Authorities responding to the reported discovery of possible human bones at a mid-Michigan home say they’ve found human remains.

Lansing police say officers responded Monday to the home. Investigators were seen working in the home’s backyard.

A Michigan State University Forensic Anthropology team, a Michigan State Police human remains analyst and the medical examiner’s office verified the discovery of human remains.

Police on Tuesday morning didn’t immediately release information about a possible identity of the remains. An autopsy was planned and the investigation is ongoing.

Human remains belong to missing Lansing mother and child, 5, police say

LANSING — The human remains found in the backyard of a south Lansing home have been identified as those of a mother and son who have been missing since June of last year, police said.

Danielle Steiner, 34, and her 5-year-old son, Aubrey Hall, had not been seen since Steiner took Aubrey out of school in early June 2018 and disappeared, according to court records.

Their bodies were discovered at a vacant house in the 800 block of Loa Street on Monday.

Their deaths are being treated as a homicide investigation. No arrests have been made, police said Friday.

Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski said the case is “complex” and stressed how limited the information he could share is.

A little more information here, for example:
"What was the relationship between father, mother and son like?

Steiner, Aubrey and Aubrey's father, Anthony Hall, lived together from the time Aubrey was born in 2012 through February 2018. At various times, Steiner and Aubrey lived in the 700 and 800 block of Loa Street, Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski said.

The remains of Steiner and her son were found outside a vacant home on that block.

Hall filed a request for a custody hearing in May 2018, and was granted custody in late June after Steiner did not come to a custody hearing June 26."
