Thank you Darling Vivian! He really is a peach.

So cool to find out that is George's son.

I can't even imagine what he was feeling, playing on that stage with all the music greats, rocking to his father's song!

As for Tom Waits, Mr. Mertz is a big fan whereas I can hear a song here or there but honestly couldn't listen to a whole album of his in one shot. I like quirky voices, but more in line with this (doing another double dose for you):

Leon Russell - 06 Delta Lady - YouTube

Delta Lady - Joe Cocker - YouTube

If I had known you had a thing for Mr. Hayes, I would have earmarked that song for you! But how's this - hopefully it will satisfy both of your requirements:

Isaac Hayes - Walk On By - YouTube

Dionne Warwick - Walk On By - YouTube

Very nice, never heard the IH version.

So usually a musician's personal/professional life doesn't affect me much. I just enjoy the music for what it is.

In the case of Isaac, I always loved his music (hey, its Shaft, John Shaft, does it get any better?) but I adored him more for being the voice of Chef on South Park.

In the case of Dionne, I first heard her when she sang Burt Bacharach songs and really liked her voice. [Aside, I used to love his albums when I was a kid.]
Just a few years ago I saw her on Celebrity Apprentice and she was such a d*ck I now can't stand her and it has affected my appreciation for her music.

Those are great, Vivian!

I love Leon Russell, I was just listening to Will o the Wisp the other night -- KatieCL would appreciate that, hisses, pops and all appreciated on the actual LP. And his Wedding Album.

We saw him at Tipitinas in New Orleans maybe 10 years ago. He frickin' *rocked* that place, nonstop for hours.

Mr. Chester (must him find a good name for WS, I wish I was creative with names like Vivian) just walked in my office and said "What radio station is that, it is great!"

Hee!

Okay Chester, I can't believe you're saying this because I often feel the same way (oddly, I pick and choose; though Woody Allen behaved horribly I am still a major fan of everything he's done).

Now you know I love Celebrity Apprentice and I saw Madame Dionne behave like a fool, but I was not surprised... long story short, she ripped off a friend big time who was putting together a benefit concert. Don't want to say more except that she's pretty shifty. I really hesitated before I posted her song!

I found it! Waits' ""ice cream man" his voice before Bourbon and Smokes! Lol....check it out Viv--youll like this one I think! (Very um...innuendo laden though :blushing:

Wow, that is great, segue.

If people only knew what a great songwriter he is. Most would be astonished at how many of their favorite songs by other musicians were actually written by Tom Waits.

Here, thank you google, I have found an article dedicated to just this subject!
http://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/features/tom-waits-cover-songs.html

Examples:
Long Way Home, Nora Jones

Downtown Train, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Patty Smyth

Jersey Girl, Bruce Springsteen

Ol' 55, Eagles

Down There By the Train, Johnny Cash

Hometown Girl, Mary Chapin Carpenter

Crossing Jordan, Lucinda Williams

This search has also led me to a Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa cover of Chocolate Jesus!

Hey that's a good idea - maybe Tricia can devote one night of her radio show to our various DJ efforts!

I wish I could take credit for "Mr. Mertz" but our dear Sleuth came up with it - maybe he can christen Mr. Chester as well!

Ask your guy if he has any songs he'd like to contribute - Mr. M. comes up with them all the time.

Lol. Guess I'm weird, I had neighbors request it once they heard me play it.

Waits used to just do stand up. That is not my fave song, I like the older music. He did a great job acting in "Dracula".

He was also great in "Down By Law". A Jim Jarmusch movie, with a yet-unknown Roberto Benigni.

I know we are innundating this thread with Tom Waits right now, but I must just post one more before I forget. He did a cover of "Sea of Love" that is fantastic, IMO.

We played this at our wedding reception and needless to say, it freaked everyone out. Most thought there was something wrong with the sound system.

Hee!

Thank you Chester.

Agree, I feel we are posting a lot of Waits, but no one else is Waits, but, no one else is posting!

Love it Lil Buddy! :)

(We are down to 4 of us here, ironic heh? Lol.)

Thanks dear segue - I DID like it, especially the Van Halen version.

Mr. M. will have a veritable Tom Waits orgy tonight, thanks to you all!
