SoCal fires continue thread 2

Seems like the wind may have finally started to break. What'll be interesting here is that apparently the mayor and such have been fussing about paying firefighters overtime and such. I think they'll have a hard time selling their image of the greedy firefighter, when they work so hard, and even have to let their own homes burn, while saving ours.

The big fight right now is why did LA county get the big guns and San Diego and OC had to wait? The Modjeska-Santiago fire could have been extinguished fairly quickly with the right equipment, but now it will take at least 2 weeks and it may enter the National forest.
The devastation is clearly in SD county but they did not get the resources that LA county did.
I am just reporting the politics that are coming out, I have no idea what the truth is.

Not to mention that every firefighter who walks into that is risking their own lives and limbs in order to protect someone else's property.

In an effort to make room for more civilians who have had to evacuate their homes, sailors stationed in Southern California are abandoning their barracks.

"Orders have been given to all sailors ashore in barracks to move to shipboard billeting to provide room for evacuees," said a Tuesday statement released by the U.S. military.

Only essential personnel are requested to report to duty at Naval Base San Diego, Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, and Naval Air Station in El Centro.

Those bases have also set up cots and tents for evacuees.

Also, the Navy has offered an Aegis cruiser, a guided missile destroyer, and two fast frigates to support evacuation efforts.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon designated March Air Reserve Base as the primary staging area for medical and relief supplies coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, McHale said.

And some 100 California National Guard medical personnel are helping alleviate "critical staffing shortfalls" at the San Diego Veterans Center, whose hospital staff are under voluntary and mandatory evacuation orders.


The fires are also having a direct effect on military personnel -- McHale said 1,400 Navy personnel and their families have been forced to evacuate, and Camp Pendleton ordered 3,000 Marines to evacuate because of the fire, the Pentagon announced Tuesday evening.

Just yesterday I sent a whole lot of pregnant clothes to these gal's at Camp Pendelton. These poor mother's are are completelly ignored by the government.................. and really need some help.
Does anyone find that disgusting!

Sounds like something you could successully promote L_M, and now is a good time; we want to help the soldiers in any way we can; get the newspapers to pick up on it, and do a little article.

Great question. It is controlled chaos right now.
Just like Katrina we knew this day could come. All the makings for a devastating fire storm have been brewing for a long time. We have a high fire season but fires like this can happen any time and we all know it. Bottom line we were not well enough prepared. Makes me really wonder what will happen if we have the "big one" .

ETA: Not to say that a lot of people didn't do a lot of things right..because they did.

The two Bulldozers working a ridge of fire are making me tear........
They are going back and forth along a fire line. Risking their lives, fire along side of them. It could in an instant jump that ridge and
come right at them..........
Between the water from above and their great work........

These aren't the kind of fires you jump into Trino. They would need to bring the firetrucks, It's a matter of trying to save a home at a time. When the Santa Ana winds are pushing a fire you don't want to be in the way. If the winds continue to die down, the fires can be dealt with.

No but I should start thinking about a plan. The fact is it would have to get all the way through the backhills of San Clemente to get to me and that is still a long way.
