excellent.....that's exactly what I was getting at!!!

it must be a long flight from UK to South Africa especially if you have SD as your travel companion -- she could have looked tired and possibly even older LOL after her arrival at the airport

AND

most importantly she may have '''crimped'''' her hair or had it in an updo .... lots of ways a fashionable young lady could have looked completely different MOO

IIRC they had already been on a safari for a few days so she might have been very casual without makeup and then she gets dressed up with makeup and looks completely different. But sometimes when you have learnt later it was his wife all along, you can then mistakenly refer to her as his wife as you know better later.

I wondered if he wants us to think that he would not have agreed arranged hit men to kill the woman if he had known it was Dewani's wife?

I think the dollar thing was deliberate with Dewani, a clumsy attempt to divert any future police attention away from himself, if the killers were caught? Why would a Brit be carrying dollars around, he could have told them.

  • #1,104
So why has he introduced the fact that he did not know that the second woman was Dewani's wife and wants to call her his business partner?

What is the motive?

Dewani could have had dollars left over from the trip to India or Tongo has mistaken pounds for dollars. I often do that when travelling from one country to the next eg. I call the notes dollars but I should say eruos, etc.

I am guessing that VZ just wants to ''show'' the court that the testimony can't be trusted because Tongo was confused about the identity of the victim etc.

However, there does not seem to be a motive for him to lie about these things. I was predicting that he might have said that he was nervous when he gave his statement.

VZ: Mr. Dewani will tell the court that he withdrew 7000 Pounds in cash. That was his "holiday money".

VZ: He changed some at OR Tambo and @VandAWaterfront . He will say he doesn't know where the Dollars come from.

oh gee...........LAS VEGAS the scene of the batchelor party he was bragging about with the helicopter ride too??? that would be my guess LOL -- MOO

I suppose there could be a drawback to defence making the witness appear too stupid and unreliable to get his story straight - because it then leaves the question, however could he have manged to completely fabricate re Dewani's involvement? Especially as it's corroborated by bits of cctv and phone evidence that Tongo would have to have worked out, in advance that police would find.

Francois van Zyl - Dewani's advocate.

Not as I pictured him, I thought he was much younger. Court attenders say VZ often says, 'Are you serious?' when Tongo answers, lol.

Yep. He wants to present himself as the contract killing arranger with a heart. It's just unbelievable but it seems to be true.

What a twisted sense of 'morality'.

VZ's not a bit like I imagined. Appears to be a very kindly-looking gentleman. Like Nel.

But not Roux. Roux always looked owlish and Oldwage downright glum (though now we know he probably had good reason, since Oscar Pistorius couldn't afford to pay him).

2nd guessing my own impressions I can't help but wonder IF SD hadn't stiffed him if Tongo would have waited a few more days to go to the police

Yes, VZ does look kindly. I've got a soft spot for Gerrie Nel. :)

Yep, SD is THAT cheap, horrid man. Imo, Dewani knew he would have the upper hand with these men doing the hit. Dewani did his research, imo.

I'm not following this closely, but I'm disturbed by the attitude of the judge towards the sexual implications.

Did the prosecution not explain to her the fundamental difference between a man who is gay and a man who is bisexual?
That a bisexual man is attracted to women and a gay man is not?
And further, that a gay man may even find women repugnant sexually?

It's simple enough!

And she has refused to hear relevant testimony from Mr Leisser because she hasn't grasped that sexual orientation is what the motive may turn upon?
I despair. :shakehead:

Oh yes most definitely, very disappointing. She won't even hear it first then make a decision, she knocked it on the head from the get go. If she found it not relevant she could wipe it from the record, but it is relevant. imo

Now the case heavily relies on Tongo, who's all over the shop. I'm trying to work out these mistakes he's making.
