I don't think this was an arranged marriage. However, I do understand that his parents/family were really pushing it.

Over on the News24.com comments, someone said that maybe his parents thought that a marriage would "cure" their son of his sexual orientation.

There may be truth to that.

My first husband was a pathological liar. When I finally realized that the first thing I did was throw him out The second thing I did was march right over to his parents and say, "Why didn't you tell me that nothing he ever told me was true (military service, university, etc.)?! They said, "Well, you seemed like such a nice girl. We were hoping you could straighten him out." I couldn't believe my ears!!

Now, you might be thinking, "But, CM, how could you possibly have missed all the signs?" There WEREN'T any signs! He had fabricated letters, service medals, diploma's, honorable discharge papers - everything!!

It was a complete NIGHTMARE!!

So, yes, things like this do happen.

Omg how could not catch that before marriage. Did u not do any basic fact checking

Good points, the puzzle is that it was reported some time back that Dewani was previously engaged but broke it off abruptly when he met Anni. Just found this report that his previous engagement was broken up because of sexual difficulties, suggestions he was impotent, or he didn't want to have sex with her. Not sure how reliable this paper is though.

Rani Kansagra, 26, was engaged to Dewani shortly before he met his wife-to-be, Anni Hindocha, and is said to have told South African police that they broke up because of the Bristol businessman's sexual problems.

Rani Kansagra, who lives in her parents' mansion in Middlesex, has repeatedly refused to talk publicly about her relationship with Dewani.

The PT couldn't ask for a better witness than this IMO. The fact that SD said he was bisexual at the beginning of the trial will really mean absolutely nothing if the DT can't produce a single woman prepared to testify that she's had sex with him. If all the PT's evidence proves he was constantly have intimate relations with men over a period of years, I can't see a not guilty verdict. I have to wait until SD's cross-examined before making a well-informed decision, but at the moment it's not looking at all good for him.

Very interesting. I thought it was said that Dewani's phone was taken during the hold up. Did he come with a spare? If he did and the time of this photo is verified it would be very damning.

Were the contacts with gay websites made after Anni's murder made by phone or via a computer and was he back in the UK at the time? I know he left SA quite quickly after the murder but have missed exactly when.

EDIT

I have just read that the hotel lent him a phone and he left on the Tuesday following Anni's murder.

As this was captured on CCTV, they'll know precisely when the call was made and telephone records will reveal who he was talking to. I can't believe he'd be smiling if he was talking to anyone in either his family, her family or friends within hours of Anni's death. This photo could be his downfall.

This made me think it HAD to be another hookup- he could not be having a happy conversation with anyone who was a friend or family at that point.

I read his ex fiancee was a wealthy heiress with a family in Britain, and that she was becoming concerned about his impotence. I think that made him readjust his sights- he saw someone who was of lower status and had less powerful and supportive family connections in Britain. Easier for him to keep his wild life if he doesn't have a powerful local family to answer to.

BTW, thanks for posting the tweets despite your technical difficulties. Much appreciated!

Her family own Spice Jet, the second largest domestic airline in India, and they're now flying to some international destinations. With the middle class growing very rapidly in India, they must be extremely wealthy, not to mention powerful. No wonder he ended the relationship.

Interesting that the CCTV is shown on the panorama prog and his smiling is described merely as evidence of his 'shifting emotions' after AD's death.

Also sad to see video of the two talking and laughing prior to the murder being suggested as evidence that SD can't have been planning to murder her. So naive!

And why SAPS handed over all their evidence to panorama I've no idea. Unbelievable!

I believe you should be extremely cautious about what you see and hear in the Panorama video.

"On Panorama, Jeremy Vine did not mention any of these positive references that murder suspect Shrien Dewani made to Tongo.

Tongo was then arrested. Having confessed his role in the fake carjacking and murder, Tongo received seven years off his sentence in a plea bargain but was still jailed for eighteen long years. He also lost his job. He said Dewani paid him to organise the murder and his testimony is supported with phone records, text message, CCTV footage, money movements and multiple other witnesses.

Suddenly, the Dewani propaganda machine and lawyer change their stance on Tongo. Tongo goes from being a nice, likeable, trustworthy guy to being called a “liar”. Note that they did not primarily label him a murderer who killed Anni, but a liar".

This is an extremely interesting article.

I think he's guilty. The money behind the seat nails it for me.

No disrespect to the world's taxi drivers but, seriously...who would pick up an unlicensed cab at the airport and then, a day later, hand over £900 in advance to arrange an excursion?? Dewani is wealthy....the concierge at the hotel would do this for him, secretly if it was meant to be a surprise. Hand it over to someone you don't know with no connection to the hotel and, frankly, you risk never seeing your money again.

Plus...why would Anni want to see a dangerous part of the city at night? And what would she see anyway? The lights in houses? It's hardly the New York skyline.

if this had been a carjacking, why did they leave the car? And why kill Anni but leave Shrien alive to identify the hijackers?

No. Whole thing makes no sense. But I shall wait and see what the defence have up their sleeves. Better be good.

But, whatever happened, let's hope Anni gets the justice that was denied Reeva.

I have not stumbled across whether or not there was life insurance. Does anyone recall whether he benefitted from that?

Just reading through the article you linked to, Judgejudi and it makes a really, really good point (well, lots but this stood out to me)....if Dewani was frantically handing over cash and rings to the hijackers, why not give them the money behind the passenger seat?

I find it very odd that someone of Dewani's financial standing would hand over cash to a taxi driver for a helicopter trip. Especially since there are many professional operators in S.A. doing these sort of trips and depending how long one would wish to spend in the air many offer such trips much cheaper. I have been to S.A. many times and true taxi drivers will approach you offering their services but most people ignore such offers especially a millionaire. This going to seedy areas after dark and changing money in dodgy areas is a definite no-no!
