When I heard Bush was going to SD today, the first thought that came to mind was "I bet the disaster efforts stop just like in every other one he's visited". And sure enough it did! Amazing, he's gotten slammed for it every time and he keeps shutting things down.

I just find this unbelievable! I'm sure Bush isn't the first president to value a photo op over real recovery, but why doesn't he know better? Why doesn't somebody tell him?

FEMA is there and will help out with clean/sanitize expenses as well as possible reimbursement for hotels/lodging costs during evactuations...if you have ash or heavy smoke in you house or embedded in your clothing/furnishings..call the FEMA Hotline or register thru their website (www.fema.gov) and apply for assistance. People don't realize that there is help for all residents affected, not only the unforturnate who may have lost everything.

It's worth a toll-free call to FEMA and a few minutes of your time![/QUOTE]

WOW! I did not know that. I will call them. As far as I can tell, there are no masks available anywhere and the recommendation is that a mask should be warn while cleaning up the ash. I would at least like a mask.

Thank you, KayCeeBee

I think before 911, the air traffic surrounding a presidents visit wasn't an issue. Now it is and a visit shuts everything down. And I remember hearing in the past during prior presidencies that they wouldn't appear at certain events because it would be too disruptive. Can you imagine a wall of fire moving towards your home and hearing the planes are grounded because of Bush's visit?

I'm not defending Bush but would say this if it were any sitting President. They are damned if they do,damned if they don't. If you recall,he did not go to New Orleans for precisely the reason you are citing, getting in the way taking time away from rescue and recovery, and he was blasted for that.
Any President is in a lose/lose situation in this case. If people like them then they did the right thing,if people don't like them, they are in the wrong.
Frankly I think its more hassle than its worth, but for everyone with my opinion,I'm sure there are those out there who feel he needed to be there.

I've thought of saying this but decided not to. But you are 100% correct.

He did go to Katrina and everthing was halted for his visit.

So we can't talk about how the government effects the fires?

WHAT????

Priorities, priorities.

I agree Martha. I wish he'd have stayed home and let the planes fly to fight the fires! He could have been driven through some fire areas.

I"m suprised he didn't do a repeat of his parachute out of the sky gig!

Martha, my baby Grace arrived this morning. Beautiful little girl and everything's perfect.

Thank You!:woohoo:

The air out here in the Inland Empire is so horrible. I mean it's bad enough when there isn't a fire. Now you don't even go outside, you can't breath. Thank goodness, the wind has finally calmed down. It smells horrible as well.

You're quite welcome! I know many people figure they aren't eligible for assistance as they didn't suffer major damages in disasters, they usally find out they could have appied for some type of assistance AFTER the deadline has passed! During times of disaster I think any assistance would be helpful and it's free to apply and takes minutes to do so!

They're not talking about the fire in PP thread! LOL We are.

Yes, it is important that the President be there but he could have easily been driven around a few of the neighborhoods where house's burned to the ground or had his photo taken with someone at Qualcom Stadium, or a family who had completely LOST their home.

Judy Garland refused to attend her daughter Liza Minnelli's first opening night on Broadway because, she explained to Minnelli, the resulting hoopla would detract from her daughter's moment. Garland was a famously neurotic actress who probably suffered from bi-polar disorder. If SHE had better judgment, why can't Bush?
