17 people was killed in a targeted mass shooting in a remote village in Eastern Cape region at two homesteads. The victims were relatives and neighbours, preparing to attend a traditional mourning ceremony for a mother and daughter who had been murdered a year ago. 15 women and two men were killed, ana an 18th victim is in a critical condition in hospital.
