Sinkholes...

Your not nuts for considering sink holes. But I don't think they do anything with theories or ideas calls. Only actual sightings.

A sink hole is like someone dug a whole in your yard and didn't fill it in. It would save time in digging the hole. But the top is stillopen. Unless someone tossed dirt over the body. If it's a fast moving hole, the body might be swallowed quickly. But a slow one, The body could very much still be exposed.

Being near the hole is dangrous. Cause it might have a small opening, but be a big area below. Standing on the edge might cause the edge to fall in.

Anything is possible. But in order for anyone to build on land with sinkholes, there is a lot of reinforcement needed in the hole, so I'd be worried (if I were her) that engineers would find the remains. Also, I don't think sinkholes are safe to go into, so if she tossed the remains in, they might not be adequately camouflaged, and she'd be stuck with no other options. At least that's what goes through my mind.

That's what went through my mind too--your thought about engineers and mine about scientists getting down in there and discovering the remains. Has to do with the drinking water too--the aquifer, and testing with dyes, etc.

Many sinkholes are covered over in plant debris as well and filled up.

We have such sinkholes and aquifers where I live now.

P.S. I don't think Casey is the type to be that interested in the natural world and know about such geological features as to have explored the various areas. She pretty much confined her outings to nightclubs and some superficial visits to parks in the area.

I've learned so much about FL being here on Websleuths. It is so incredibly rich with natural beauty.

I had forgotten about her search for sinkholes! I think you may be on to something! Look at how many are in Orange County! I think that is a very real possibility that Caylee may be in one of them.

Wow! Where have I been. I did not know Casey's computer turned up a search for sinkholes. That would be a red flag jumping in your face.
It always amazes me what I learn from you able sleuthers here.

I bet detectives reading er computer seachers got an eye full of clues!!!

It is quite interesting that sinkholes appear to be something that Casey researched on her computer. (My statement is based only on conjecture and not fact, since, after reading how StumbleUpon works, it is possible that this term randomly appeared as a searched term.)

Does anyone know if any of the 100 or so TES trained searchers who live in the area might also own a cadaver dog?

I would think that with a cross-reference database of the cell phone pings and a map of the local sinkholes, a searcher with a cadaver dog could make short work of checking out those areas. A cadaver dog would be able to quickly rule out any and all of the sinkholes, without animal or human searchers ever having to traverse into each of the sinkholes.

This sinkhole concept might be something that the searchers might be interested in hearing.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me (as Im still playing "catch up" with all the facts that arent in regular media coverage)....

Did she do a SPECIFIC search for sinkholes on her computer? On the form of Google, Yahoo etc.

OR

is the only sinkhole info the website that we see in her Stumbleupon account?

Thanks!

I guess that's what I'm wondering too. If she did a specific search that's one thing. But if the only reference is on the StumbleUpon site, then I don't think that's much to go on since she would have come across it completely randomly.

I don't think there is evidence of a search, just that some website recommended a site about sink holes (probably based on past similar searches).

StumbleUpon gives members a guided tour of the internet. Using Firefox and Internet Explorer integrated toolbars, StumbleUpon brings personally relevant websites, videos and photos to members, displaying that content directly in their browser. Since sinkholes are now being discussed on the Cocoamoms Church Theory thread, I thought I would bring this back up (I had originally PM'd Cocoamom on it) and here is what I sent her:

Do you remember early on, when the discussions where on the site's that KC had bookmarked (I can't remember the toolbar she used) she had marked a site about sinkholes and about a book called "the lovely bones", I actually bought the book and read it, and it's about a girl who is killed and disposed of in a sinkhole and is never found.

Cocoamom provided me with this link, and I'm at work and can't download the file.

http://www.dep.state.fl.us/geology/g...e_database.htm

The book is pretty out there about how someone get's away with murder by disposing of a body in a sinkhole.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks of this?

(be nice to me, it's the first time I've started a thread here.)

Now you have me curious....I have this book around the house somewhere because my daughter read it for a college literature course. I'm going to have to find it and read it now!

i read that book many years ago. it's a really good book.

i put this 2-and-2 together very early on when wefound those things out and it is very interesting, but hasn't helped.

the sinkholes casey was researching were in foreighn countries. But they would give the same generic info probably, to sinkholes here.
(sorry baby trying to help type)

I couldn't put it down, needless to say my DD thought I had lost it after she read it.

Warning...grab the kleenex and forget your duties before you start reading this book, it is so sad , it is almost impossible to set it down , I have the book to. I doubt they ever find little Caylee , Florida has too many ponds , sink holes and gaters . I cant' see lazy Casey digging any holes deeper than a few inches so I doubt that she buried her .

They are making Loving Bones into a movie. Incredibly sad book. Interesting about the connection to Casey....

Very good book, and I could definitely see a sinkhole as a good hiding spot for a body, especially a tiny one. :(

Hi everyone, go to the link for the database and download the excel file if you have Excel on your computer. It lists sinkholes by County, long/lat, etc. Just how many ARE in her ping area? I don't think THAT many...

Some say "unknown" reporter or location but the lat/long is there. I am guessing that the Dept. of Transportation ones are ones that affected road travel...how's that for a start? LOL

Somebody wanna map these? At least the East Orlando ones? Don't forget the one on N. Goldenrod! Where is that?

Some sinkholes are huge, some are small. Some are dry and some have some water in them. Others are full of water (from the ground water table or an underground spring) and are now lakes with parks and stuff. Mostly depends on how long they have been there.

Can we figure out which ones are fairly new? If I were looking to put a body in one, I would find a pretty new one, dispose of body and wait for water to fill it. Lots of water has receeded now though so a new hole might still be close to dry...worth a look?
