I've thought that from the VERY beginning! I think that's why he wouldn't allow Susan to use the computer. However, since the WVC PD didn't get to the hard drive soon enough, JP had the opportunity to erase the evidence.

One thing this reminds me of--a few years back I was reading an article on how police track down kiddy porn makers. They would often advertise in places like photography magazines and family oriented magazines (this was before Craigslist). They would use key words and phrases that people in that lifestyle would recognize. An ad aimed at someone with kids who wants to allow them to be photographed would read something like:

"Wanted: Little girls for family fun photography. If you are into photography fun for adults and children, contact me. We'll get together for some relaxed hobby sharing...."

The cops would spot the ads right away and set up a sting.

Looking at Josh's silly site and his "hobbies" just sort of reminded me of that story.

Interesting timing of the decision by Susan's family to have her called Susan Cox Powell. If there are two foundations, one using Cox in the name and the other not using it - people could get confused as to who they are donating to.

As much as I believe JP is guilty I am glad that they had to take the posters down. I am certain that would upset the children seeing their Mom's picture all over. They have enough going on without someone adding more.

Not if you use ERASER and set it to wipe each byte 200 times! It rewrites every file and changes all the names. It's a freeware program: http://download.cnet.com/Eraser/3000-2092_4-10231814.html

If you just send the files to the recycle bin then empty it, the files are all still on your hard drive and will remain there as available to be written over but until another file rewrites the bytes, they are still retrievable. In fact, there are freeware programs you can download to restore deleted files.

As much as I believe JP is guilty I am glad that they had to take the posters down. I am certain that would upset the children seeing their Mom's picture all over. They have enough going on without someone adding more.

I disagree with you on that. Elizabeth Smart's fliers were everywhere for a very long time, and she had younger siblings who had to see them. I think they were helpful for the family (including the children) to know that people did not stop thinking about Elizabeth.

I can't imagine what it must have felt like for the children to be told that their mommy was "lost", and then they moved away. I would think children would be concern about how is their mommy going to find them in the new home.

I don't think it is normal for children to not speak about a missing/dead relative. They need to feel safe in expressing their feelings openly. Pretending as if she didn't exist doesn't help the children.

I think the fliers and ribbons in WA were tastefully done.

There is so much I don't know.

You were RIGHT though. The common person does not realize their files can be retrieved by law enforcement after the recycle bin has been emptied. This is how a lot of people get in trouble! This is why, in many spousal murder cases, you'll hear the computer disappeared or there was a bran new hard drive! People think the only way to protect themself is to totally destroy the hard drive. Yes, this is the best way. However, if you know what you are doing, you can get rid of any photos or documents permanently on your computer that nobody can ever retrieve.

That freeware program Eraser has it's own recycle bin and if you select it when deleting your files, you can set it so it wipes the deleted files right then and there as many times as you want to set it to so you can rest assured everything you delete is GONE and not lurking around in your hard drive!

Imo if they were told the truth (mommy disappeared or is missing) and if JP is innocent, then the flyers would be a comfort to them, not upsetting to them. If there is truth to Charly's really being upset by seeing the posters, it could be due to him possibly having heard or seen what happened to her, God forbid! If JP has nothing to hide then the flyers would not be upsetting to the boys, lest he's been lying to them. jmo

Didn't law enforecement already have a search warrant by the time Josh returned home? Can't imagine why they would've left the computer behind in the initial search. Seems a 'standard' thing to confiscate nowadays when any crime has been committed or the residence is suspect in any other way.

It was posted in response to someone--Wastala--who was banned from the SL Trib site. She posted at KOMO on a story, and a person who lives a few blocks from Josh and spoke with him at a nearby park where their children were playing posted the reply in quotes above.

I am formulating a theory that involves Steven Powell, his boys, sexual abuse, and Susan finding out about it. Anyone else get that hinky feeling?

Yikes! That never entered my mind, but unfortunately nowadays, nothings off limits it seems. Pretty creepy. I was so busy with other angles of the case I failed to see the possible red flags in him denying her use of the home computer. WOW!!

Something else just ocurred to me. I wonder if SP and JP had got the boys to some kind of level of mom being discussed as little as possible; that they found some kind of answer that passified them finally at some point. The boys seeing the flyers may have triggered them to start asking more questions again, thus SP's anger and request to have the flyers removed. Having two little ones close to the ages of her boys, I've found at times its trying when the same questions are asked over and over and over again, even if they've been answered.

Lawd I hope SP isn't putting hot red pepper on those boys' tongues for asking questions about mommy. I remember when the Cox's were on Dr Phil, they said when they saw the boys, that the boys didn't want to leave. But I also try to not put much weight into that. Not many kids want to go when its time to leave gramma and grampa's house.

I specifically asked Kiirsi to ask Josh and her husband, John, if they knew Dan Massey and neither of them know who he is. Kiirsi said her husband John was in the computer club as well.

Who reported Josh and his brothers taking pictures of other people's children at the playground? That is a bit creepy, especially since Josh doesn't appear to be a hobbyist photographer, judging by the pictures on his new Susan Powell web page.

I will take pictures of anyone and everyone when I'm out and about and particularly enjoy taking photos of children. However, I ASK first and get the parent's e-mail addresses so I can send them the photos. That's a bit different than taking random photos of kids, especially when you have the reputation Josh and his brother have! One would think they'd try to keep a low profile. Perhaps they were taking photos to post on their website to prove Charlie and Bradon aren't being "held hostage" in the Powell Compound!
