“Florida’s public-record law needs to bow to a defendant’s right to a fair trial,” he said. “Some woman sitting behind her computer with nine cats knows more about the case than anybody. What you end up with is a dog and pony show, and people want to march in the parade. I think it is severely perverting[thwarting] justice.”
JB's quote above - the only thing better would have been if he had said the red inserted above.
What he really means is us cat bloggers are thwarting his version of the truth which would enable him and swampmom to profit off the death of a beautiful child. TFB
BBM: That statement says it all.
I find it to be very sad indeed that our justice system is not about justice at all. It is in fact a legal system--a system based on laws that thwart justice on many levels.
Our justice system allows for this: Evidence is collected and processed. A perp is arrested and charged. The perp either chooses an attorney or is provided legal representation.
Our legal system allows for this: Motions are filed and granted to suppress evidence. Stories are fabricated to imply (if not outright state) that the perp is really the victim in the matter. The true victim is in most cases forgotten altogether and in some cases blamed as the antagonist. This is in no way just. Yet it is perfectly legal.
The American justice system is ineffective in that it has virtually no power after the arraignment. That is when the American legal system takes over, and once that happens the circus begins. Everything is likely to turn into a huge mess of lies, deceit, politicking. There is no justice involved anymore. The whole process has become about winning at all costs.
I think about Caylee often. I hear her sweet voice singing, "You are my sunshine..." and I wonder how it is that her life meant and continues to mean nothing to her family as well as those who defended and continue to defend her killer. How did it come to be that "bloggers" cared and continue to care more about this sweet child than those who are supposed to love and cherish her?
How is it that anyone in this nation can defend and embrace a legal system that not only allows but encourages antics that deny justice to innocent victims? Our justice system, which is supposed to be the voice of these victims, is in most cases legally cut off at the knees. I am all for civil rights, but somewhere along the way the rights of the victim were forced to take a back seat to the rights of the accused. It was never meant to come to this! Our forefathers must be turning over in their graves.
There are many things about our nation that I am proud of. Our legal system is
not one of them.
