals with trying to maintain a good life for him.

Knox was a remarkable horse, beautiful in every regard. And he was very much beloved. Zuri spared nothing in giving him the life that he deserved. She was meant to be his, and he was meant to be hers.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she attempts to manage this painful first chapter of her grief.

GigiG, thank you for the notice and your lovely post in the face of such sadness. You said it all so very well.

To our lovely Zuri, I will worry a bit about you, as I know such a traumatic event can set off your health issues, too. Please try to remember to take care of yourself while going through this sad time. You were a tremendously good owner, and Knox was given every chance possible for a long and happy life. Not too many would have been able or willing to do all you managed. May your happier memories of Knox carry your through the coming days.

Complaints filed against prosecutor in Jodi Arias case

"PHOENIX — As the Jodi Arias-obsessed public awaits his tell-all book about the case, prosecutor Juan Martinez is the subject of two new complaints to the State Bar of Arizona, the semi-governmental agency that licenses and polices attorneys.

They are the fourth and fifth Bar complaints against Martinez in the last year. The first three, filed in 2015 after the Arias sentencing trial ended in a hung jury, pertained to that case and already have been dismissed.

The fourth complaint, filed by unknown parties, concerns Martinez' book and remains under investigation.

So does the most recent, filed Dec. 22 by the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, an association of nearly 500 defense attorneys. The complaint spans at least 10 years of Martinez' career and as many of the cases he tried..."

Prosecutors: Rachelle Bond Took $1,400 In State Aid After Bella’s Death

"BOSTON (CBS/AP) — The mother of the 2-year-old once known as Baby Doe allegedly received state aid for her daughter, months after the child’s murder, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Rachelle Bond is charged with being an accessory after the fact to her daughter’s killing. A larceny charge was added against her for allegedly continuing to accept $1,400 in public assistance after she knew the little girl was dead.

Bond pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston after a grand jury indicted her in the case.

The child was known only as Baby Doe after her body washed up on Deer Island in June. She was later identified as Bella Bond.."

Connecticut’s Second-Chance Society

"...Last February, Mr. Malloy announced his “Second Chance Society” initiative, which is aimed at reducing the number of people going into prison and making it easier for those already in to get out and have a chance at a law-abiding life.

The reform plan reclassified simple drug possession from a felony to a misdemeanor and eliminated mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug possession. It expedited parole hearings for people convicted of nonviolent crimes and simplified the pardon process. The state Legislature approved the package in June with bipartisan support. It also passed a bill Mr. Malloy had pushed to increase police accountability by providing all troopers with body cameras, recruiting more minority officers, and assigning independent investigators to cases where the police use deadly force..."

No winner of record Powerball jackpot, next draw put at $1.3 billion

"No one won Saturday's record jackpot of nearly $950 million in the multi-state Powerball lottery, officials said, driving the haul for a winning ticket in the next draw to $1.3 billion, lottery officials said.

Millions of Americans anxiously checked their tickets for the winning combination of six numbers - 32, 16, 19, 57, 34 with a Powerball number of 13.

"No Powerball jackpot winner," the Texas Lottery announced on Twitter hours after the numbers were drawn.

"Since nobody won tonight’s staggering $947.8 million jackpot, it has rolled to an estimated $1.3 billion for January 13," said a statement from officials in California, one of the 44 states, together with Washington D.C. and two U.S. territories, that participate in Powerball..."

What Makes a Good Life? (with video)

"... what if we could watch entire lives as they unfold through time? What if we could study people from the time that they were teenagers all the way into old age to see what really keeps people happy and healthy?

We did that. The Harvard Study of Adult Development may be the longest study of adult life that's ever been done. For 75 years, we've tracked the lives of 724 men, year after year, asking about their work, their home lives, their health, and of course asking all along the way without knowing how their life storieswere going to turn out.
Studies like this are exceedingly rare...

Since 1938, we've tracked the lives of two groups of men. The first group started in the study when they were sophomores at Harvard College. They all finished college during World War II, and then most went off to serve in the war. And the second group that we've followed was a group of boys from Boston's poorest neighborhoods, boys who were chosen for the study specifically because they were from some of the most troubled and disadvantaged families in the Boston of the 1930s. Most lived in tenements, many without hot and cold running water...

Once we had followed our men all the way into their 80s, we wanted to look back at them at midlife and to see if we could predict who was going to grow into a happy, healthy octogenarian and who wasn't..."

56 Years Of Barbie’s Evolution

"Since the release of the iconic Barbie doll in 1959, however, it has changed quite a bit, changing along with the ideals that society set for women. Tumblr user Tenaflyviper collected headshots of barbies from every year since 1959 and combined them in collages so we can watch them evolve..."

10 Timeframes
clock-smiley.gif

"...You know that decades are a recent invention? Decades are hardly a century old. Not the concept of having ten years of course, but the concept of the decade as a sort of major cultural unit, like when I say “the 90s” and you think of flannel shirts and grunge music and great R&B music, or when I say “the 80s” and you think of people with big hair using floppy disks. You need a lot of change for a decade to be a meaningful demarcation. Back in the 1600s they didn’t really talk about centuries as much either. It was all about the life of the king, the reign (of King James and so forth), or the era.

And then they invent clocks and clocks get cheaper and cheaper. Clocks are an amazing experience, right? Two hands, and a bell. This sense of relentless forward motion and they go in only one direction. Imagine doing user testing on clocks.

You say, “You’re a farmer—tell me about a normal day.”

And the farmer says, “Normally I wake up then depending on the month I might plant or reap the harvest.”

And you say, “How do you know what to plant?”

And the farmer says, “I’ve got this poem that we’ve been using for generations, so like, in June I mow my corn, in August I harvest my wheat with a sickle, stuff like that.”

And you’re trying to build understanding, you say, “That poem sounds really useful. But I’d like to talk about a new approach to time. What if I could divide every single day into 24 big parts called hours, and each of those into 60 little parts called minutes? So now instead of having just a whole day, you have 1,440 little pieces of time and you can arrange them and do whatever you want. What is your reaction to that?”

And I think the farmer would probably be polite but I’m guessing he’d be thinking, “Clock? That’s the single stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”..."

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice; but for those who love, time is not.

I had a 1959 Blonde haired Barbie - with the swim suit as above in the picture. One of my sisters had the brown/black haired one - 1959. I sold them all for $4,000 a few years back - with all the clothes that we had for them.
And I too had a Ken with the fuzzy hair! :giggle:

Really nice seeing you post YESorNO!

Zuri,

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope this helps as you grieve for Knox. :rose:

The Rainbow Bridge for Horses

By the edge of a woods,
at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow
where time stands still.

Where the friends of man
and woman do run,
when their time on earth
is over and done.

For here, between
this world and the next,
Is a place where beloved
creatures find rest.

On this golden land,
they wait and they play,
Til The Rainbow Bridge
they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer,
in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole,
their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored,
their health renewed.
Their bodies have healed
with strength imbued.

They trot through the grass
without even a care,
Til one day they whinny
and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward,
eyes sharp and alert.
Then all of a sudden,
one breaks from the herd.

For just at that second,
there's no room for remorse.
As they see each other...
one person...one horse.

So they run to each other,
these friends from long past
The time of their parting
is over at last.

The sadness they felt
while they were apart
Has turned to joy
once more in each heart.

They nuzzle with a love
that will last forever.
And then, side-by-side,
they cross over...together.

That's such a nice poem CA.

I was just thinking of Zuri and her grief tonight. :crying:

Life can seem so unfair- to have what we love taken from us, but I know this is part of living- why does it have to be so heartbreaking (I hate it sometimes :sigh: ).

I thought of this music tonight- it's so sad (just like I feel). It's from one of my favorite movies, The Red Violin.

There really is a red violin, made by Antonio Stradivari in 1720, and now owned by violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn.

This is an article about the movie:

The red violin: a spooky story

In the movie, violinist Joshua Bell plays the haunting soundtrack music.

Anyway- I have rambled on and I only meant to say how I'm full of sorrow tonight for our Zuri and her Knox. :(

I have been MIA the last few days, and missed Zuri having to make that choice. I know she was looking at a little filly and it would be nice if she had any of Knox's "essences" to make a son or daughter of Knox.

I'm making pasta in the pot for dinner tomorrow night. Make a good spicy meat sauce then layer cooked pasta (I've used medium shells penne rigate, rotini or elbows) sour cream and provolone cheese, and meat sauce for three layers , top with mozzarella, and bake for thirty minutes then let set fifteen. Add a big salad of lettuce, cucumbers, red and green bell peppers, radishes and purple onions, and fresh garlic bread, with Italian cream cake and ice tea... mmm mmm good.

Dear Zuri , I am so sorry to hear about Knox. He is romping in the fields tonight , no pain no suffering. I wish you thoughts of Knox and your memories. We cry and wish to se.e them one more time , we will one day. Take care of yourself . Don't get sick again please
your Knox would not want that. Horses are very intelligent animals, also very loving. I wish I could make you feel better Sweetie, all I can do is tell you we love you , want you well. I know it hurts so bad been there with my two Cockers. held them in my arms when they passed just as I did my children. I believe "children" can have four legs as far as our hearts go. :rose: :prayer:
